Quick look rating: 4/5 Experience…read more ***To Note: I do not go to this school or have gone to this school, but I can tell what I have observed from voting here at this school. *Pro's: ~ When I have run by I have seen a coach out here, instructing his group on to do different running drills that are top notch on building speed with the twitch muscles. This instruction made me take a strong notice on the positive view of this school. ~ To the north of the school, their athletic grounds keep improving in upgrades! Big plus in my view is the constant improvement in the kids physical programs investment in time and energy! ~ I noticed they have an outdoor eating area, it is fenced area, which I view as healthy keeping the kids away from any drug trafficking. ~ I like that they have a ROTC program. It gives the chance to advance in our national programs. ***It's difficult for me to really rate this school. I only go here to vote. Will I return? Yes, I am only coming back, but only to vote. Well, I am concerned about your future and the folks who make the decisions for us, so Yes, I'll be back to help VOTE on those on the folks that make a difference in our life!

**DO NOT PUT YOUR CHILD(REN) IN THIS SCHOOL**…read more Where do I begin... I transferred my daughter from a different school district to this school because we moved & I just knew from the beginning this was about to be the worst experience ever! Let me start with the staff. As a parent who's child attends here I feel some of the staff is not set out to teach so that the students learn. I feel that they are either there for a check or there to teach and belittle the students. I do not feel some of the counselors ensure their portion of the students are on track WHEN THEY encounter an error. I feel they simply think "hum...oh well." Their phone system SUCKS!! The call drops after their ringing music plays after a few seconds and it seems as if NO ONE EVER answers the counselors line! I feel this school needs TOTAL RESTRUCTURE!! I am furious that they have someone teaching math that barely speaks English and you had the audacity to have the same teacher teaching in summer school!! How can any monolingual child learn that way? I know my daughter will not be attending this school next year and I sent positive energy to every student/parent who attends this school.

This mix is unique, you won't find it at other schools. The social skills and friendships formed are as impressive as the academics. Speaking of that, The Dallas Morning News recently published that Woodrow is #1 in academic gains in Dallas. The school was redesigned three years ago into four college prep academies which offer AP and IB (International Baccalaureate). Woodrow and its feeder, J. L. Long Middle School, are the only two IB schools in Dallas. Transfers for those out of the attendance zone are available with applications starting in January. Unlike DISD magnets, Woodrow offers the full range of athletic and extracurricular activities. It is the quintessential American high school experience. The Lakewood area is a bit like a small town and many generations have attended the school resulting in many traditions and an extensive alumni network. My only gripe would be that the principal, going into his third year, is a little to strict on spirit and pep rallies. He does attend most sporting events, however. Overall, it's a great school and a true oasis of education in DISD.

Moving them from Lamplighter was very timely as they were craving structured environments that had rigorous academics. I am thrilled that they have been able to pursue their passions - including theater, sports, volunteerism, so many clubs, and leadership opportunities. Don't let the small class size fool you, it is a blessing! There are tons of opportunities for growth and they encourage the students to shine based on their own merits. Contrary to that negative yelp post from way too many years ago (P.S. You can't blame a child's drug habit on the school. That's called observant & disciplined parenting), the administration keeps a close eye on the students and alerts the parents quickly to concerns or behavior shifts. I can confidently say that we have parented in partnership with the school to raise smart, respectful, creative, athletic, well-balanced students. And Lakehill's focus on college prep is indeed a strength. The college counselor Ms. Dondis is a highly acclaimed professional - even a sought after expert speaker in her field. We specifically looked at Lakehill because it offered nondenominational education with so many opportunities in a nurturing, structured environment with a solid academic track record. 5 Stars for great academics, sports, a great community of involved parents, and a caring administration!

He is…read morevery happy to go to school, participate in sports and service projects, and make and keep what are sure to be long time friendships, all of which are long term benefits of a smaller, private school education. I feel as though he is a mature, respectful, well-prepared middler who I expect to achieve a very sold, college readiness experience. In terms of technology, the school does use lots - iPads, laptops, labs..... fairly typical of what I expect from a school such as this. The most important part of my observation is that he is happy and likes to go to school. I'm impressed. When I lived and taught in Dallas, I had no idea what this school was until a colleague left my school to teach there. That was 1997 - and he is STILL THERE! Since then another friend left his school to teach there. At this point it got my attention. Then they hired a marketing director, and the school started appearing more and more in the paper - like a LOT. Service projects became popular and a mainstay, and it was clear there was a strategic plan executed that included some serious "play," which has paid off; all of these things, my nephew participated in. It's a best kept secret for sure. From a community member perspective, living in the Lakewood area was a good experience, and I was able to participate in their fund raisers (Trek For Tech, among others), even though I didn't have kids in the school. Overall, if you are looking for a private school, you may be immediately enamored with the "big 5 (St. Marks, Cistercian, ESD, Hockaday, and Ursuline), and there are HUGE merits to each of them, but Lakehill prep is not to be missed.

My daughter acted immediately to inform the AP and share her witnesses. Once home she also informed her parents. However, I was never notified by the school. The next morning I arrived to talk to the AP who acknowledged his error in not informing us (however, this lack of communication continued as I had to consistently follow-up). The AP shared my daughters account of the situation was accurate. I stated given the hateful nature of intimidation and bullying, the child should be removed from my daughters classes as well as receive out of school suspension. Neither occurred. The overarching theme in the handling of this has been to dismiss and ignore. The messaging to my daughter and our family has been- its okay. As an adult female who has lived in several parts of the country I have NEVER had this experience- yet, while at HPMS, my 13 yr old daughter has. For the record, this behavior is UNACCEPTABLE. Given the lack of response and concern, this behavior will not only continue at HPMS but fester. It is apparent the safety of their students- both mentally and physically- is not a priority and I will be removing my daughter from the district.

I have the unique perspective of being a parent of two children in different learning classroom…read moreenvironments. My children also have experienced transitioning from one environment to the next due to age and readiness of skills. Here's a few examples of what I love about my children attending Park Cities Montessori in their crucial early years of life. The skill set of building concentration on one activity and putting it away before moving on to the next is huge. It teaches a sense of order, helps build patience and perseverance within a task, as well as learning how to take turns and wait until the work becomes available. No matter what activity the children engage in, there is a focus on the process and the beauty of slowing down. There is also ample opportunities for the children to experience nature. There is the crucial benefit to circle time and singing with one another and building camaraderie with one another as a class family. Zero screen time is a huge piece of what makes PCM great because it encourages children to use their imagination and engage in exploration when boredom arises. The practical life skills that my children have developed is incredible. When out in public, the amount of strangers that compliment the table manners our children have at such a young age is a testament to the time they spend at PCM. We put the work in at home, but it is with the guidance and advice from PCM that has led us down such a successful path. Plus it's super cute to see our 20 month old walking everywhere he goes with his hands behind his back. Finally, one irreplaceable quality that PCM staff demonstrates is the love they have for each of their children. My son was enrolled in Nido from 9 months old- 18months old. His bond was so strong with his Nido teachers that after he transitioned to the toddler environment, he would constantly want to show them the new things he was learning and show off his new glasses. The staff always made time for him and made him feel seen, even at a young age. My daughter started in the toddler environment when she was 2.5 years old and transitioned to the Children's House environment a month before she turned 3. Changing environments was worrisome because she was going to be part of a larger class with new teachers and it's always hard to start anew. However, she was always filled with joy and looked forward to going to school. She would get sad when the week was coming to an end and I know that's because of the love she had from her teachers and the love of learning they instilled in her. I cannot thank these ladies enough for everything they have done for my children. I also have a unique perspective being a toddler teacher at PCM and have grown very attached to my class of children. We learn all kinds of skill sets together from putting on our shoes independently, to what it means to listen and create friendships with each other, to learning endless vocabulary, as well as learning how to navigate through big feelings with one another. The children have become a part of me and will forever hold a special place in my heart. Tears fill my eyes as I write this review because I'm so grateful for Park Cities Montessori. Do yourself a favor and get on the waiting list- fast. You do not want to miss the opportunity for your children and family to join an incredible community.

There is very little play equipment, large areas of bare dirt, worn-out artificial turf, dirty picnic tables, and the overall space looks neglected rather than welcoming for young children. I am not a parent at this school, but as someone who happened to see the children here, I was honestly shocked. Families paying private-school tuition would reasonably expect a clean, well-maintained, and engaging outdoor environment. I hope the school considers improving the playground or finding a better location for outdoor activities.
