Met up with friends for a late lunch at Hollywood Arms and had an excellent meal with very good service. We reserved a large table but had people that couldn't make it, however the staff was understanding and accommodating about moving us to a smaller table. They worked well with our need for a high chair and the food was delivered quickly. Hope to be back again soon. read more

This Young's pub, a few minutes' walk from Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, dates from 1865 and has a splendidly preserved facade and a spacious interior. I say pub, but it's clear from it's decor and layout - and the fact that tables can be booked - that it functions as much, if not more, as a sort of Bistro restaurant. The ground floor is divided into a three areas, all with lots of dark wood, and tables and chairs: the front area is decorated in a modern style, with plain dark red walls, and pictures of iconic film stars drawing on the 'Hollywood' theme; the middle bar area has green Arts & Crafts wallpaper, Victorian photographs and odd high tables with matching high two-person stools, upholstered in suede - positively scary to sit on if (like me) you have short legs. The bar frontage has elaborate gothic-style carving (but no bar stools). The cosier rear room has more Arts and Crafts wallpaper, this time with a heavy, red floral theme on the back wall. Upstairs is a huge single function room in the style of a grand drawing room, with its own bar, and a fireplace. I'm not sure this modern style of decor works with such an iconic pub interior - despite its sumptuousness, it still feels a bit soulless. A more traditional Victorian approach might work better, but that's a matter of taste. Oddly for such a large venue, there were only two real ales on tap - Young's Bitter, and Well's Bombardier - at £3.10 a pint... A quick look around revealed everyone else to be drinking wine, and indeed they have a wide range, from £3.70 to £5.50 for a 175ml glass, or from £14 to £29 a bottle. Well, that's what you get for being in the heart of Chelsea, I guess. Young, mostly male Doctors from the nearby hospital seemed to feature heavily among the clientele. On our visit, the pub felt eerily empty, despite having 20 or so customers, largely because each group of punters chose a different area to sit in, so we had the front room all to ourselves. The pub does food - although we didn't eat here. Others were still eating at 22h as they serve food until quite late. The menu ranges from burgers and other pub fare to more elaborate 'Modern British' cooking - specials on our visit included 'Parma-wrapped chicken breast stuffed with mozzarella and rocket served with red wine jus' for £11.50, with 'Orange polenta and ice cream' to follow at £4.95. A more straightforward alternative was the Vegetable soup and warm bread at £4.50. Tables can be booked. There is a magazine rack to browse, and air conditioning in the summer. There's a small sitting/smoking area at the front, open until 21.30h only. Overall, not a bad venue, and probably better for eating than a quick pint. But, if you are looking for a pub, then there are other, more down to earth, venues nearby. read more

The music is SO. LOUD. For no reason - it doesn't match the atmosphere at all. Both times I've been I couldn't hear the person sitting next to me. We asked to turn the music down a tad but noticed no difference. It really is a shame because it's a lovely pub otherwise. Dog friendly! read more

We went for nibbles and drinks after friends' civil ceremony. The canapés were all great, of which my favourite was the cauliflower soup (of sort) served in a shot glass. The drinks were generally good too, from wine selection to cocktails like hot toddy and Irish coffee. However, we did feel that the drinks were a bit pricey, so take note. Ambience was very nice. A great balance of pub meets tasteful decor, complete with quiet enough noise level to be able to hear one another. Service was generally prompt too. A recent jaunt to the Hollywood Arms left mixed feelings. It is both elegant and inelegant. Elegant for the stylish look of the place, the classy yet neo-traditional pub décor. And clean, though you could barely smell the cleanliness through the Febreze. Inelegant, however, through it's pomposity. The Hollywood Arms has respectable clientele, good beer, great food and capable staff but the trouble is, it knows this far too well and can rely on their current wealth of notoriety in the community. In a bizarre twist from the outside world, the Aviary (the room at the back of the pub where food is served which has been decorated to faintly resemble a birdcage) was colder than the street as the air conditioning unit was blowing meaning I had more reason to keep my coat on inside rather than when I was outside. Once comfortable in the Aviary we chose our meals from the menu, ordered at the bar and consumed. My dinner (grilled Hake on a bed of mange tout and some kind of mash which I've since forgotten plus some other kind of jus), though wonderful, was a little scant. For £15 I was wondering where the rest of my pub grub was but I can't complain about what I was served. It was impeccable. The staff were efficient if a bit cold. No smiles, they may reveal imperfections and the Hollywood Arms doesn't do imperfections, not from an outward perspective anyway. Smiles are too radiant, this place doesn't want radiance. It wants to keep it's glibness intact, that's the overruling appeal for the custodians, the glue between them and the decision makers. The Status Quo - and you won't hear those in hear either, which is actually a benefit. When amongst the models and business execs and - no doubt - agents you'll be unfortunate enough to eavesdrop on their shrill chatter. Maybe I was still fishing even after my dinner but the bland superficiality of it all was disappointingly predictable. Talk of mergers, of (apparently) unlikable colleagues but mostly of shops. The remark that sticks out in my mind was one I heard just as I was heading for the exit: "Oh my God! the amount of money you spend in Prada, when you say jump they should ask 'how high?'". Different circles, I guess. As a fitting finale I almost walked into a Porsche parked right outside. This summed up my feeling to the folks I had just meandered through to leave - as well as the staff - because the Hollywood Arms is also immaculate. Perfectly engineered to deliver quality, to reach for the stars but the greater comparison, the ultimate similarity is that the Porsche really doesn't care for my presence either. It gets by just fine in it's own world which is, of course, twinned with mine but we both know that we just don't quite belong together. I don't wish to sound too bitter, after all I loved the quality of food, the wine list is great and there are some good beers here (ironically, they're bitters). And who doesn't want to settle down in a clean, well presented pub? I do but the Hollywood Arms is a boozer I could never really care for, they're divided and I'm divisive. TTFN, Ian read more

Verdict: A pleasant watering hole in SK/Chelsea! Pros: - Prices for the location. - Spacious as well as elegant especially considering the fact it is divided in areas with different style and décor. - Very accommodating staff even though this place can get very crowded. - Good demographic mix/ratio. Cons: - LOUD! - Cocktails are my poison of choice and HA has more and better offers and selection on wine and beer. - Food is a little on the expensive side. My local! LOVE it! Haven't eaten, but always here - the staff are phenomenal, and while I hadn't gone THAT often years ago since Brinkleys next door has happy hour, the pricing here is literally better than happy hour if you're doing bottles, or cocktails even (cheaper than elsewhere on regular pricing). For years a slightly grubby but appealing local boozer with an ace little garden, the Hollywood was refurbed a few years ago and, while it's all now nice and squeaky clean, one can't help feeling that a little of the magic is gone. There's a good beer selection, including well-kept ales, and super-friendly staff. Peanuts at £2.70 a little pot? Err... thanks, but I'll bring my own (secretly). Lots of lovely people here, with nice teeth, so that's good. High Hooray Quota. They have a selection of games, and big screens and a lovely upstairs room for functions, etc. What makes it remarkable? Nothing, really. But it's OK. read more

I was positively surprised by this place, and definitely consider myself a fan. Went here on a date, and tried a bunch of their foods and desserts, including the pork belly (holy mother) and the duck, and the sticky toffee pudding, which is usually reason enough to go out in the first place. The drinks were also good but unremarkable - the only downer for me was the ambience: not posh Chelsea and not cozy pub, but a weird mix of both that didn't quite work, almost like it was unsure of its identity. Popped into this place to meet a work colleague after a few hospital appointments and I was extremely happy to have done - large because the vegetarian food options were fantastic!! More than one veggie dish on the menu - in fact a whole section. I went for a wild mushroom, spinach and cheese Wellington with roasted veg and a sorrel foam and it was superb! Good veggie pub good that doesn't consist of an over fried veggie burger - a big big YES!!! The decor was also very pleasing. What looked like an old Victorian house refurbed to look like a nice saloon (not Wild West!!), high ceilings and comfortable seats. Not overly and garishly decorated. I would definitely come back. The reason I have knocked know star is because the food prices were a little on the expensive side - my main was £12.50 and my colleague didn't like his chips which he suspected were not thrice fried, but I would see pop back for a drink another time to give it another go. Food and drinks are superb!! I got served by a lovely chap called Lewis and he gave excellent hospitality. I've also met the head chef, Anna which gave me a little heart made of ketchup in my burger meal and that was so sweet! Deffo coming back as the people are so lovely and dandy!!! My wife and I stopped in on a rainy Wed afternoon for drinks. We enjoyed the bright space and the comfy couch. They have some great beers on tap and a good selection of wine. The upstairs looked to have a private party room that was being used. We didn't eat but the menu looked very appetizing. The bartender was friendly too. The only downsides were not having a drink menu and the couch was comfortable to sit in but had a awful smell of rot. read more

This place is pretty lively for a little corner pub. It's next to another place, which combined- makes for a pretty popular destination, it seems. I actually found this place while drinking a pint at another establishment and happened to see an attractive girl walk by. I enquired how well she walked on the uneven ground in her heels and we began a nice little chat. She ended up inviting me to go with her to Hollywood Arms where she was meeting some friends. So I went. Not wanting to be a creeper, I walked up to the bar while she went to say hello to her friends. The first thing I tell the guy is I'm on vacation from California and would like to try his recommendation for a great local beer. You know what he tells me? "Actually, the best beer I'd recommend is Sierra Nevada." I look at him like I'm watching a monkey bake a cake, pondering his wisdom, before saying, "yeah bro, I'm from the same place that's brewed; how about something brom Bavaria, Scotland, or hell, right here in Her Majesty's backyard." So he pours me a pint of a delicious ale and I get to chatting with a nice young fellow from who cares. After a few moments, it happens. A cute little Londoner hears my "accent" and asks where I'm from. My reply leads into wonderful conversation about nothing important and I decide to walk away when she asks me if I think the Illuminati is real or not. I've seen the Twilight series, but I'd feel covered in pedo filth if I had a discussion about it in a bar drinking beer. Basically what I saw here is a popular spot for girls to meet up with friends in the evening, before the ratio starts to equalize midway through the night and as always; tip to being guy heavy later on. Went here for the first time a few months ago, way before it even featured on Made in Chelsea. its a nice little place, cosy, nice atmosphere, great place for the dogs to relax in too. Drinks prices are expensive, but thats expected in an area like that. Convenient parking on Sundays too. Nice friendly staff, would go back. read more

One of the most popular pubs in the area, and a hit with the Sloaney crowd. It gets seriously busy so if you are after the Friday night vibe this is a good pub to go to. It has a decent selection of drinks at competitive prices. The pub is well laid out and it has an upstairs area which not many people know about and which is available for hire. In my humble opinion there are better pubs in the area, but people do know this one and it is reasonably buzzy so it is often the venue of choice for the area. From time to time you do bump into some argumentative and arrogant clientele goes with the territory I think. read more

This place is one of the sloaniest places in Fulham/Chelsea, so personally not quite my cup of tea. It is rather soulless and very much has the atmosphere of a gastro pub . However, they do have a very very nice private room upstairs for parties which is just like someone's (fancy) living room. There is a fireplace and lots of sofas and it has a warm, welcoming feeling to it and its own bar area! The downstairs bit (i.e. the main area) can get extremely packed, especially on weekends when people tend to spill out onto the street where you have no choice but to linger on the pavement, drink in hand as there is absolutely nowhere to sit down outside. read more

The acoustics are horrible making conversation virtually impossible. Clientele is convinced that they are young and hip but playing house music at 9pm really loud makes enjoying this establishment difficult. Wanting a £100 deposit for reserving a table for 8 people? Really? they are just a pub, obviously they think more of themselves then the establishment provides. We won't be back nor recommend to others. read more

One of the funniest place I have been to in the area. Nothing special about the place, the staff, the food (I haven't tried), the drinks (only had beers), but the CROWD makes it for all. This place has been featured in made in Chelsea I heard, don't know the show and if it is true but man this place is good at people watching. People from the area gather there on week nights and weekends to have a drink - some get really shit faced - inside/outside. Place can become quite wild with lots of flashy and some real or not posh people stopping by. You see people tumbling, rolling on the floor, screaming, passing away drunk wearing Burberry jackets, Louis Vuitton handbag, guys it is the best you can experience in Chelsea. And remember, everything happens before midnight. Overall it is a perfect destination to look at locals, like if at the beach, while benefiting from a party atmosphere where everybody seems to be looking to hook with one another.
