My granddaughters, ages 5 and 9, had a great time on their first fishing trip. Seeing families enjoying outdoor times in the park makes me nostalgic, and I wish my family had enjoyed such moments with me when I was younger. I have been a member of South Gate Park Sport Center for a while. When I enrolled I asked one of…read morethe staff members if I could play handball in the racquetball courts (there are 2 courts in this building) and if I could lock the door while playing, so I was told I could. All this time I have. Today I was playing handball in the racquetball court # 2 with the door locked for about 15 minutes when two staff members ( two ladies) opened the door. One started yelling at me saying that I was NOT supposed to lock the door and I was NOT allowed to play handball, only racquetball. She also said that I was only allowed to play for twenty minutes. I asked her why the racquetball courts # 1 was used as a storage (it's been like that for a while) and it has furniture in it, then the other lady said it was their decision to use it as a storage. I told her that that creates inconvenience to gym members like me. Then the lady who opened the door and started yelling at me with attitude said that I hade the option to cancel my membership. I told her that there is no signage on the door saying that playing handball was NOT allowed nor there was a time limit to play in the racquetball courts. I asked when they came out with those changes and they said just did. I told them I was very disappointed that they came YELLING at me from the first second they opened the door instead of talking to me. I asked for their names and both refused to give me theirs names. I took of picture of the lady who yelled at me and she told me I was not allowed to do so. I told her this is a PUBLIC BUILDING so I did not need her permission to do so. I also told her that yelling at me was a very STUPID way to approach me. She needs training. She is there to assist and help gym members, she is not there to yell at anybody just because she thinks she owns the building. She said she was filling out my membership cancellation for a full refund, so I said go ahead and cancel out. I did told her a couple of times that the way she approached me was a VERY STUPID way to start an interaction. If she has some personal issues at home, she needs to keep them there and treat every gym member with respect. She told me I could speak to her manager, so I said ok let me talk to your manager, then the other lady said there was no manager available. I asked who was in charge of the Spirt Center right now? She said the manager is not here. I told her, I am confused now, you told me I can speak to your manager but there is no manager available??? Really???? I took a picture of the lady who yelled at me since she REFUSED to give me her name. I will be more than HAPPY not to see her STUPID FACE nor interact with her RIDICULOUS way to treat gym members. This lady lacks of TRAINING on how to communicate and speak to gym members with RESPECT.

As I was driving by, looking for a parking space, I noticed a group of guys that might not be the most the approachable. As I typed that, a security guard drives by in a golf cart lol regardless, the park is pretty packed at this time on a chilly Thursday evening (7pm). Temple Park is located in west Downey, just north of Los Amigos Golf Course…read more Accessible via Stewart and Gray Road, it sits in the middle of a nice neighborhood. It's a very small park and playground area with a couple of bbq pits and several picnic tables. The Park was originally dedicated in 1968 (according to http://www.thedowneypatriot.com/) and was said to have had a pretty cool spiral slide... too bad I never had the chance to see it. At any rate, a new playground was put in and the park was re-dedicated in July of this year ('15). There are two swings for older ages. The only way your baby or younger toddler will get to swing is if you hold them in your lap. No baby swings are available. The area with the slide is nice, but I can't imagine kids any older than preschool really wanting to spend much time here unless you brought a frisbee or something. Both of these area have wood chips (bark mulch) instead of sand or rubber mulch, etc. as the surfacing. If the entire area was fenced in, I might like it better when I have both of our girls to myself. It's not a real busy area with traffic, but there were a few cars moving in and out while we were there on 9/17/15. It was around 11:30 a.m. when we went there and not a soul was in sight. Also, I really wish that the City would develop a better way to contain trash that was probably placed into the open barrel trash cans but made its way back onto the playground and lushes grass areas. What a vibrant park full of life! We discovered it while dropping off our ballots to vote,…read moreattracted by the community spirit surrounding the drop-off box. With a group practicing yoga, workout stations available, inviting tables to enjoy meals, a track for walking our furry friends, and children joyfully playing baseball, the energy was infectious. Though we wished for a disc golf section, we made the most of our time playing frisbee instead. Overall, it was a truly inspiring park experience.

This is a very nice well kept park in a very hard to find parking neighborhood. We arrived in my…read moretruck with our bicycles so we could ride the Los Angeles River trail to Long Beach. There's very limited parking spaces available at this long narrow park but luckily some people were leaving just as I arrived. Unfortunately the gate was locked to access the trail and we had to ride north to Rosecrans to enter the trail.
