The park is generally safe and family-oriented. Sometimes there are questionable characters idling around. Watch out for doggy doody on the grass and paths. Some people don't clean up after their dogs. I would not go to this park after dark. read more

Simms park is not the park you want to bring your family or kids to .you cant even enjoy the park you are constantly geting harass by the South west control security guards, they are they some private company they hire to watch the park they tell you how many chairs and tents you could bring to the park it's limited you can't bring your own barbecue grill . also, the park is being ran by a guy named PJ. he never is in the office. He never answer the phone. you only can talk to his secretary. he got over 25 employees at this one park please somebody tell me where is my tax money is going to because this is ridiculous. You telling me all these guys are sitting at a desk at the same park. getting paid this is where our tax money is going to bellflower. Cute clean park with a spacious playground. One of the best in the area for social distancing because the playground equipment is really spread out around the wood chipped play area. The park is big and grassy too. There's a fun makeshift soccer arena where you can pen in your toddler while he practices kicks. There was soap in the park bathrooms! That is unusual from my experience and a great thing for a proper hand wash. read more

This Review is for the Little Dragons Program they offer at Simms Park. Warning for parents of 4-year-olds deciding to sign up for the Little Dragons program at Simms Park in Bellflower for the Little Dragons (4-6 year old program) by 360 Martial Arts Academy instructed Mr. Ramirez. I would advise against signing them up for this program until they are older as Mr. Ramirez's teaching style is not fit for 4-year-olds. We recently signed up my 4 and half year-old son for this program for the Jan 2024 classes. It was his first class ever as other classes we tried to sign him up for in the past have either been cancelled by the instructor before it started or were full. So, you can imagine my boy would be excited to be surrounded by new kids. That First class my boy was too excited and started following another kid that was not staying still and trying to play with him. His second class we were told by Mr. Ramirez that he did better this time but we need to work more on personal space. My son missed the third class, because he got a cold and we didn't want to bring him and get everyone else sick. For the fourth class, he was excited and was just all over the place to back in class with these new kids from the 10 minutes I saw as they left the door open for stragglers. After this fourth class Mr. Ramirez already decided that my son was not worth his time for this class as he provided comments discouraging my son NOT to return. Such as, we should hold off on getting the uniform as it might not work out and that he might be too young for the class. My wife called the Bellflower Parks and Rec office and spoke with a director who even admitted to my wife, as he has kids as well, that 4, 5 and 6 year olds are different in demeanor. So why is this program offering a class to include 4 year olds if their instructor can not handle a demeanor of a 4 year old. They should change the age for this program to 5-7 year olds as Mr. Ramirez's teaching style is more fit for older kids as he doesn't have patience for the 4 year olds. We asked for a refund as we were basically ran out of the class by Mr. Ramirez's comments but Bellflower policy is no refunds but their office is trying anyway due to this bad experience. If we don't get a refund they basically took our money without rendering services. Would you call that a scam? I wonder how much money 360 Martial Arts Academy has made from them running away parents whose kid did not fit their teaching style and still took their money? So you've been warned parents of 4 year olds. If you decide to sign your 4 year old for this little Dragons class you're just paying to have your kid evaluated to see if they are worthy of this class. So there is a 50/50 chance that you will be informed by Mr. Ramirez that your child might be too young for this class and not to buy the uniform as it might not work out. I guess this is what you get for $72. Remember there are other classes that teach "Honesty, Integrity and Respect" too, not just karate. We might try sports later on within the Bellflower Parks and Recs system but were gonna take a little break due to this bad experience. I was hesitant putting him in this little dragons class as Karate is an antiquated martial art as everyone knows Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is the top martial art form. I should have listened to my gut and just waited another 6 months to put him in the Gracie Jiu Jitsu Little Champs program. read more

I'm conflicted about how I feel about this park. One thing that is not mentioned at all in previous reviews at all is the fact that no animals are allowed at the park. Idk if that is a new rule but the park crew was actually out and enforcing it. I wish that would be posted somewhere on their website or here rather than just a small sign the size of ledger paper near the basketball court. I understand having to have pets on a leash at all times but to say they aren't allowed at all is kind of ridiculous. With that said I wasn't able to spend much time in the park as I had to take my dog home in order to return to a birthday party. Again I wish that was posted virtually somewhere, because I was responsible enough to look before. The park itself seems pretty decent. Lots of green space, picnic areas near trees. There is ample parking within the park property. They have indoor gym and facilities for rent however I cannot speak to the quality as I did not visit them. A rather large outdoor area with gym equipment that seems fairly new and/or well maintained. The basketball courts were well kept as well. A baseball diamond was toward the back of park and a playground with lots for little ones to climb. Pretty standard nothing spectacular. I was intrigued about the playground was a mini soccer area presumably for toddler aged kids to play soccer. That is a feature I've not seen at many parks. There's one thing that cannot be overlooked. This park did have some questionable characters roaming around. My visit was a Saturday, I'm not sure if this would be different during the week. While we were there we also noticed overly aggressive basketball playing and arguments with lots of audible foul language which was less than becoming of a "family friendly" park. I get that there is little that can be done about this however just something to be aware of. Our group was near the playground but could still hear all the hostility. It was uncomfortable to say the least. All in all I'd say this is your average park, however this no animal rule brings is down a notch for me. I wish the park had shining features that made one forget about that fact however in my personal opinion not as much. read more

Really enjoy this park-esp bc it's big and has so many things like a workout area, running/walking track, basketball court, baseball area, playground and clean bathrooms that always has tp. There are some worker though who clean their and water down the fields but is hazardous sometimes bc of all the dirt/dust that's in the air esp while people/kids are running/walking/playing. There are laws to those things and were told by one of the park goers they aren't doing their jobs correctly. We are all breathing in that extra dirt/dust on top of the smog we are already inhaling..js. The worker stopped and continued to correctly do his job. But, this park is pretty busy and nice overall. read more

I attended a baby shower here this past weekend. The facility was very, Vee nice. I'd definitely recommend this facility in the future! The park also is very clean and family friendly; no loitering or hanging out. Very nice atmosphere. read more

Great park that's very clean with a very well kept play area for children and plenty of walking spaces for dogs or if you just want to walk on your own. They have a huge parking lot and their bathrooms are always clean. They offer a bunch of fun classes and activities that are always really well run such as karate and boot camp. read more

Features include a kitchen, multi-purpose room, and picnic area. I've hosted a training conference at the auditorium here. There is a teen/volunteer center. This is also the administrative headquarters for the city Parks and Recreation Department. You can also rent the gym or softball diamond in advance. read more

Love the child's playground. The incorporation of the small box in soccer field is great for small kids.

Horrible place. Everyone here sits on the grass and smokes weed. And the park people don't do anything about it. They're supposed to call the police but they're useless. They get paid to sit in the office and do nothing. read more

This park is a little outdated compared to other parks in the city. The parking lot is shared with a womans club or hall and an activity center. They have a large baseball field and a few full basketball courts but not too much room for soccer. I wouldnt recommend throwing parties here but if u must there are two picnic areas but the bathrooms always seem closed. Our favorite time to go is during Spring, the park stays open late and there are a lot of kids playing baseball, softball, basketball and practicing soccer. The lights light up the fields but not the playground. I enjoy taking my kids here because it's conveniently close and stays open late. My only complaint is that there are a lot of teenagers who like to smoke weed. Nothing against weed but not in a park full of kids. This doesn't happen every time but it has happened before. read more

No refund on a karate class that was paid for 6 weeks we both disliked instructors and form after the first session. The kid ringing me up didn't know what he was doing and didn't have answers, it took FOREVER huge line behind me. They wouldnt let him view the class first. So paid before even getting to meet the teacher. The instructor even said they dont order a uniform till 3 classes in the case that they dont like it but either way if they dont return the 6 week fee its a bigger waste of money. Wont make this mistake again. Place down the street on oak WAY better! read more

Cardio Aerobic classes every Tue and Thurs, sometimes Fri. Classes are led by Becky, who is awesome. If you buy a 15 class pack, its only $45. At $3 a class, it is well worth it for an hour of training. The class is step aerobics, but it includes weights, and they focus on abs at the end. I was hesitant to take this class, but my fiance and I were interested in trying something new, and we were glad we tried this class. Check with the city website for more info, or just go inside and check the bulletin boards for more info. The park also offers Boot Camp workouts, Zumba, and other fitness programs. My friends and I are currently taking a bootcamp class at the recreation center. They offer different classes such as yoga, karate, jewelry making and much more. They also have a play room where children can stay and there is free adult supervision. read more

Much better and safer than years ago. I grew up going to this park in the 70's and I even took my kids here a lot. But in the late 90's I quit. Black kids assaulting my kids and robbing them was not cool. I went back after 18 years with my grandson and he had a lot of fun. I didn't see any riff raff in the basketball courts. read more
