I have benefited from other hospice organizations for other family members and after experiencing QCH I will ALWAYS choose them from now on!! Here is why... I wanted in-HOME care for my mother who had lung cancer that spread to the brain. She was a smoker of 53 years. In the past, we had used another hospice company with in-FACILITY care for my father who had oral cancer, lost his jaw, and was bleeding consistently from his trachea implant. This in-FACILITY care was good. When we used the same company for in-HOME care for my mother, the care was less than desirable. That was when I realized that Queen City Hospice was a true GEM!!! All elder care IS NOT equal!!! While the other facility had visited our home in the days beforehand, I still did not have the needed equipment or actual physical support. On a surprise Saturday morning, my mother drastically declined, falling while trying to walk. As I was trying to help my mother get up to a safe place and tending to my 2 year old son screaming at my leg, I called the our original hospice in a panic, needing serious help from an aid. I was told that aids do not work on the weekend. I wish I had known this point and understood what that really meant in practice, not just theory. The reality meant- I was totally on my own for the weekends, including the soon emerging emergency on my hands. Luckily, a neighbor recommended Queen City Hospice, I called, and without delay they came to the rescue!! Within hours of a phone call we had transferred hospice centers, we had oxygen, a hospital bed, bedside commode, medicine, a nebulizer, and 24 hour--round-the-clock care so I could rest amongst other benefits. The QCH nurses and staff were AMAZING!!! It was like having family here in a strange city. They were there to listen when I needed to talk, and stayed out of the way when I did not. Everyone was super experienced and knowledgeable. I have never experienced such love, concern, care, and beautiful compassion like I did from Paul and his team. My mother died in my arms 48 hours later. Thankfully the nurse at the bedside prepped me for everything that was happening. I really felt she passed without pain and in peace like she always wanted. For a brief moment, neither one of us felt fear and we were able to focus on our bond, our relationship, all because of the incredible care of Queen City Hospice!

The staff - pretty nice and explained everything. WiFi - Great speed and I had no trouble connecting my devices. *It is only "on" Mon-Fri 6am-6pm Magazines - there were not many to choose, but they were current and representative of diverse interests (Sports Illustrated, Time, Cincinnati Mag. ) The patient and friend are notified via a vibrating and beeping restaurant type pager device that fits in a pocket and has sufficient range that works not only in the upstairs waiting room, but in the parking lot as well. Misc - The coat rack is large and has plenty of room for coats. The bathroom has really cold water, the hot water did not seem to be hooked up. Not necessary to have clean hands, but it was kind of annoying. Waiting Room - The waiting room on the second floor is nice and a decent place to spend a half hour to an hour. My wife was satisfied with her first visit a few years prior; but this last visit was disapointing…read more I was waiting for her in the 2nd floor waiting area and saw a bedbug. Yes, I know what a bedbug looks like. I didn't want to scare anyone else in the room, and simply told the receptionist. A little while later someone came in the waiting room spraying alcohol and wipping things down. We talked a little and she said it wasn't the first time she was asked to do the same thing. A bit later I was told to sit with my wife as she recovered. I overheard a nurse say that number 3 (my wife) was "the one with bedbugs" and that they would have to wipe it down. I went up to the nurse and said that I was pretty sure (we now know for sure) that we did not bring the begbug with us. I also mentioned that the person spraying alcohol for bugs was asked more than once to do so. The nurse was adament that alcohol was 100% effective on bedbugs. I agreed that is was effective when sprayed DIRECTLY on bedbugs; but asked "what about the ones in the crevises of the chairs and other furniture in the room?" She still insisted that we must have brought it in. I didn't argue anymore. She seemed annoyed with us for the rest of the visit.

I've never had a billing problem and test results are received quickly. They're proactive in letting the patient know test results, following up with a call from the nurse or the doctor directly. Our provider was a now show, and, after 30 minutes, we called, only to get an answering machine. They returned that call more than 3 hours later. Luckily, we were able to find an alternate caregiver, a family friend, to come help. My mother, 91 years old with dementia, was in bed almost 2 hours later than normal, soaking wet. My wife kept trying to call, and, finally talked to the owner. His solution, especially after already having someone on the way, was unacceptable. There is no excuse for not following your own call in procedure that you sell yourself on. This company cannot be trusted to care for the elderly.
