I had my second son at home, water home birth, and it was amazing experience especially after having my first son 11 months prior at the hospital. Ada and the front desk staff are so kind and helpful. And midwife Mimi was so engaging full of energy in all the appointments we had. She always had an answer to my Concerns and took her time with me in every appointment and even was patient when I would take my baby to the appointments and would sometimes help me out with him. Her tips were always on point. She is very smart and knows what she is doing. As for the birth her and midwife assistant and doula Dawna made my birth so soothing and encouraged me so much in the moments I felt I was going to give up. My mom and husband who at first were so scared of me having a home birth enjoyed so much the experience and now are advocates of homebirths.

My baby was given to me immediately and I was able to hold her for 30minutes before they have to tAke her for new born exam.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRACTICE: They could not perform ultrasounds when I went, requiring visits to the associated OB or even the ER in urgent situations. Spent 4 hours and tons of tears in the ER because heartbeat was not detected due to this lack of in-office capability. All my medical concerns and discomfort during pregnancy were repeatedly dismissed and met with "pregnancy is uncomfortable", basically deal with it. This led to missed and delayed diagnoses, including unmanaged levels and late-detected anemia. Insensitive comments about my weight had me feeling body-shamed during pregnancy. I was once asked if I noticed the beautiful thin pregnant patient in waiting room because she was great! During my quick labor and once she actually acknowledged my pain, asking if I wanted epidural, it was too late. At one point, she yelled at me to shut up. My postpartum appointment was impersonal; she did not remember basic details about me and also asked the gender of my child she had just delivered. It was laughed off as she was so busy, how could she remember them all. The associated OB she must work with to overlook her patients, Dr. Cantero, provided rushed, impersonal care. We received quick ultrasounds without much explanation or even time to enjoy the experience. He left the room so fast once, leaving the door wide open while I was reclined half naked in the chair needing help to get up. Worst of all, he incorrectly gave us our baby's gender ensuring he was "99% sure." I still STRONGLY advise choosing a qualified OB over midwifery, especially if complications or health concerns arise. Nelly lacked empathy (possibly the knowledge) and care to send me high-risk help in my situation. With such great reviews on both providers, I felt the need to leave my honest, detailed experience hoping it helps someone. High ratings don't always mean high quality, especially when those reviews lack detail.

I had a home birth, Carol was my midwife and Renee was her assistant, they were extremely professional and Carol is such an amazing midwife, experienced and knowledgeable. I had a healthy and strong baby, my first baby at 37 after 12 hrs labor work and she didn't even have to stitch me up, I had a speedy recovery and my baby is a month already. Carol also educated me with breastfeeding. I'm so grateful I found them, I'll miss them for sure!

Absolutely amazing!…read more I cannot say enough about every aspect of their operation, from the kind knowledgable staff to the classes and overall information they provided. My wife really wanted a different birthing experience as we originally started off at a OBGYN office and were not happy with the basic care provided. Many times people get very nervous with using a birthing center over a hospital but after your first visit with them this will all go out the door. They provide you with so much more information and care than other provider's and truly make it a whole new level of experience. They go far beyond the basic care a typical provider gives. They focus on the mothers overall health (since it greatly effects the baby), from their diet, how much they are being active, how much knowledge they have, and give you so many resources/exercises to prepare your body for the process. Versus a normal practice where they just give you basic care and handle things as they come up at birth vs being preventive from the start. This experience was everything my wife wanted and more. Being first time parents we were very nervous coming into the process but are beyond ecstatic with the experience and the amazing staff at this center. If your plan is to have a natural birth then this is undoubtedly the place for you.

My husband and I came to TGP just for information on hospital birth and ended up being blessed in so many ways by the employees there. After meeting and becoming informed by Michelle, one of the owners, we decided to hire a doula in order to have assistance during the birth of our first baby. Their doula services come at different prices in order to ensure that everyone from varying financial backgrounds can have access to this vital service. Our doula, Florencia, was a rock for us during the birth. She kept me focused and ensured that I got the birth that I wanted for baby and me. All the doula services come with access to three very informative classes. Take advantage of these and their very knowledgeable team! We learned so much and met other families going through this experience. It was wonderful. I can't say enough and express how grateful I am to these ladies. They made the community real for me when I didn't think it possible. I had arranged to have the two female doctors at the practice I used be available to assist my birth. The day I went into labor, my doctor and her backup became unavailable. Leaving me to their male doctor who had been particularly unkind to me at previous visits. I was a wreck laboring thinking he would be at the delivery. My doula contacted the owners at TGP and they made magic happen. Through their help I was seen and had my baby delivered at the hospital by an amazing midwife. My situation may not be common but their assistance was amazing and made the community of women empowering child birth real to me. It goes without saying my husband and I couldn't be more grateful for their services. Our little baby boy was born healthy, naturally, and drug free this past May.

At 34 weeks, my doula contacted me via EMAIL to inform me she was moving out of state and no longer able to attend my birth or provide postpartum support. Frantically I tried to find a new doula but at that point there weren't many options and I did not have anytime to build rapport. They gave me an alternate doula who was listed as a level I (I paid for level IV) and then tried to suggest that their website was not up to date. They were also impossible to get in touch with and only communicated by text and email. I ended up not being able to have any doula support at very complicated early induction due to preeclampsia where I ended up having every intervention under the sun short of a c section to make sure my daughter could be safely delivered. My daughter just came home from nicu and I have no postpartum support - my family does not live near me and with the covid resurgence they are not able to come - another reason why I wanted a doula. The kicker is, the Gathering Place won't even give me a full refund after all of this. If having a doula is an important part of your birth plan or postpartum plan, I would highly recommend going elsewhere to ensure you actually have one when your baby actually arrives.

I am expecting my second child and at a different birth center now, in a different state and while discussing my current birth plan with my midwife, I explained to her my experience in Miami with your Hallandale location and how I would hope that no one would ever or has ever had to experience this. I came to A Birth Center and went through months of check ups with midwife Deborah. I would say everything was fine until the day my water broke at 37 weeks. As discussed, I stayed in contact hours following until Deborah advised me to come to the birth center for my antibiotics (due to GB positive). When I arrived at the Birth Center, she told me to instead go to the hospital and she would meet me there. No problem. Keywords, she would meet me there soon. I arrived at Memorial Regional Hospital and the hospital and was immediately given pitocin. My contractions began to soar. My mother and husband were by my side but as hours went by, still no Birth Center staff, midwife nor doula showed up ( as promised). We called and called and excuses were made and I was told they'd be on their way. Deborah still hasn't made it. Midnight came and went and I was in agony and scared. Hospital nurses came in with papers for me to consent to Cesarean, as I expected they would because they wanted to speed things up. I screamed and begged for them to move those papers out of my face and they tried to convince me to just sign them. Had I signed them, I am sure they would have wheeled me upstairs for surgery. Still, where is my midwife and doulas? Where are you!! I was alone. No advocate. My husband and mother was there but I still felt confused. Around 8am in the morning the pain was unbearable so I asked for epidural. One thing I hoped not to have. I wanted a natural vaginal birth and if My midwife were present she could have ensured or at least guided that. But they weren't. I was at hospital staff's mercy and they wanted me to do surgery for no reason other than to save time. Thank Goodness I opted for epidural because minutes after the epidural was administered, it's as if my body was able to relax and my daughter began to slide out of my pelvis. Deborah's Husband ( the Obgyn) waltzed into the room at that very moment and caught my baby. He smelled of alcohol and seemed drunk. Thank God nonetheless. I was happy to see him but he was unprepared and snipped the umbilical cord immediately -which was another aspect against my birth plan. I'd specified over and over to Midwife Deborah that I wanted to delay the cutting and hold my baby until the cord stopped pumping. I was just devastated. And he downplayed it and laughed it off. I asked him where was his wife and why she'd never showed up or any Birth Center staff, he said something to the effect that she was tied up. Furthermore, when I returned days later to the BC with my newborn, I asked Deborah myself and her excuse nonchalant. I can't even recall what it was. I was also informed that the BC misdiagnosed me as having RH negative blood and the Rhogam I was given early on was an error and the bloodwork was misconstrued. But that also was downplayed and I was told Rhogam wasn't harmful so I'd be okay. This was a mess. I was turned off by the treatment following my baby's birth. It's as if staff changed and was no longer welcoming. Life happens and this always bothered me and the current birth center I am attending Cannot believe this treatment and lack of care. I'm thankful that through all that stress, my daughter was delivered healthy and naturally. It's a lesson learned. I hope that the center has gotten better since then.
