I visited on a Tuesday after work on my way home after a thunderstorm. I was one of 3 visitors there but they welcomed me with open arms. The head priest greeted me and is very friendly and told me what to do: After removing my shoes and socks, washed my hands and placed a head scarf (available if you did not bring one), you proceed to the main area to pray. No cell phones at that point so I didn't take any pictures. I sat down on the soft carpet and prayed. The Sikh temple is open to everyone, which I love religions who accept anyone so I will pray to whoever will listen to my prayers. Felt really good especially during these trying times. Then he told me to come eat. I was actually surprised because I thought meals were only served on Sundays, which he told me is their liveliest day so come from 11-2. There was Basmati rice, naan bread and a curry of potatoes, onions and peas. I then sat on the floor mat and thoroughly enjoyed my surprise meal peacefully. Chai tea and water is also available and I was able to get seconds too. Always good practice to provide a donation of any kind to pay it forward and for good karma. There is a little donation box near the food and a huge calendar for people to sign up for meal prep. Highly recommend visiting anytime! I parked on the neighboring streets nearby. read more

Had a great Sunday morning there. A friendly lady helped me to cover my head, because I didn't know how to use the provided cloth. The artists were amazing! They could sing for 2 hours without any break. I missed the real langar meal, as I thought those snacks were the meals. Too full to have the real meal when they were served. I will come again sometime. This is a great place to experience a different culture and religion. read more

Everyone else pretty much covered it. :-) Come on a Sunday between 11-2 ish. Wear something modest and bring something to cover your head. Take off your shoes and put them in the cubby holes by the entrance. Wash your hands. Walk into the main room up to the holy book (Guru Granth Sahib ji), put a donation if you wish, kneel (you can easily watch others do it and copy what they're doing if you are unsure), and then kneel down next to the volunteer who hands out prashad (a delicious ball of pudding made wheat flour, clarified butter, and sugar. Receive it with both of your hands cupped and begin eating as you go find a seat on your side of the room (seating is separated by sex) and listen to the kirtan (music). There are projectors that show you what they're singing about in Punjabi and in English so you can read along if you like. Afterward go eat a delicious, free lunch in the other hallway on the floor with the other worshippers. Awesome and relaxing way to spend a Sunday! read more

Come on, how can you give less than 5 stars to any place of worship? They have services on Sunday from around 11 am till 2 pm, but it is open all day on Sunday, so you can go anytime. They also have a Friday evening service around 7-9 pm. The temple is open all week until around 8 or 9 pm and all weekend even though there is no service, but you can go in and still admire, and the priests will likely offer you some chai and sweets during non-service times. They are good people. Some things you should know: 1. All Sikh temples on our planet accept EVERYONE, especially this one smack in the middle of Los Feliz. Sometimes you see more non Sikhs than Sikh at the temple. So don't be shy and come and join the group to learn more about them and get free Indian food (Langar). You don't need to be Sikh to enter, and they won't try to convert you, so relax. 2. When you come in, to the right of the lobby you will see shoe cubby holes, place your shoes in there, wash your hands at the sink, and then grab a scarf to borrow and cover your head. 3. Walk out of the shoe area and make a right, go into the main congregation hall (Darbar Sahib). Enjoy the hymns (Kirtan) and sometimes they will have the English translation available on the projector wall. 4. After enjoying the music, exit the hall and make a right into the free kitchen (Langar Hall). During service times you will be treated to free Indian food. Everyone sits together on the floor and enjoys a nice warm meal. 5. If you would like, you can leave a donation, like a few bucks, but it's not required. Nobody will notice or care, quite frankly, but I always give a few dollars when I'm there. 6. Talk to the folks there. They are very nice and love to answer questions. You will see a mix of all types of people there, from truck drivers to USC students filling up on food, and all sorts of people to answer your questions. read more

Like the people who recites shayad and path. Main Head granthi is very educated and very polite. He talks and give lessons on how to be involve with God and how be thankful to God for everything we have. I try to go there before 12:30pm to listen to him. Sometimes the committee people call other kirtaniye(group of people who recite gurbani & shabads). It is very nice to see people of your religion together. Since I live little far for the Gurudwara so whenever I visit I feel so good and refresh. The langar is very delicious everytime. read more

No one here speaks English so be warned haha. Upon entering you remove your shoes and both male and females are required to have head covered. Its open everyday I believe although I don't know the hours. Sunday service is at 3pm. You come in kneel at the shrine and bow. You also place a donation there if you wish. You can listen to the Kirtans (spiritual songs). And meditate! After you are done you can take food at the langar (kitchen? Food? :) It is always delicious. I guess this place is just for worship. They won't teach you about Sikhism if that's what you want, but everyone is welcome. read more

I love coming here. When I'm missing family, I come here to be surrounded by friendly people. No one cares about the color of your skin, or your religious background. That is the one amazing thing about Sikhism. They DO NOT try and convert you (it's against their belief's) and they are accepting of everyone. Feel free to leave a a donation. You don't have to, but it's only polite, as they've got to pay the bills too. There is always free food there, and all are welcome. 1-25-2019, I'm not Sikh, not Indian, don't spreak Panjabi, came here to get rid of my "Ego" because I'm having trouble outside with people shaming me claiming I am doing all kinds of bad things & a "bad" person which (those people have mental issues) so I am trying to not think about "them" & trying to think about "God" and fill my head with pleasant thoughts & continue doing my life without negative thoughts & trying to focus on "attraction" behaviors. I find that doing free service without expectation (a form of meditation), such as serving food, washing dishes, volunteer work here has helped me a lot. Being treated as being inconspicuous (which outside I'm always a conspicuous target due to my race, or name, or age or whatever racism) I feel safe here. The 3 priests as I call them (nickname) ignore me enough that I like being treated like I'm not special meaning I won't get attacked or screamed at by the sane 3 priests or any of the Indian people here. This is a place to be with God and no man or men will attack any women. It's not a "singles group" so I won't get kicked out since I'm not single. I am trying to lose weight and they don't nag me to eat "meat" because they don't eat "flesh". Eating vegetarian food I get a lot of support from them. I love Indian food and their Indian food boy they know how to cook vegetarian Indian food. The eggplant dish & another dish the mushroom dish (mushrooms are expensive) all for free. Donations are welcome & people who are rich or can afford to support pay for the electricity, water, toilet paper, soap, paycheck of the 3 priests & kitchen manager as I call him who live there on campus. They work many hours like "workaholic" I think they wake up at 3:00 a.m. until closing like 8:00 p.m., so they don't get paid enough, I don't think they have 401K or I.R.A. or Keough account. I think they don't get paid enough, depends on donations mostly from rich people (too busy to show up during prayer meditation hours). So if the temple closes down I think they will go homeless. They are not allowed to drink alcohol, no gambling, no sex (if not married), no t.v., no porn of course, no swearing or profanity, no drugs illegal or drug abuse. Please wash your hands with the water, cover the head with fabric offered, take off shoes, Please be clean come in with clean clothes, clean body (don't smell like you are homeless), clean fingernails, & quiet no screaming or fighting zone, & bow before entering the prayer room, Langar is the dining hall & it is first come first serve. Come early to make sure you get a bit of everything. Priests eat last and they wait in line like every "Joe" & volunteers eat last & serve the food to everyone else first. If the food runs out the volunteers are not supposed to eat. Often times they eat when it gets slow and appears that the line is gone. If you have any problems with individuals tell them "shhee" be quiet. And walk away. It's almost as quiet as a library but people do talk but don't talk to anyone about "drama" because they are trying to eat lunch or dinner. If you come in angry or especially in a rage no one will listen to you then you need to take it outside because it is an outside issue because no one here is a therapist or psychiatrist there is no one here that will harm you. Past issues with outside people from your past you have to get help outside. They will teach you to walk away from abusive people outside of this place. read more

Come for the music, it is divine! For some it will be an acquired taste, but take the time to listen and you will feel deeply uplifted. Sikh spiritual programs are mostly music and if you come at 10:00 AM on Sunday your will hear Asa De Var, as it is played there every Sunday morning - it never gets boring, but better as you become more familiar with it. Most of the musicians are professionals, who have had years of training in Sikh music. They are wonderful to listen to and sing with. The majority of people attending are Indian but they welcome all and Americans, like myself, feel comfortable being there. You sit on the floor, (there is a bench in the back for those who cannot sit on the floor), so wear clothing that is comfortable for floor sitting. A head covering is required and you can bring your own or wear a scarf that is provided. Plan to give a donation; how much is up to you. If you like Indian food, you can enjoy the meal that starts being served around 12:00 PM. However, the real 'food' is the music as it feeds and nourishes your soul.
