There's not too many Hindu temples in the state. I see Islamic mosques in the U.S. more than I can find a good East Asia Indian Hindu temple. Not huge, but there's plenty of great photo spots all around the temple. Employees are all friendly, welcoming, and set a great first hand impression of the experiences. Exterior and interior of buildings are worth walking around. When you enter the main gate for free parking, assistant gives you a small map of the site in advance. Note, Visitors can take photos inside the visitor center area, but no cameras, photography, or shoes are allowed in the main temple attraction site. No large backpacks, but I was able to bring my small hat/cap with me. I didn't wear it inside the temple though. Take off shoes and store them in the shelves available right before walking up the long stairs. Cover up/check dress code restrictions in advance. Good vibes all around. Inside the main temple were people praying/meditating. Very cold temperatures and echoing noise can easily be heard inside. White detailed sculptures are amazing. Indian culture is religious. Respect Hindu vibes. It's a great feeling walking around and you can check out other parts of the temple/museum. Great place for selfies and beautiful pictures for sure. Love it.

Lost Shoes, Found Enlightenment…read more Visited the beautiful BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir and was truly impressed. The Hindu temple is absolutely stunning, the architecture is extraordinary, with intricate carvings made from Italian Carrara marble and Indian pink sandstone. It's on a apx 20 acres site. It took about five years to build, and knowing that so many volunteers helped create it with love and devotion makes it even more meaningful. Since the temple is located in an earthquake zone, I learned it also incorporates modern seismic protection technology beneath the structure, which is fascinating. The museum is definitely worth visiting as well. One unexpectedly spiritual experience happened at the shoe area. Someone apparently "borrowed" my shoes by mistake. For a brief moment, I thought perhaps I was being tested on detachment from worldly possessions. But then ... miracle of miracles ... the shoes mysteriously returned. My theory is either karma worked at lightning speed... or the person discovered that my shoes were not nearly as comfortable or fashionable as expected. Either way, I gratefully walked home with enlightenment... and my shoes.

I visited on a Tuesday after work on my way home after a thunderstorm. I was one of 3 visitors…read morethere but they welcomed me with open arms. The head priest greeted me and is very friendly and told me what to do: After removing my shoes and socks, washed my hands and placed a head scarf (available if you did not bring one), you proceed to the main area to pray. No cell phones at that point so I didn't take any pictures. I sat down on the soft carpet and prayed. The Sikh temple is open to everyone, which I love religions who accept anyone so I will pray to whoever will listen to my prayers. Felt really good especially during these trying times. Then he told me to come eat. I was actually surprised because I thought meals were only served on Sundays, which he told me is their liveliest day so come from 11-2. There was Basmati rice, naan bread and a curry of potatoes, onions and peas. I then sat on the floor mat and thoroughly enjoyed my surprise meal peacefully. Chai tea and water is also available and I was able to get seconds too. Always good practice to provide a donation of any kind to pay it forward and for good karma. There is a little donation box near the food and a huge calendar for people to sign up for meal prep. Highly recommend visiting anytime! I parked on the neighboring streets nearby.

They could sing for 2 hours without any break. I missed the real langar meal, as I thought those snacks were the meals. Too full to have the real meal when they were served. I will come again sometime. This is a great place to experience a different culture and religion.
