Employees need a training program or programs. Also everyone who employs the caregivers should have cameras. The management staff are great but a lot of the employees do not know how to converse with dementia patients nor do they want to engage in any meal prep . A lot of the ones that were sent to be with my father were only interested in being in phone playing games or sleeping in the recliner. They need to know how to converse with seniors etc. read more

Wow. Had a very unprofessional and disappointing experience with this company. After finally convincing my grandparents they should hire someone, the first day someone shows up with food and sits down to start eating. The next person they sent was ok for a few days, and then she had a "mix up in her schedule" and was two hours late. I called someone to complain, they said they would get back to me in a few days, got a return call a week and a half later. When asked if they tried to offer my grandma a discount for her trouble or something to try and keep her as a client; the person who called me said she wasn't sure exactly and that my grandma just wasn't interested. Pretty bad customer service and client retention. Would go with a more reliable business. read more

Great company to work for! When I graduated from nursing school I was able to work there while searching for my nursing career and waiting to get licensed. They were great at matching me at clients that matched my personality. I even met one of the true Rosie the Riveters! It was so neat to hear her story. I also worked with a gentleman full-time for a week till he passed away at home under hospice care. It was difficult but such a blessing to be able to be there with him and his family. If you are in need of care I highly recommend Home Instead. The training they provide their caregivers is top notch. read more

This company is a joke!!! My Aunt prides herself in cleanliness and was living in filth with trash bags full of trash stashed behind her door. And they ask for crazy dollar amount hourly to come clean her home with a minimum of 4 hours each time. (which wouldn't have taken that long considering she lives alone) One of the SO CALLED care givers that was sent to clean got there and immediately complained her back was hurt and she can't do anything so she stacked trash in bags and left that in my aunt's home. Meanwhile, my Aunt is sitting in filth, which is not in her character at all. You should be ashamed of your company for treating anyone this way. What if this was your parent? Another SO CALLED worker left my Aunt acting completely not herself and talking incoherently and DOENS'T REPORT IT!!!! Now thanks to your what you call a staff she is in a Rehab center because she was found laying in the bathroom floor for DAYS. How do you people sleep at night? My Aunt is one of the nicest human beings on this earth and for her of all people to be treated like a paycheck or TRASH is just beyond heart breaking. SHAME ON ALL OF YOU for being so uncaring and LAZY. (I do have the names of the 2 coworkers I'm referring to. So don't think you're getting off easy. I worked for this company for a very short time as it is the most unprofessional setting I've ever been in. Clients were not the issue, many are fabulous! The scheduling department, is terrible at communicating and never admits fault, will tell you only what you want to hear in the moment. I actually caught them in lies more than once. I have texts that contradict one another. Someone crying she was going to lose her job if she didn't get it together... the last day that I worked this happened! Some of the clients complained that many days no one came to their home and when they were called it was said... well I live an hour away so I'll be there when I can. The clients would just say never mind we will be fine today. I feel this was her goal because they didn't want to actually go in. Best part, almost all communication was done via text, (not professional). Every Friday I would receive 3-5 texts about needing help somewhere and practically begging us for it. $9 an hour is what most make... for such an important role... They speak poorly to caregivers about other caregivers and in my short time all of the 4 others I met all had many of the same issues and mostly more issues than me seeing they had stuck it out longer than I was willing to. Several people I spent time with had so many complaints about the people that were sent to them, no consistent caregivers making them feel that they had to start over every day! Just this past week I learned that although I was given shirts that were too big, I wore them daily... I find out I am the only one to be in uniform for 3 different clients. I've heard that caregivers bring family/significant others with them and sleep on the sofa or cuddle up and ignore the client or have their phone texting all day and not communicating leaving the client to feel alone, one lady said she loves her caregiver but she will "wash me with one hand and hold her phone to the ear with the other". My point of this... they care about the Quantity of people not the quality of people to give quality care. They pretend to care and appreciate you, every text from each person says they appreciate all you do... When it becomes the standard phrase you know it's bogus. I received a card from the trainer and the very next day a card from scheduling... make it believable and spread it out at least! Pay what people are worth and you may have better turn out and less turnover! I've been in HR and thus is the worst turnover and complaints I've ever heard! I do not think this is the right place for anyone that truly cares for helping people, I urge you to listen very closely to what you hear before jumping on board. If you want plenty of hours and low expectations then this is the job for you. The standards are low and you train 2 days and out you go to care for someone's loved one. I should have left on day one when I was lied to and left alone even after asking for help and understanding prior to going. You are expected to answer all texts and calls even if off, so the office folks get time off with no calls but you are not allowed to! They say no phone while with a client but send texts all day to perform tasks they should be doing... like collecting documentation for insurance companies. Best part... if you do not answer your phone they will call the clients home and ask you to go work somewhere once you leave there... RUDE AND DISRESPECTFUL to the clients. You could work all day and night so long as they don't have to. In fact I was with a client until 6pm and another client was due for care at 6pm and they wanted me to go. I said I couldn't the first time because it would make me late and instead of going themselves they told me it was okay to be late, I get to the client and they just thought no one was coming AGAIN, no one contacted them and the client was already in bed and I had to wake her! Ive already contacted those needing contacted about the way clients are treated as well as how the business is done there... all the way to the board and the BBB, Medicare and so on. Love that Tennessee is an "At will" state! If you choose to work here, know your rights and the clients rights first... always do right by the client because someone needs to be their voice as the company only cares about the money coming in! If you choose for them to be in care of your loved ones, first do yourself a favor and ask them what the caregiver to client ratio is... this way you know how understaffed they are and how inconsistent your caregiver will be, making each day a challenge for many people that struggle with dementia, Alzheimer's, anxiety or many other things. I was also asked to lie on an automatic survey, HR asked that I score them 10/10 because they worked so hard to get me hours one week. That was the final straw, once I received that email from Ashleigh! Asked to lie... this is not doing justice for other caregivers and certainly not the clients either! read more

During training, Debbie Jones referred to Blacks/African Americans as "coloreds". This came up as one of the trainees tactfully and professionally inquired of Home Instead's policy on how should we as Professional Caregivers address clients who do not want to be touched by a Black/African American caregiver. While Debbie Jones acknowledged and admitted this is an issue, it wasn't clear that Home Instead has a direct policy for effectively resolving this type of issue. It's sad and disappointing that this has to be addressed in 2019 and it's also sad and disappointing that we haven't passed on from Blacks/African Americans being referred to as "coloreds".
