My father was admitted last week for a two week Respite Care Stay and we are very happy we chose this center. My family and I toured about four other care centers and Holly Heights stood out with the excellent staff and attentiveness. Unfortunately, my mother was a resident of Holly Heights Nursing Care Center and Rehabilitation from December, 2023 to December, 2024. She passed away on December 3, 2024. I believe the extremely poor quality of her life there, and the lack of medical attention shortened her life significantly. During the first six months of her residency, she received subpar day-to-day care. She did have one CNA that she really liked, but she left when management changed. Complaints during this time period included being soiled for extended periods, slow response to the call button (upward of an hour), filthy living conditions, a mouse infestation, no emotional support and overall rude management that dismissed the family's concerns. My mother's vision greatly declined so it was hard for her to use a phone. We had to rely on staff to bring her a phone to have any type of communication. The staff was always so put out with this request, and would often hang up on family members. You were lucky if someone even answered the phone! It was hit or miss. Fast forward to September, 2024. This is when my mother truly suffered and declined. Ownership changed, which included a whole new administrative staff. They also cut staff and wages for existing employees (which was relayed to me by one staff member). Mom suffered a stroke that sent her to the hospital. Unfortunately, the stroke was undiagnosed by the hospital. She should have had an MRI performed. While in the hospital, she was diagnosed with a urinary tract infection. This to me, is a result of her not receiving proper hygiene care from staff. The biggest health concern, is that my mother was complaining of lower abdomen pain. This was ignored by the staff, doctor and social worker that got involved due to the family constantly asking for help. Because the facility refused to have additional testing done, the family had to go outside of the facility for further testing. As a result of a CT Scan, it was recommended that a colonoscopy be performed. By the time we got the clearance for this procedure from the Cardiologist, it was too late. We waited 8 months for this health condition to be addressed by the facility. My mother was just too weak for the procedure. I believe she had a serious health condition, as this was a hereditary condition that we were concerned about. The food menu changed dramatically once ownership changed. Many food items were discontinued, and food quality was so bad. Many residents complained of how awful the food is. How do I know this? Well, because many residents shared this with me. The food was so bad, that my mother had no desire to eat. Also, due to her stroke, she was unable to properly feed herself. The food was just dropped on her table. She had to fend for herself, and it was a real struggle for her. Every time family visited my Mother, we consistently had to clean off the food that was slopped on her chest, bedding and the floor. She was not able to hold a cup without spilling the contents all over herself and floor. We eventually purchased a non-spill cup for her. My mother was severely depressed in this facility and declined quickly as a result of living conditions and lack of empathy from the staff. The activity director only visited my mother one time (toward end of life). My mother's existence consisted of laying in bed all day, with headphones attached, listening to the same TV program over and over again. Unfortunately, I was out of state, so my visits were not as frequent as I'd like. They did become more frequent once I learned of the appalling living conditions. When I did visit, I was shocked, deeply saddened at what my poor mother succumbed to. She felt helpless and just checked out emotionally. All of the above was reported to the facility, Ombudsman, Colorado Health Department and Adult Protective Services. An inspection was completed by the Health Department 1 1/2 months from my initial complaint. This was just too late. The facility was fully aware of pending inspections from various agencies, so they were able to portray a false impression of what normal conditions are really like because of the heads up. It should be noted, that the staff often blamed my mother the lack of her care. So, let's blame a stroke victim for her declining care? It's just easier for them this way I guess. She did this because she dreaded interacting with many employees, especially the social worker and the new management team. Her concerns fell on deaf ears. This is so shameful and inexcusable! Sadly, new management (director and nursing director) was not accountable in any way for the lack of care for my mother. I was told that weekly communication with the family was a courtesy only and should not be expected, and that they had lives outside of work. Yep, that's what we were told on a phone conference. If you are considering Holly Heights for the care of your loved one, please do your due diligence! read more

My stepfather was only there for a few weeks, but I felt he received good care by everyone.

I will continue to have the same opinion of this facility! The overall reviews or comments about this facility is not accurate. Do your homework visit the facility, including the back of the property where it's a dumping ground for broken down beds and other items the staff there is not friendly. In fact, Pam, the nurse told me that she didn't have a crystal ball that would tell me when my mother would pass away. That is not something that someone wants to hear, especially when she passed away the following day there's no compassion and they are various thought to respond to their patients! read more

We placed my little sister here and they were terrible. She was sent to the hospital two times at our demand and both times she was dehydrated malnourished and had sepsis. When I would feed her by hand she gobbled at the food like a starving person stuck in the desert. She drank three 10 oz glasses of water because she was so thirsty. Unfortunately, she passed away and I strongly believe their lack of care expedited her death. We had asked for copies of her psychological evaluation and other records but never received anything. They give lots of promises but no service. Even though I am morning the loss of my sister, I am being truthful in this review. They're lucky we are not seeking legal action against them. Our parents needed a new TV installed on their room, but the new TV didn't come with screws to attach the wall mount. Henry & Taylor promptly volunteered to find the correct screws, and went ahead to mount the TV, and to program it for us. this is an example of the excellent customer see provided to our parents - above & beyond performance. read more

Ever dream about a dystopian long-term care facility? This is definitely the place! I was shocked by how horrible the living conditions in this place are. As I walked down the hall, there was an overwhelming odor of urine that had been uncleaned. An elderly person sat in a wheelchair passed out in the middle of the hall, right next to a large garbage bag full and just left to rot next to him. The room quality was the worst I've ever seen. We moved my step-father to Holly Heights for hospice after being in two other facilities. Never before in the other two facilities, was he treated or cared for so well. All of the staff from the nurses to the CNAs to the activities to the food servers to people who helped clean to administration were so kind and caring to both my stepdad and all of us. He even enjoyed the food much better than the other two places which were supposed to be high end facilities . When he died last week, all of these people were here with us and waited with us for hours even after their shifts until his body was picked up. They were kind and comforting until his last day, and beyond. We are still getting calls this week just to check on us and see how we are doing. This is honestly the best place when you want constant caring for your loved one. I highly recommend Holly Heights and all of it's staff. read more

After multiple small strokes over 7 years, my husband entered a hospice care program during which time he transferred from home care to hospice care at Holly Heights. Prior to residency at Holly Heights, he had been hospitalized multiple times for strokes and stroke-related issues: falls with concussions, fractured vertebrae, etc. After hospitalization, he usually went into "rehab" at local care centers, so as a family, we became familiar with staff and services at other venues. Therefore, when it came time to transfer my husband from home to care center care, we (my sons and I) were quite anxious about the quality of care he would receive. But from the moment we entered the reception area at Holly Heights, we sensed we had found a superior care center for him. Administration and staff were friendly, kindly and sensitive to our situation. The quality of care he received was above and beyond what he had at other facilities in the metro Denver area. In addition, the dining and recreational facilities were far superior to other care centers. Very little (perhaps nothing?) in life is perfect, but Holly Heights staff work hard to get as close to perfection as is possible. If you or a loved needs hospice and/or long term care, seriously consider Holly Heights in your selection process. read more

My sister was "placed" here by the VA. She had been a patient at very nice hospice at Lutheran Hospital so this was a big step down. The intake personal are really kind and caring, right up until they secure your funds. Then, you are a burden and with the Covid restrictions it made it so much easier for them to be rude. Steer clear of this facility if you want respectful treatment for your loved one. My sister was only there for 2 weeks. When they returned her items; most of them did not belong to her. This is only one small example of the inept and careless treatment we received. read more

I am currently a resident of the Colorado State Veterans Home at Fitzsimons in Aurora, CO, having been admitted about a week ago. While waiting to be placed here permanently following several snafus by my former health insurance carrier, I was a resident at Holly Heights Care Center in southeast Denver from March through July 2019. While at the latter, I made many new friends among both fellow residents and staff alike. Compared to other private-sector nursing homes that my wife researched, Holly Heights is notch above the others. Speaking strictly based on my own personal experience, from the administrative staff, down through the nurses, nursing assistants, various clinical aides, housekeeping, maintenance and dietary personnel, I was treated even-handedly and will be forever grateful for the care. read more

Holly heights nursing home cared for my father until he recently died from Parkinson's disease. I always felt that the staff cared for him as one of their own family. Even through the whole Covid 19 disease they tried to face time with us so he would not feel so isolated. I would love to list all the names of the staff that treated my family and father so lovingly but there are too many. Thank you for all that you do. I will always be grateful. read more

I would not recommend Holly Heights for family members personal care. Extremely understaffed which leads to poor care for all residents. This is a lack of leadership from the administrator. Due to numerous conversations with staff members over the years the administrator bullies, harasses, and has a complete lack of empathy and respect towards the staff and residents. That is why I chose to move my family member out of this facility and encourage others to do the same. read more

My father took a turn for the worse on a Friday. After being hospitalized for a few days it was clear he would require full time care. I reached out to Holly Heights as I was familiar with the location. It is very close to my home. My anxiety was high as I had no idea how to handle the situation. I was put in contact with Denise the director, and she listened to all my concerns and was there to guide me through the process. Everyone has been so kind and helpful. This facility may be older, but very clean and caring. I have had a wonderful experience there visiting my 97 year old grandmother. The people working there are loving and sincere. The activities are plentiful, fun, and certainly entertaining. Just last year 2018 they received a Quality award. I would recommend them for your loved ones. read more

The people here are amazing. My father n law is 91 and is currently under hospice care. The staff has loved him like a father. They have taken great care of him. It is privately owned and they accept Medicaid. We have been so pleased and relieved to have him in a place where we know they genuinely care about him. read more

I would like to take a moment out of my day to write a review, so people like me don't have to go through what I did. Holly Heights, was the place where I chose for my loved one. I heard great reviews on how well the staff was, and how clean of a facility it was. However I soon found to be nothing short of a complete lie. On many different occasions, I found many different staff members on smoke breaks while my loved one was sitting there is wet clothes. This happened over and over, and it was never fixed nor did I get an apology. On several visited that I made, I found ant piles, as well as mice droppings. I came to the conclusion that this is not a place where I would like my loved one to spend the last of his days. I hope that this can be helpful in making a decision. LVR read more

As I sit in ICU with my father on Veterans Day, I want to say that Holly Heights cares more about money than about elderly veterans. We had 12 days to place my father in a nursing facility and we applied to Holly Heights. I told them of the time constraint and asked them to tell me if there was any reason I should be looking further. They said things looked great and there shouldn't be a problem. 8 days later they called to say they wouldn't take him. This was on Friday afternoon and he had to be moved somewhere by Tuesday morning. Their reason? His meds would cost them too much compared to the VA contract. I offered to pay the difference or to bring his meds in, but they wouldn't budge. We were left high and dry with only one business day left. My father was crippled in his military service and is treated like this! He was very depressed. Now we are in ICU and he isn't expected to live. I hope that Holly Heights ' greed and lack of consideration catch up with them. read more
