I originally signed up for just 3 days for 1 week as a trial but he asked to go back the following week and they were able to get him in last minute. His counselor was Matthew and my son came home talking about him each day. He loved the bead program and the counselors are all so engaged and committed to ensuring the campers adjust well. I was so impressed with every administrator I came in contact with as well. He wasn't in to swimming so they gave him other options during that time whereas another camp made him sit in the grass for 45 minutes and watch the other kids swim. A true CAMP experience!!!

Super fun Girl Scout Camp not too far from NYC / Westchester - about an hour, give or take…read more The great thing is that the drive up starts to feel more and more like "the country" as you get closer. It's kind of easy to miss the entrance but once you find it, you be able to park and walk to the various campsites. Not sure if this qualifies as "glamping"... There are pre-pitched tents with cots as well as cabins and bathroom buildings with showers, toilets and running water at each of the sites. Apparently there are cabins as well but I haven't seen any kids staying in them (they may be for younger kids, when they're here). There are also covered cooking areas with sinks and hearths for fire building and outdoor bonfire fire pits already cleared and ringed with large rocks. Having said that, these areas are all open to the elements, save the roofs in the cooking areas and the bathrooms / tents. Overall a very quiet, peaceful spot in the woods, with tons of trees and a beautiful lake. This is a pretty great introduction to camping for kids if they've never gone camping before.

After 8 years of summer bliss at Pennsylvania Girls Scout Camps we thought we would try Rock Hill. The first year we signed up they cancelled the entire season with no notice 3 weeks before it was supposed to start. This year my daughter was sent home 2 days into her first week for a conflict that was handled incredibly poorly and wouldn't even have been a bump in the road for Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania. To make matters worse they didn't even bother to follow up to discuss with us what happened. We will never go back to this camp and will happily continue driving 2 hours to wonderful Woodhaven, Laughing Waters and Mosey Wood where my daughter is happy and safely away from the drama and incompetence that seems to be plaguing Rock Hill. I'm glad others have had better experiences but beware because when things go wrong they do not know how to handle it.

My son has a severe food allergy so I was always anxious about that but we have never ever felt unsafe at any time. They are extremely accommodating and safety is their #1 concern! The administration is completely transparent when it comes to communicating about literally everything. Whether it's an update about Covid protocols or a reminder that it's pajama day! When I originally looked for daycares a few years ago, I called and emailed every place in the area. This was the only one that responded in a timely manner! I took about 3 tours and asked a million questions. Communication is so important! I chose CK mahopac because they overly communicate, challenging curriculum and kind staff. I highly recommend checking them out for yourselves if you are in the market for a daycare. They have great early mornings hours (6:30) which not all day cares have. I welcome any messages from any prospective parents! Creative Kids Mahopac treats your child like they are the most important person at all times.

The staff (from counselors to instructors) is also fantastic and a group of very experienced professionals. The directors are always developing new programs and bringing in the latest activities for campers of all ages. One of the newest additions to the camp is the climbing wall and zip line. My kids could not get enough of them. My kids are also huge fans of animals and the fact that Deerkill has a pony, and a couple of friendly alpacas is a great plus. Overall, I would recommend Deerkill to anyone that would like to provide their kids with the opportunity to have summers they will never forget making life long friends along the way. Parents…read morepay a high price and it's well worth it, but they should understand that the most members of the staff (who make the campers experience such a positive one) are payed what amounts to 3 or 4 dollars an hour over the course of the summer. I'm not really sure why this is legal and mgmt's justification is that counsellors receive tips at the end of the summer. (Thank you for subsidizing some of the salaries,) but there are many committed young people who work very hard to make ever camper's summer an amazing one don't share in those tips. I'm sure the owners are doing quite well and it's a shame that a part of their success is a result of taking advantage of The young people who are so dedicated to making Kiwi a success.
