We had a very disappointing experience at Hollis Seafood in Spearsville. We reserved a room for my grandmother's 90th birthday with 25 guests, and were told we'd have the space for 1-1.5 hours. When we arrived, no room was reserved. Staff said it was a "miscommunication." We were required to pay upfront, and during payment one of our family members was rudely asked if they were "sure they were with the Barnes family" because of "how people were looking." Completely unprofessional. The staff pushed tables together so most of us could sit nearby, but when 2 family members arrived 40 minutes later, they were told they couldn't sit with us because "our time was almost up." Less than an hour into our meal, staff asked us to leave--even though we had not finished eating. Another large African American group had the same experience. When I questioned the manager, she said large parties only get one hour, but admitted this information is not posted anywhere. We left feeling disrespected and singled out. We paid full price but were rushed and treated poorly. What should have been a joyful 90th birthday celebration turned into one of the worst restaurant experiences we've ever had. read more

Best seafood buffet ever. This place is a converted convenience store with the cutest little knick knacks. It is adorable with friendly people, great service and the biggest buffet ever. Every kind of shrimp- fried, boiled, etouffe, fried and grilled fish, oysters. Add ribs, about five vegetables, homemade French fries. If this doesn't get your mouth watering, let me tell you about the desserts and rolls. Homemade cinnamon rolls, the best apple dumplings, peach cobbler and soft serve ice cream. They even offer a sugar free option. Thursday is senior night. It may seem a bit far, but the value is worth the trip. I have to limit my trips to two or three a year or I would weigh 500 lbs. The restaurant is pretty large. They have 3 buffet lines. one with all types of shrimp, fish and chicken, grilled, fried, and boiled. The next one is a salad bar and the other is a dessert bar, with and ice cream machine next to it. The food is really decent, may want to add a little salt or pepper to some of the dishes but overall I was impressed. It is an older crowd but most people are so sweet here and will either smile you down or glance and finish their meals. read more

We went on a Friday night. They were already pretty busy, and more were coming. We waited in line for a few minutes while other patrons were paying. It didn't take long. We were directed where to go and eat. They have quite a few different rooms, so they are able to accommodate a large number of people. They have a HUGE buffet of seafood that they are continually refilling so, for the most part, the food was really fresh and hot. I tried the fried shrimp and catfish. They were very good. There was also a salad bar and dessert bar. I had seen people raving about their desserts, so I saved room for that. I saw specific mention of the cinnamon rolls. I figured why not give one a try. Uh...dude...seriously....this was the BEST cinnamon roll I have ever had! The entire roll was soft like the inside and the icing wasn't like most being too sugary. It has to have some type of cream cheese icing that was the absolute bomb!! I finished one, and made a grand attempt at a second, though I was sore I could not finish it and had to leave it there. The prices aren't cheap, but the food is very good. My only wish is that you could just go for the desserts! You MUST try the cinnamon rolls!! If you happen to make a trip to the area, it's absolutely worth a diversion trip just to go there! read more

So one Saturday night, pre-Covid19 pandemic, we traveled all the way to Spearsville, LA for a seafood buffet. We were NOT disappointed. Huge, delicious buffet full of seafood, chicken and vegetables of every kind. Boiled shrimp, fried shrimp, catfish fillet, whole catfish, frog legs, stuffed crab, gumbo, chicken tenders and the best french fries I have ever had. A salad bar and a huge dessert bar. Peach dumpling. Yes you need one. It's a bit of a drive but so worth it. Not to mention the cute gift stuff up front. We will definitely be back. read more

Ate here on a Thursday evening the place was packed and it's not small by any means, we added crab legs for an extra $10 to the buffet price of $13 . The buffet has many choices of sides and various meats plus salad bar and a hand ful of dessert items . I had fried shrimp, whole catfish and a salad everything was fresh well seasoned and delicious . They brought the crab legs to the table which were two huge clusters perfectly cooked and well seasoned . After that tried the banana pudding that you could clearly tell was homemade and soft serve ice cream. Total bill for two less than $50 . We will definitely go back the next time we're in the area and would recommend if your in the mood for seafood this place will not disappoint! read more

I had Sunday lunch here for the first time, and to say it was wonderful is an understatement! The catfish were some of the best I've ever had. Even though the offerings are fewer on Sundays (when they are open 11;30 - 2:00 CT) than other days/times, there was still a generous choice of items, and every one of them delicious and perfectly prepared. I dare say no one leaves here anything but stuffed!. The hushpuppies were great (that is something that has more often been less desirable at MOST of the places I've eaten in the area), the rolls were to die for, the desserts (especially the cinnamon rolls melt in our mouth. My choice over Cinnabon any day! Honesty I didn't get to taste of everything because there just wasn't room, and that was frustrating. Everything I had was delicious, and I just wanted to keep eating more catfish. If you're within 100 miles of the area and getting hungry, I'd definitely recommend you reset the GPS to visit Hollis Seafood. You won't regret it. read more

It's hard to find a buffet of any kind these days It almost impossible to find a really good buffet. The impossible happened today! We had heard of this place from several people but just haven't made the hour long drive there. My wife's birthday is today and she wanted to try it out. It is in the middle of NOWHERE!!!! We got there at 4:45 (15 minutes after they opened) and the parking lot was packed. The outside just looks like another metal building housing some type of business. When you go in the front door all that changes. A really cute area awaits as do two cashiers. You pay as you enter. The line to pay moved quickly and in no time we entered a huge dining room lined with food! There was too much to mention much in this review but the fried shrimp was my favorite although the spicy fried catfish was also stellar. Everything I put on my plate was delicious. The price might seem a bit steep at first glance but considering the price of a good meal in any restaurant it's a steal!!!! I will be back!!!!! read more

Hollis's seafood is a little slice of heaven in the little town of Spearsville. The buffet has anything you might want when you think seafood buffet. All the right sides such as turnip greens, stewed potatoes, corn, French fries,and the buttery rolls. They have all the right seafood and meats cooked the right way. The frog legs are crispy and clean. The boiled and fried shrimp are fresh and delicious. The barbecue ribs are fall off the bone good. The fish, stuffed crab, fried chicken, and gumbo are also delicious. The dessert bar is also to die for. There are also various cobblers and fudges that are all delicuous. The cinnamon rolls are the best, though. They cream cheese icing on top of the warm roll create something exceptional Hollis's is a little pricy but worth every dime. I would suggest everyone to make the drive and if you have the chance to go on Thursday night the prices are the cheapest. read more
