We scheduled care twice a week from 9am-2pm to give my mother time to handle personal responsibilities and to ensure my father had some engagement during the day. This is fairly standard support, and we were clear about our expectations. Unfortunately, the caregiver provided did not meet even basic standards of care. During multiple visits, she spent the majority of the time filling out time sheets, watching videos on her phone and at one point was asleep while on duty. This was especially concerning given my father's condition. At one point, my father called us confused and frightened while the caregiver was upstairs and not actively monitoring him. It was even more concerning to find out that our caregiver was napping upstairs during this. We were looking for dependable, engaged support during a very vulnerable time for our family, and this experience did not provide that. If anything, we just feel like we were taken advantage of.

Firstly, ALWAYS check the "__ other reviews that are not currently recommended" on Yelp. Those are…read morelinked at the very end of the displayed reviews. Yelp has this absurd AlGoreithm that automatically and mindlessly dumps perfectly valid, legitimate reviews into this "not recommended" bucket for no good reason. They generally seem to be from commenters that only have one or a couple reviews, but that is not always the case. Those "not recommended" reviews do not count in the overall star rating. Here, all those 9 reviews are solid 5-stars that clearly contradict and offset the two outliers. As will mine. I needed transportation from the hospital after an outpatient procedure. Just a car ride home. Hospitals have become very picky and obstinate about this and in these times there is nobody around. People have jobs, kids and commitments to deal with. In this sw suburb area there are virtually no options. The last local outfit I dealt with now refused to help. I was lucky enough to find Home & Hearth Caregivers after an extensive search. They were very helpful in arranging this non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) and at a very reasonable rate. But wait ... there's more. After I got to the hospital, ready for the procedure, already lying on a bed hooked up to an IV, they suddenly and unexpectedly informed me that I MUST have someone stay overnight. After substantial resulting chaos Home & Hearth came through and found somebody at the very last minute. Truly above and beyond effort. Caregivers and staff were wonderful. Very nice, polite and helpful. Couldn't ask for better. As for rates, they are typical for the area. I did compare. Billing came through clearly presented and accurate. They get my highest recommendation and should I need such services in the future, they are my #1 choice.

The CNA was hired to visit 2x a week prior to the time the daily caregiver arrives. The CNA was late or didn't show up at least 60% of the time. When she did, her excuses were ridiculous. When brought to her attention, her response was belligerent and argumentative. She was completely taking advantage of an elderly woman who cannot advocate for herself. All the while claiming to have been here, being paid to have done her job. After being told her services were no longer needed, she showed up with the RN assigned to the case as if she hadn't been told to no longer come. They both told false stories to try to cover for her. It was a very unpleasant experience for the patient and her caregivers. To blatantly ignore your termination and to lie as if your patient and her caregivers have some sort of mental deficit is unacceptable. When you have to hire hospice, I believe you think you'll be getting a compassionate person with morals, not a scammer trying to get paid for not doing a job. Trying to speak with anyone from the company is a nightmare also. They were contacted numerous times to address our concerns and never followed up on anything, from things as simple as proof of insurance to complaints about lack of care. The whole process of trying to speak to someone in charge is a nightmare. I wouldn't recommend this agency if you're expecting compassionate, reliable care.
