I been to Bridge City Church twice with today and I feel in my heart I have found my church. I assisted 2 churches in the past and had decided to not try anymore but after 8 years decided to give Bridge City Church a try I am completely at awe with this church. My daughter is registered at a kiosk and a "Dream Team" member takes her to her very own kids class while I enjoy the Sunday service, I am still getting to know the church but so far I am absolutely happy to be able to attend to this amazing church. The staff is so welcoming. I feel WELCOMED at Bridge City Church and I my daughter feels loved and at home. ‍ We have found OUR church. *WROTE THIS ON FB ON APRIL 28 2019* HAVE NOT CHANGED MY OPINION I absolutely love the environment that is bridge city for my daughter and me in this time I have grown in my faith and my daughter as well we have been baptized and now with Covid we have gone virtual online and still the pastors manage to be there for us when we need a prayer I recommend visiting bridge city online it will really feel like a breathe of fresh air!. As I am now a resident in a senior living community and don't drive I haven't been back to Hughes…read morefor over 8 years. BUT I was a member of the the church for the prior 50 years. I participated on finance and trustee committees. I also was an officer with the women's group. We worked for the church and for the Board of Child Care located in Baltimore. We held rummage sales which helped buy the kitchen appliances. Faith is very important but so is commitment for a place to come to worship and care about each other, support each other in sickness and when death is coming. My son attended Sunday school at Hughes (he's almost eligible for social security so that tells you how long ago it was) My husband was buried from Hughes. Faith is important but there are the "no fun" jobs of the keeping the building, etc. from declining.

My…read morefaith is very much what has shaped me and Hughes United Methodist Church has been instrumental in developing this. Although I must sheepishly admit that I don't attend services consistently, Hughes was not just a church for me when I was growing up, it was a community of warmth. My very first time at Hughes, I was just a toddler. I was christened here, confirmed here, was an acolyte, in the handbell choir and also very active in the church's various youth groups. The number one message that I've taken with me from Hughes, is to treat others as you would like to be treated. I've pretty much applied this in just about every area of my life and it's kind of my golden rule. I've also seen how much Hughes will rally to help and support those that are part of the greater Hughes community. Services are in a relaxed atmosphere and although church attendance is a bit down, the heart is still there.

First let me say: I don't like church. It is not my thing. But THIS church ... well, this church…read moremakes me feel like going to church. It's not a huge congregation but it is unbelievably welcoming - and not in that fake-smile way that you find in some churches. This place feels warm and GENUINE and kind. Pastor Michael is literally the most fun I've ever had at church - and so sweet. He's honest from the pulpit about his own imperfections, and funny and kind in a way that is both refreshing and entertaining. "Preaching" takes on a whole new meaning at Pilgrim Church. Plus there's a lot going on in the community, and they have a bustling Sunday School for the kids. There's nothing lurking in the corners at Pilgrim Church. I found them online when the UMC church started to split and no longer felt welcoming. Pilgrim Church is welcoming to EVERYone, from the Rainbow flag at the doorway to celebrations of various (not just Christian) holidays and openness between its regular attendees. It's just a really pleasant place to be. Not like "church" at all.

I could not have known how fortunate I was to find Pilgrim! The congregation is welcoming, smart, diverse and caring, the theology is progressive and thoughtful, and mission opportunities, both local and elsewhere, abound. Rev. Jenn is a truly gifted preacher. Her sermons help make the Bible meaningful and relevant in today's world. Even my nonbeliever husband (who is openly welcomed without proselytizing) enjoys her sermons and finds something compelling in her words. Sunday School is contemporaneous with worship and there's a good mix of Bible stories and fun, related activities. It's great to see the kids form friendships and accept newcomers with a generous heart. The music is outstanding for a smallish church - hymns are traditional (which I love) but the anthems sung by the choir (including solo performances from time to time) are far ranging from gospel to contemporary selections. Bible study is held on Friday mornings and every other Thursday evening. Co-led by Rev. Jenn and Rev. Mike, each attracts an enthusiastic core group (including non-Pilgrims) and the discussions are wide-ranging and interesting. A monthly Young Adult Happy Hour facilitates socializing and parents can bring kids for a movie and pizza in the library while catching up with friends. In months with a fifth Sunday, the service is abbreviated and folks head to the fellowship hall to undertake quick mission opportunities, such as putting together backpacks of pajamas, books and toiletries for foster children or writing letters of encouragement and support for LGBTQ inmates. If you're looking for a church that encourages your spiritual growth without telling you how to think, this is a great place to land.

This Sunday was the Corpus Christi Processional and Blessing in front of the church at the end of 9:30 am mass. The activity was a very spiritually uplifting event for the members of the church. This congregation's base membership is the family's of the children attending the Holy Cross Catholic School. The children regularly participate in many religious activities here. My grandkids were part of the Christmas concert. It was such a great crowd pleaser. The children are also regularly asked to go up to alter as a group for special spiritual messages during the sermon. If socializing is very important to you there is always coffee and donuts after the 9:30 am service. There is also the friendly well wishing by the priest as the congregation exists the church. This Sunday the school's music director made a direct appeal to the families for new people to join the church choir when it resumes in the fall. If you are looking for a welcoming church where you can meet new families, make new friends in the community and receive spiritual support and guidance you might want to give Holy Cross a try! Until next time be kind to each other. @yelpdc #holycrosschurch #holycrossschool
