These guys were simply great. I haven't skated in 30 years and am older than dirt, but the girls there were great about getting what I wanted AND MAKING SURE EVERYTHING FIT THE WAY IT'S SUPPOSED TO. This took a while, but skating is something I at least hope to do as a serious hobby and that won't happen unless everything fits/works. The girl that helped us showed 0 amount of good customer service. She was short with both myself and my daughter, seemed very disorganized, started helping us, left us waiting, went in the back to eat and drink, then came back to the front, started helping someone else. Overall we were in the store for a total of 40 minutes, without any kind of attention or assistance. I've had a good relationship with Rainbo for a few decades, but I'm afraid as of today that's over. Unfortunately for Rainbo, they are almost the only figure-skating shop in the area, so they are usually over-run with business. I can understand the stress, as I worked in retail for almost 2 decades. However, today not only was one of the clerks incredibly rude and demeaning to me, but I believe she also measured my boots wrong. I need blades, and since my new boots are the same length as my old ones, (and the manufacturer's website says so), I should take the same length blade that I had on my old boots. But I got an argument from someone measuring with a measuring tape. Worse, they have to order the (wrong size) blade and it will take a week to come in, and I'll have to drive back there from the far NW suburbs only to find out the blade is the wrong size. Also, as I said, the clerk was so rude to me that the woman sitting next to me was startled. I'm going to be using another vendor (probably online) and terminating my relationship with Rainbo. It won't hurt them a bit; as I said they are the only game in town and have a captive audience. But I won't accept that kind of treatment. read more

Today I stopped by and bought a pair of riedell 255 motion skates. John was very helpful and knowledgeable. Although they sell mostly women's figure skates they did very well discussing my needs and the cosmos blades. Thanks for a very pleasurable experience. I had also communicated with Johns assistant who was also very helpful. Although I am a long time absent intermediate skater having the correct skates is very important. My skates came in and were heated and molded to my feet and then the blades balanced to my legs and feet and sharpened. A wonderful process and the skates fit very well. I went in to purchase new skates for my daughter which we do every year and spend at least 400-500 dollars. The women that works in there is awful!!!!! Every time I've gone in there and have had to deal with her is an extremely unpleasant experience. She is rude and acts like she's doing you a favor. She told me I needed an appointment (which was never like that before). How was I to know that this was something new which she said it's been the last year. She is a nasty person!!! I love coming to Rainbo however, I wish it was a little closer to the city. John is absolutely amazing and I would recommend him to any of my skaters or anyone looking to buy skates. He is very knowledgable in all the inventory and was able to fix all my skating needs. I have very wide small flat feet and most skates don't fit me well. However, John was able to help me mold my skates so they wouldn't be so painful every time I skated. Since then I have not had any issues with my skates and can skate pain free. The team at Rainbo is very patient with skaters, helping them find a pair that fits just right, blades that are appropriate, and they adjust and fit both as needed. John knows what he is doing and has been fitting skates for a very long time. They also usually have a decent selection of used pairs. Takes a while to order skates, but that seems to be an industry norm, so plan accordingly. My tip: I would not go here for a fitting or even a sharpening without making an appointment beforehand. You might get lucky, but many people go here, so it is well worth that call to set it up. read more

After over a year looking for a pair of comfortable figure skates that fit, John and Stephanie at Rainbo went above and beyond to find me the perfect pair! I've got wide feet and most regular figure skates pinch my toes and also hurt my ankles. I called ahead to see if they thought they could help and when I arrived at the store they already had a few pairs in mind they thought would work. None fit perfectly, but Stephanie knew of a pair she could order that she thought might work. I need to add Stephanie was very helpful, but never pushy and really listened to what I liked and didn't like about each pair. Rainbo called me when the order arrived in the store and I was thrilled to discover Stephanie had found me the perfect figure skates! I keep repeating that they are perfect, but that's only because they really are! They are comfortable, the price was reasonable, and John molded the boots so they hug my feet just right. My toes have plenty of room and my ankles don't hurt at all when I go ice skating. The ice skates are a dream, even more comfortable than some pairs of shoes I've owned. I'm so happy to be able to ice skate during my lunch break with such a great pair of figure skates. I should add Rainbo sells a wide range of accessories, so I also picked up some skate guards and soakers, plus John sharpened my blades at the store. I can not say enough good things about Rainbo Sports & Skating, especially John and Stephanie, who were patient, incredibly knowledgeable about a wide range of figure skates, and worked hard to get me the perfect pair of skates. Absolutely love Rainbo!! I won't take my skates or my daughters anywhere else and trust me Ive been around IL, lol! John and Stephanie are fantastic, so patient, knowledgeable, very experienced, reliable, professional and thorough. They have taken over ownership of the shop and have really done an amazing job!. I relocated from California a couple years ago to Elmhurst IL. I had the luxury in California to be able to take my skates to Harlick direct. Since moving out here, it's been a journey to find a skate shop that works on custom harlick's and well! Not only do they do it all when it comes to your skates but Rainbo also has every brand of figure skates, blades, skating apparel, accessories and equipment you could possibly need for skating.
