The last three were 12 hour night carers who were attentive, discreet and considerate. Natalia worked hard to match each to our family member who had previously had difficulty accepting outsiders in their home. Victor covered many days to drive and provide support either extreme patience. We highly recommend The Key.

They offered 8 hour shifts for $42 per hour or 12 hour shifts for $46 per hour. We chose 3, 8 hour shifts. Because they sent new people and there was very little returning providers we had to continually explain Dad's needs and how to care for him. Although we explained how to get to the house, the manager did not include it in the instructions for the providers or they did not review it so we repeatedly had to explain it. Some of the issues we had included: A provider allowed Dad to walk without a walker. A provider left him alone to go into another part of the house to eat. When she went back he had managed to get himself out of bed and across the room. We found him in bed, without a pull-up and the bed was wet. One was over an hour late. We advised them that his hearing aids had to be removed when he slept and that his dog would eat them. They didn't remove them and the dog got one and destroyed it. We were told we needed to give them 48 hours notice. When we gave notice they told the caregiver next on the schedule he was cancelled. There was one outstanding caregiver. Hussein. She was companionate, caring and skilled. We were so happy when she came and she took excellent care of Dad. As we are in our 60's we had hoped Thekey would provide Dad care and help reduce our stress. They actually made caring for Dad more stressful. We would strongly recommend finding care elsewhere.

I recently attended a tour of Ivy Park while looking around for senior independent living options…read more I don't live there. So I can't tell you what it is like to be actually living there. But the tour showed a nice, clean residence with plenty of natural lights. The tour itself and the impression of the residences I got from that tour, not the living experience, is what I give 5 stars. A couple of things I like are, 1) It is a small community with 88 apartments that makes it easier for residents and staffs to know and socialize among each other. The residences I encountered looked to be happy and interacted with each others. 2) Location is pretty good close to the 2nd city center around California Avenue. 3) Meals are per order and cooked from that order when you actually sit down at their dinning hall unlike most senior homes that have fixed menu for each meal. Cook per order minimizes the waste if people don't show up to eat. As far as cost goes for independent living, Ivy Park is very similar to Moldaw which is a much bigger community, when factored in the entrance fees and monthly payments. Ivy Park has a much lower entrance fee than Moldaw. But it has a much higher monthly fee than Moldaw. After interests calculations, they are pretty much washed. For assisted living, Ivy Park might be at lower monthly fees even though it is not clear as these per health condition services fees schedules are not disclosed by either Ivy Park or Moldaw. If you don't want to tie up a lot of money in entrance fees, but don't mind paying more monthly, and you like a smaller cozy community, Ivy Park can be considered. If you have a lot of cash for entrance fees, but would like to pay less monthly, and like the many activities available from a much bigger community, Moldaw would be better.

Following corrective foot surgery I decided to try a home care agency that offered special…read morepost-operative care. I didn't anticipate needing anything long term, and this company offered a 72-hour package that seemed perfect for my situation. Services I needed included applying ice for 20 mins every hour I was awake, helping me get around while I got used to crutches even in the middle of the night, which meant spotting me to make sure I didn't fall, heating up and bringing me food, as I was supposed to lie in bed with my foot elevated for the first week post surgery, and taking care of many other things I needed. I did not need any actual nursing services--only home care. After the initial 72-hour period, I felt I wanted a little more assistance so I signed up for a couple of 9-hour shifts, and that was all I ultimately needed. They were very flexible in providing this assistance, as I was unsure how much time I would need in order to take care of myself safely, and they still managed to schedule great people for me. Everyone I interacted with at the agency was professional and accommodating. The caregivers (there were several for 24/7 coverage) were caring and delightful. The house and kitchen were kept clean and tidy. As such, I highly recommend working with this agency should you find yourself needing this type of care.
