My daughter rode there for quite some time, and I have NO nice things to say. First off... it is being run by a flock of children, ranging from 8 to 12. These children "teach" the new comers how to "ride" while the old guy who's supposedly in charge plays in his phone or chats with some women on the other line. Even though the location is convenient for being right off the taconic...there are many other barns who will suit you and your children better and give them a safe and educational horse riding education. read more

It was an awful experience. The owner do not care about the bullying that is made in that barn by his favorite student and his wife, with children they don't like. Inconsistency in plans. He will tell you that you can pretty much come and be like a normal student. Were you will be teached to groom tack the horse and ride and do the aftercare. He will promise you that he will teach the child on the horse. And none of these things happens. Time and time again I had conversation with the owner about what the student can do and can't do. He changed it all the time. And then you have other children that is his favorite that comes in and takes over and say nasty things to your child, are manipulative and lying. One time this one child of the favorite,got told , no. Just the word no, and the person was accused of laying hands on that child. They believed the child and not the witnesses around that happens to be grown ups and other children. Acquaintance of a friend, I fact checked. Was boarding the horse there. After , It took 6 months for this horse to get off the drugs that the owner was giving this horse. Same drugs it gives to all the horses. What it is I don't know but it took 6 months for this horse to be clean. The wife of the owner , one summer. Do not do summer camp there it's pure harassment. My child was sad. AKA cry quietly. The other children could go outside and play but because my child was sad she was locked in by this woman in the tack room and not allowed out from there, for hours. . As long as the payment for 1 year is not made have, he wants you to pay yearly , it will be promised the gold and the kingdom. After 10 times the student has no value . There is a constant whining about money. He rather play western music on his phone standing in the ring aka arena. While the popular children decides who's going to ride where if they're going to canter trod or walk. This is where the other children is going to have to stand in the middle and Miss half the lesson while the other popular children are Galloping around like Wild Wild West and your child after one year only being able to walk and learned nothing. There is photo proof of marks on a student after the owners right hand was physical with the student. I can go on but the details are going to get censored by Yelp. I hope you get the picture by now. read more

My daughter started riding here about half year ago, western style. The experience has been great. Eric (the owner) is really nice and patient. He treat the kids as well as the horses with great care. My daughter enjoys riding so much and her skill improves quite a lot since riding here. Highly recommend. read more

This is a great place to come to ride horses. The owners Eric and Lorraine are very nice and helpful. It is clean and the horses are well taken care of. I definitely recommend if you are in the area. When I go back to visit New York. I would definitely go to Hollowbrook! read more

My friend LoriAnn told me about this place and I must say I'm so happy she did! Amazing place, beautiful scenic area, plenty of space and beautiful horses! Eric & Lorraine are super friendly and welcoming! Definitely worth the drive from NYC! I can't wait to visit again! read more

Terrible place. If I could give negative stars I would. I had my horse boarded there for a few months ...If I had only known better.... The property and barn are in shambles and falling apart. The conditions they keep the horses in are terrible. They use lame horses for lessons and when asked about the horses health the answer was always a defensive "the horse is fine, I know about horses" I feel bad for anyone who takes lessons there as Eric(the owner) is brusque and impatient with the riders and the kids camp consists of a crowd of children running around and riding in a circle on overworked and overused horses. When asked if they could clear the outdoor paddock (I had started out with pasture boarding) and run in of mud and piles of manure I was told that Eric didn't have time and would get to it when he could, or that the tractor was not strong enough to pick up so much mud and manure. so my horse stood in almost knee deep mud and poop for months. While I was coming up there everyday they treated him very well. Once I was not able to get there everyday things changed. I had him inside a stall in the barn (once it turned cold out) and paid for full board with turnout, only to find out that he was left in his stall for weeks at a time when I thought he was being let out everyday. When I asked the owners wife why he was stuck in his stall her answer was "my horse died and I was upset". While I'm sorry to see any horse pass away, my horse was still very much alive and I paid for full care board. This led to my removing my horse from the property. By the time I got him back he was weak and emaciated at almost 150 pounds underweight. Apparently they not only left him in his stall to rot but they neglected to feed him as well. Honestly I feel terrible for the horses. Don't waste your money. read more

If I could put no stars I would. The horses are often lame and overworked. The owners are rude and have poor people skills. I've learned more about horses from "Mr. Ed" than from the instructor. The owners wife, Loraine, is rude and always has a nasty look on her face. They will watch your every move until you feel like you're being stalked. Do not let one or two 5-star reviews fool you. Save your time, sanity, and money. Go to any other barn. read more

If I could rate no stars or negative stars I would. This is a horrible place to even try to learn anything about horses , The guy who does the lessons is really mean and always has a nasty look on his face and something nasty to say . The lessons consist of him telling you to walk around a small boring riding ring . You walk while being yelled at about how you should sit and where to keep your hands . And if your lucky you will trot around the ring once or twice and god forbid the horse stops you will be getting yelled at about not doing something right . The lady I believe Loraine is her name is really nasty and rude and sits Around staring with a dirty look while you stroll around the small riding ring getting yelled at . The man giving the lessons is sitting off to the side or just looking pissed off . The horses all look like they are in terrible shape and I can't find a single thing positive to say about this place other than there are one or two young ladies that will smile and say hi and ask how riding was . My thoughts are that they are there as help , Stay away from this place - Far away . I have heard a lot of bad things about this place before going and thought it couldn't be true . I love horses and figured nothing would bother me if I was riding a horse but I was wrong . Ruined my day and I don't think anyone should have to go through that . Even worse it is one of the very few places to ride a horse near me . Really negative place read more

We have been going to Hollowbrook for almost 3 years now. My daughter has learned so much from Eric and Lorraine. Our experience here has been so overwhelmingly positive that we now think of them as family. The horses are healthy and treated very well. This is a family that truly loves what they do. The other girls who ride at this barn are also some of the greatest kids I've met at a riding academy. The time we spend here is the highlight of my daughter's week. read more

TERRIBLE experience. I arrived with my sister and two six year old daughters for a private lesson. The owner Eric came out and gruffly said, "Next time, long pants." No "Hello" or "Welcome" and he just glared at us. My daughters were wearing shorts and knee socks. Since I spoke with him over the phone to make the reservation and told him this was their first time riding, you'd think Eric could have mentioned that tip. His manner was so rude that my daughters both asked "Why is that man being so mean? He didn't even say hello to us." My sister and I are Asian and my daughters are half Asian and I had the gut feeling that our ethnicity was an issue for this man. Anyway, I remained courteous and we took the lesson which consisted of the unsmiling Eric leading the girls around an inside riding area in a circle. He didn't really make it fun for the girls and barely spoke to them, stopping the lesson early. The only time he was somewhat friendly was when he was taking my money for the lesson. We were going to our car and happened to notice the next customers outside, a Caucasian family. Eric walked out and warmly greeted them, smiling and even shaking hands with their kids. Their son was also wearing shorts but Eric said nothing to the family about the shorts. His behavior was so vastly different from how he greeted us that one of my daughters said, "The man is being very nice to those other people, but he wasn't that nice to us." I said, "Well, sweetie, maybe he's not used to people who are different from him." It was heartbreaking that something that was supposed to be a fun new experience for my young daughters turned out to be their first experience with bigotry. BTW, I am a former CEO of a company with over 800 people and if I had an employee like Eric I would advise him not to be in a customer facing business. My advice is STAY AWAY from this place. read more

But Stoneview is definitely the longest time my horses have been boarded. I hope it's like home for them by now. I love the people at Stoneview Farms. It's no drama, no bossing, no rudeness, and no stress. Stoneview Farms is a place where people come to enjoy their time with their horses. I really appreciate that. The schedule is very open but I always check for availability on special days. So far I can visit my horses anytime: 8 pm or 6 am. On holiday days or weekends. This is important since I live 35 miles away and I have a very busy schedule. The barn is kept extremely clean. The horse stalls are 14x14 large. Perfect for really big horses like mine. It has windows that are open in the summer. It never really gets too hot in this barn. I think it is because of the altitude of its location. There is always a nice breeze. The farm also has a large arena, a round pen, a jumping field and a track. The horses are not crowded in their paddocks which means there is plenty of green landscape for our equines to enjoy. The Taddeo family and their employees work tirelessly in improving the previously neglected farm. Every month there is something new, something improved and it makes everyone happy. Its already a gorgeous farm that suits our pocket sizes. Some boarders are serious horse people. They will ride under any weather, and their horses are worked almost daily in their skills. That is always inspiring to me. Some horses there are retired but they look very happy and cared for by their owners. Some horses belong to Eric Taddeo and these are race horses that are worked out almost daily. I really enjoy seeing all this activity. But nobody is preaching and its a very relaxed atmosphere without die hard rules. I do recommend this farm. It's a pity they don't have an indoor or a warm space to hang out in the winter with my children. But I'm certain that eventually it will happen... I love their new instructor Laura Juhlin and she has brought in so much business by teaching horse ridding to children and adults. She is also very easy going and knowledgeable of her horses. We go up this time... no horses, new fence, one barn is missing and all I see are sheep. What the frig Ricky?! So I search for other farms and find Lucky C Stables. We randomly drive to this place and just ask out the window if we could feed some horses... to our surprise we were met with smiling faces and even given a tour of the barns!! It was so enjoyable and we met, pet and fed so many cool horse buddies, that I would love to come back and book a trail ride or lesson next time I am around. Hi I was raised in the UK and rode English style all my life. After years of not riding regularly, and with kids going to college, I decided to try Hollowbrook as I used to pass by there regularly and was curious to check it out. There are a lot of young girls that go there, they are very good riders and have a great relationship with Lorraine and Eric the owners. The stables is small with lovely horses and a nice vibe. Sometimes new horses arrive looking underweight and the first thing Eric does is boost their diet with supplements and other nutrients aside from just hay and you can see them gain weight and a shiny coat. I soon found my favorite horse and learnt Western Style riding which is so different to English style. The price for lessons is very reasonable and Eric imparts many stories about his 55 years of teaching riding and working with horses which I really enjoy. He gives the young girls a lot of freedom and although he gives off a casual attitude, he actually maintains safety as his top priority. Most of the riding does take place within a paddock but there are ways to challenge yourself such as cantering and doing reining exercises. The review below about locking kids in the tack room and other abuses is total slander and rubbish. I am not sure what motivated this person to project total falsehoods. You don't pay for a whole year, there are no 'donors' and the older girls are so great with the younger girls who really look up to them. This person 'Mari B' is not known to the business and they do know all their clients. Eric's wife and daughter are very welcoming and sweet to the young girls especially. I love just dropping by to say hello even if I am not riding that day. read more

We have been bringing our daughter to Hollowbrook riding academy for about 3 years now, since she was old enough to start riding, although my husband has known Eric and his family since he was a child himself. The owners Eric and Lorraine are both very nice and they truly care about the horses and the riders. It is a fun and safe environment for everyone and the horses. The horses are well taken care of and the stalls are cleaned daily. The children that ride here, year round, love coming here and sometimes they come just to help out, whether it be with cleaning, taking care of the horses, and even to help with lessons. The team here is amazing and they all work together. Everyone is very nice and everyone gets along, and no one is ever left out or feels left out! All of the kids that come here love each other and are nothing but nice to each other. I have never seen anything negative between anyone here. There is also a huge yard that all the girls and kids play in during the day when they aren't riding, or helping in the barn or taking care of horses. They have picnic tables and chairs under a big tree right next to the hollowbrook where everyone sits to eat lunch or just hang out to relax. Sometimes the girls even go down to the hollowbrook to look at the fish or just splash around in the water and explore! Birthdays are really fun here too. I have nothing but positive things to say about Hollowbrook Riding Academy and we will always be a part of the family here. read more

My daughter has been obsessed with horses since she was old enough to talk. Finally, at 6yo, we signed her up for summer camp at hollow brook. It's been absolutely amazing to watch her progress here. Eric, the owner, was present for everything in camp but let the teens who work there really run the camp. The girls were kind and helpful to my daughter, showing her how to brush the horses, which brush is meant for what part, how to tack the horse and so much more. I watched her ride for the first time that first day and then left. When I came back to pick her up, my little girl who approaches everything with calculated care, was running up to each horse to tell me their names and to pet them goodbye. The confidence she grew in that one week has crossed into other aspects of her life as well, which is so wonderful to see. Almost one month later, and she still regularly talks about the girls she met at camp with such a positive light. We are continuing at Hollow Brook with half hour lessons 1-2 times a week. Eric runs these lessons on his own and is kind and patient but blunt, which has actually been really helpful in getting my daughter to believe in herself the way I know she's capable. 6 lessons in, and she's already planning her days at summer camp next year. read more

Hollowbrook is an amazing place! The owners are great people and nice to talk to. It takes a bit to get used to but its worth it. These people will help you gain confidence with your horses. Being around horses is not the easiest thing to do, but here you can gain more confidence. There amazingly trained horses will take great care of you. No horses are perfect but thats what you need to become a better rider! You see, horses are amazing to be around and you just need to find the horse for you, and Hollowbrook will help you with that. Eric and Lorraine are wonderful people and will help you learn to ride in a fun way! Hollowbrook is a great family place. ou always feel comfortable around the people and horses and never have to worry. The owners are great people and extremely friendly. If I could give 100 stars I would. Hollowbrook is an amazing place to learn to care for horses, western riding, and so much more. The horses there are very safe and reliable. This is a family owned and operated , fun and exciting, riding and learning place that every young or old horse lover should visit or take lessons at. We have been going here for about 5 years now and have become very friendly with the entire family. My Granddaughter started out taking lessons in the summers and is now a "Rough Rider" helping the owners with their Summer Camp Programs!!! They treat people like family. The horses are well mannered. It is a horse barn remember... So it will not smell like Roses..lol lol If you want to learn from the best, If you want a comfortable place to learn about horses or take some riding lessons then come on in for a WONDERFUL, FUN LEARNING TIME. My young daughter has been riding at Hollowbrook for the last three-years and has been loving every minute of it! Eric is so incredibly good with the kids, even children with special needs. He is patient, encouraging, and always puts safety first. The other staff, including Eric's wife are always friendly and welcoming. My daughter has progressed so much since her start and has become a confident and competent rider. She has also developed some really nice friendships with the other riders as they are all kind and friendly, the barn is her favorite place to be! She especially looks forward to summer camp where she not only rides but learns how to care for the horses as well as develops her responsibility for their care. read more

My daughter and I took dozens of lessons from Eric. I have to say that she became a very accomplished rider. I would watch what she had learned and think this girl could be a barrel racer. I became a pretty fair rider myself. My daughter is 20 and I'm over the hill but that didn't stop me from galloping around Costa Rica last week on trail rides. Yea I got chewed out but the wrangler did admit that i knew my way around horses. Thank you Eric and Lorrane for a gift that will last a lifetime. If your looking for someone to kiss your ass while trying to teach you how to ride try English. Maybe cowboys aren't for you. read more

One of my granddaughters is obsessed about horses and started to ride this summer after moving across the country. Thanks to Eric and Lorraine she was welcome immediately into the family of horses lover and under the supervision of Eric built her confidence in a very short time. My other two granddaughters were also very welcome and under the guidance of Eric and Lorraine got very confident around horses in an incredible short time . My daughter and I discovered Hollowbrook Riding Academy almost two years ago, and ever since my daughter has been having the most wonderful and amazing riding experience with Eric and Lorraine! They give her such love and encouragement, and her confidence continues to grow every week. She loves spending her summers and vacations at Hollowbrook camp, and Eric and Lorraine have made her feel so happy and secure- both as a rider, and as a person. Hollowbrook is SUCH a fun family place. if you are a rider who is experiencing a lack of confidence when riding just come on over here to hollowbrook, here they will help you gain confidence with yourself, they will show you you can do it! I have been riding here for twenty years. Eric and Lorraine are excellent teachers and wonderful people. The horses always come first here. The one-star reviews are fake -- I know the one person who posted them. You have to wear long pants on a horse -- why do you think cowboys wear chaps OVER their jeans? And as for "watching your every move", isn't that what instructors are paid to do? You will not find a better western barn anywhere around. Don't be fooled by the haters. read more

Hollowbrook is the best place ever! You always feel comfortable around the people and horses and never have to worry. The owners are great people and extremely friendly. If I could give 100 stars I would. Hollowbrook is an amazing place to learn horsemanship, western riding, and so much more. The horses there are safe and reliable with amazing personalities. I have taken lessons at Hollowbrook as an adult. With the help of Lorraine and Eric, I overcame my inexperience and clumsiness and became a good rider. It was an totally positive experience and I still ride there. The skills I got there have allowed me to ride horses safely on vacations in various countries. I could have done that without the Hollowbrook experience. It is a great family friendly barn and a great place to get away from it all. read more

My daughter started riding a year ago. We discovered Hollowbrook almost by accident but thank goodness we did. She started the winter camp which led into biweekly lessons which led into summer camp for the whole summer. I can not say enough about how the owner fosters the relationships of the riders with one another and the horses. This is my daughter's happy place. She continues to thrive here. read more

Hollowbrook is having an open house on October 26. You can watch four people ride side by side. They call themselves the banana club. They are also dressing up the horses for horsey halloween. You will also get a tour of the stable. The owners are really nice and would do anything for their horses. Now if you've been going there for a while the banana club might take you out on a trail. read more

I am 55 and have always loved riding horse but never took lessons. Lorraine and Eric took the time to listen to what I wanted to accomplish and have been great in helping me achieve my goal of being a better horse person.
