I was hopeful that I would have a good experience with Roger based on past reviews. But I thought WRONG. I had him install 2 vent, heater, light units for 2 of our bathrooms.Yes, we do have attic access. He seemed nice enough over the phone and thought the price was reasonable. I also thought he would complete the job in 1 day. Wrong. Day 1, he "installed" 1 unit after arriving at about 9am and then at 11 or 12 said he had another job to go to and left. Uh, what could I say. I wanted the job done. I had to take another day off of work the next day. After "installing" the second unit he then came down at noon and said he was done and had to leave for a "meeting" He was also leaving us to finish going up into the attic and attaching a 4 inch vent hose from each unit to the holes in the roof. He said it would be so easy. I though ok, I'll give it a try. Wrong again. I should have said STOP and finish the job, but I thought I could do as he suggested. Before leaving he upped his price too. The task was extremely difficult with the limited space to attach the hose and bend it upward to the roof which is probably why he didn't want to do it. I never dreamed I would end up doing what I did when employing an electrician. I did feel like a fool and was obviously being taken advantage of. I guess being female and over 50 put a target on my back. Well, my only satisfaction will be if you heed my warning about using Roger (Home Owner's Electric). Consumer beware. Find a more professional and ethical electrician, unless you want to pay more than expected while having to complete the job yourself! read more

Yelp has this business as Closed. Not true! Homeowner's Electric is alive and well. Contact number as is listed: 510 537-1017. I almost have no words about what type of human runs this business. The true spirit of goodness. I had a single breaker issue on my sub panel which with his obvious experience, FIXED in no time. Roger is the man to call for your electric issues. Best of all, NO BS. Answered immediately my phone call, which I found to be not the case with 5 other Yellow Page electricians. Yelp, please don't deny others access to this Open business listing it as Closed. The electrical service at my home needed a serious upgrade from its existing antiquated system. Since a friend of mine is a local building inspector, I asked for recommendations of reputable electricians and Home Owner's Electric was amongst those recommended. Although I contacted other electricians, I decided to go with Roger since he was willing to work with my budget and was very patient with my endless questions. I am glad I went with Roger for this job. He completed the job and we passed all of our inspections. He is a very friendly person and cares about his work and his customers. He is a little "old school" in terms of his record keeping - think pencil and notepad and not iPad - but accurate nonetheless. I plan on hiring him for future electric needs. read more

I created this yelp account specially to give Roger of Home Owner's Electric a comment. Back in Sep last year the electrician I hired before abandoned the work he did on my house just because he was going to retire and couldn't help me finish the permit work any more! (And he did a terrible work according to the city's inspector). I was wondering if all the electricians out there were like that. Roger was refered to me by a city's inspector actually. I guess it must be because the inspector was so impressed with Roger's work. Roger showed up about 2 hours later after I called him. He fixed my tenant's electric problems within minutes. He also explained in details how everything should be and what are the problems. He even suggested I should try to get the previous electrician back to fix the problems instead of hiring a new guy to do the work since I had to pay a lot more extra money. It shows how much he concerns about his potential clients. Finally I still couldn't get the previous guy to come back to fix the stuff to pass city's inspection. I had to make a claim against his insurance company. At the same time I called Roger again to do an estimate for me for how much it would cost to fix every problems from the inspection. Roger showed up on time. (He is a very punctual guy). He inspected everything one more time and explained in details to me and the tenant again. In one word, he was very good at what he is doing for life. I would refer Roger to any one who need electric services in that area. He is the best! read more

I had the Home Owner's electric crew out to my house for a complete overhaul of our electrical system some years back: new service, panel, circuits and replace old knob and tube. We were on a tight budget and Home Owner's electric was the cheapest. I would not use their services again. As another reviewer said - it's worth paying 2x as much for a quality job and to avoid the headaches that we had with them. Some of the other reviews describe a similar experience that I had: Roger Smith, the owner, didn't consistently show up when he said he would, often left in the middle of the day, and left a mess during the job. He always seemed in a hurry to do the minimum and get out to do another job. This caused the project to drag out, complicating our move-in. Attention to detail was lacking. Example: we had lathe and plaster that had to come out in order to rewire the outlets in the upstairs rooms. The outlets were down low, just above the baseboard. Roger roughly banged out the plaster with a hammer, up about 8 inches from the bottom of the wall. After the wiring was replaced I had to trim the banged up plaster to even it out, and install 9" strips of sheet rock over the hole. If he'd been more careful the patch job would have been much easier and less expensive. read more

Partial power went out on Xmas night. We did the basics to check (or thought we did) and waited for PG&E to confirm it wasn't their issue. Day after called ppl to get quotes. First few I called said $100+ to just have a look, Roger told me right away a few things it could be and simple fixes I could do. And damn, he was right. Power was back on within our 5 min call and $0 to me. Very helpful, explained in detail, trustworthy, saved us huge $$$ this holiday...could of made himself an easy bucket but thought of his customer instead! Saving his number! read more

I spent two weeks getting estimates to upgrade my electrical panels in the garage from fuses to circuit breakers I got three bids and each and every one told me something different that had to be done to meet code. each time i would go to city hall and ask a building inspector if what i was being told was correct and it was not, they must have got tired of seeing me and recommended that i call Roger which i did and he responded within an hour and gave me a bid which was much cheaper than all the others, not only that but what he told me must be done was the exact things that the inspector said had to be done. Roger was excellent in a pinch. We had hired another service to come check on several non-functioning outlets in our kitchen including the range. They informed me that the problem was something they would have to troubleshoot and may take several hours. Roger came and fixed the problem as well as wired a new switch for our porch light in an hour. He was very courteous and knowledgeable thoughout.
