Fantastic skate sharpening. I would highly recommend as it was one of the best I have had in many many years. Service was great!

The repair team at Erik's managed to find the tiny piece of glass that made me 30 minutes late for work embedded in my back tire's inner tube. They replace it, filled up my tires and I swear my bike rides better than it did before. A totally clean, professional job--hopefully I never need to come in for a flat tire again, but if YOU need one, Erik's is the place! Now my one...kinda tiny but not tiny gripe is that Erik's has absolutely no bike racks outside. It feels a little unfathomable that a bike (and skate etc) shop doesn't have any bike racks? I've come to Erik's on my bike before to get some accessories and I recall very well how flabbergasted I was. You might think those red bicycle sculptures right outside are bike racks. If they are, they are terribly constructed. You cannot roll your bike up to the "racks", you have to lift it up the concrete steps. If there are cars parked in front of them, this becomes way more difficult. The gaps in the sculpture aren't intuitive for looping locks through. So, no, I don't consider these bike racks. Erik's is a wonderful, wonderful bike and board and accessory shop--please put just a regular old bike rack in the lot!

It's a little out of the way, and it's a bit of a jumble. Most of these supplies look as though they sat in a warehouse for a long time. You have to be willing to look and search. I'm pretty craft-compulsive, and I bought nothing. Nothing. There were some (longtime?) customers in the store so they must know what they want. I was able to go down aisles, wander down corridors freely and no one bothered me. I suppose if I asked for help I would have gotten it. Sorry but this was not my vibe.

That said, it's a bit disheveled and dim; you're not in a Michael's. But if you are willing to poke around you, are sure to find some treasure! It's a good thing for GPS because the location is slightly hard to find, but gladly the nondescript building does have a big sign on it, the address is posted on a sign near the street, and the aqua blue door are all things to look for. Worth the drive!

I don't necessarily need character shoes, but I do want to get some sort of cute shoe that I can teach in and are a little more robust than my ballet shoes. I used to have various lyrical jazz shoes way back in the day (1996 haha), so after looking to see what kind of shoes they still make, I found some that Allegro carries. Better yet, the two shoes I wanted to try they had on clearance (I guess they may be discontinuing them?) for a bargain on their website. They only had shoes in what I thought would be way too small, but I figured I'd give it a try. I went yesterday (almost exactly 2 years to the day since the last time I was here), and it was a great experience yet again. The sales associate was super nice and brought out both shoes, and surprisingly they were only about a half size too small. But, for $10 for the cheaper pair, I figured it's good enough and maybe they'll stretch a little as I wear them. I can make any shoe fit if I'm motivated enough. I also impulse purchased the cute hoodie that I mentioned in my review back from September 2023 (see photo from that review). I saw that they still have it and so I couldn't pass it up this time. They were quite busy when I was there (about 3pm on a Thursday), so it's great to see them thriving.

We trusted the professional fitting, only to find out at home that the shoes didn't fit at all. When the mistake was brought to their attention, the store refused to exchange or refund because one shoe had been sewn--even though the sizing error was theirs. Offering a $15 credit instead was insulting. Poor service and zero accountability. Do not recommend.

This place is huge and they have a massive inventory of all things sports related. It's nice that you can still walk into a place and touch and feel the merchandise you might be interested in. On this visit, it was to look for a youth softball mitt that I will be gifting to one of the grand-darlings. The last time I was in a DICK's, it was to buy a White Sox cap and it was a couple years back when they were doing a wee bit better than they are this year! The pricing here does generally seem a bit elevated but that comes with the brick-and mortar business and the privilege of inspecting what you're buying. Who remembers Sportsmart, or Sports Authority, or further back Herman's? They're all gone now, and I think DICK's is it these days for sporting goods. I'm glad they are still at it for us.
