I am so grateful I found Dr. Jim Humphries when my cat was dying. She had a stroke and it was during the exam Dr. Humphries did that I found that out because the vet I took her to gave me more of a vague diagnosis. That vet office also said they'd call and check up on my cat after spending over $300 but they never did and this is exactly opposite of how Dr. Humphries handled things. Dr. Humphries was clearly very concerned and eager to help with my situation. When I realized it was probably time to put my cat down as she could not stand, go to the bathroom, or was even aware, I called the vet I initially took her to and asked if they would be able to put her down and their response was, "Well, we're very busy and in fact booked today so we can try and squeeze you in." As you can imagine, I was dumbfounded. No one wants to be rushed when they are faced with having to put their 18-year-old cat down. It forced me to look for other vets and after calling a place that does mobile euthanasia, the lady who answered the phone was so unhelpful, uncompassionate, and rude. After reading reviews on their website, one reviewer said that he experienced the same thing and said he went to Dr. Humphries instead and was glad he did because he wore his heart on his sleeve. And I later learned that particular place was under investigation so I'm glad I chose to not use them. So, I looked up Dr. Humphries and that reviewer was indeed correct. Dr. Humphries does wear his heart on his sleeve and it is clear he cares about his job. When I initially told him about my cat and didn't even know if I was making the right decision, he took the time to ask questions and gave me some suggestions on her medication. When I realized that it was probably time to let my cat go, I called Dr. Humphries. He said he'd come over and give my cat an exam so at least I knew I was making the right decision. He came over later on in the evening, even on a weekend, and during inclement weather with bad road conditions. Now that's dedication! Dr. Humphries gave my cat an exam and assured me that I was doing the right thing. He also took the time to answer all of my questions even throughout my tears. And when it came time to say goodbye, he gave me time with my cat so that I could say goodbye. It also helped that he lovingly wrapped her up in a blanket and took her to the animal crematorium. The little box for my cat's ashes that he gave me was just beautiful. So, all in all Dr. Humphries turned a really sad experience into one that honored my cat and was calming and comforting to me. Dr. Humphries helped me and my best friend of 17 years nail the perfect landing last Sunday with caring, compassion, heartfelt sympathy, competence and about fifteen football lenghts of empathy, mostly because he loves dogs as much as I loved mine. After 17 wonderful years with my girl Dagny, the time had come. After a previous experience that left both my wife and I traumatized with a previous loved one put down in a vet's office, we knew we wanted Dagny to go at home, surround by her family, loved and at peace. The final decision was a tough one to make as she was undergoing medical processes through the early part of the weekend, with results coming out. Dr. Humphries helped me translate all the medical terms and truly understand in real world meaning what was going on and helped me make the crucial decision of when to draw the line and bring her home before she died away from me, afraid and alone. He came out a few hours later and masterfully led my little girl into the next life. She never felt any pain, or panic, or anything beyond the depth of my love for her. In the end, she died camped out on my shoulder. It was the same place she sought comfort as a small premature puppy her mom rejected at 4 weeks, after I brought her home and fed her milk off of my finger. That was in 2000. After 17 years, I expected my grief to be overwhelming, crippling and paralyzing. It isn't. That was because of a variety of factors, but one of the most surprising was the ease, and comfort, and absolute perfection of her passing after a long, healthy life filled with love. Dr. Humphries was an unexpected gift from God above on the last day. After she was gone, he happily allowed me to wrap her and carry her out to his vehicle himself. He transported her remains away to the cremation facility and allowed the family to grieve in peace. I would give a negative star rating if I could!! Absolutely horrible experience. Their website says " This is never rushed and always peaceful", they clearly don't operate by this. My mom was driving 9 hours back from Nebraska to say goodbye to our dog! We wanted to put him to rest after she got there so she could say goodbye. He was not suffering, and his breathing was peaceful. I called these 'business first' people on May 21st around 1:45 pm to see if they could come after my mom arrived. She was expected at 5:00 pm. They told me that they could have the doctor come out at 3:30 pm, I explained the situation and told her we had to wait. She proceeds to tell me that I'm cruel and that my dog is in pain and suffering and that I should take the 3:30 appointment if I cared about my dog. Shocked that an hour and a half would make that much of a difference I decided to look elsewhere. We were having trouble finding a place and my sister called back and told them we had to wait for my mom and asked again if they could come after. Then the lady told her that they already had a 4:30 appointment and that they didn't do appointments after 5:00. THEY WERE JUST TRYING TO SQUEEZE US IN TO FILL UP THEIR WORK DAY!! My dog was not in pain and they tried to guilt me into business. When we told her we couldn't in good conscious do that she said "Ok. Whatever you need to do". No sympathy no apologizes not a shred of decency. Horrible. I finally found Urban Tails, which I would highly recommend for your pet. The doctor was so kind and respected our time with our dog. He even came to us after hours and made the process comfortable for everyone. I cannot imagine we would have had the same experience with Home with Dignity. read more

All good things must come to an end. Eight years ago my husband gave me the next best thing to a baby, which we could not have... He gave me a furry baby and I named him Jake. He helped me through a devastating event and when he got sick I knew I had to do everything I could to take care of him. For ten months he battled a disease. I knew I needed to thank my furry baby for being a great companion and I did not want to drive Jake to an office or stress him out in an unknown environment, I read up on at home euthanasia and from reviews I knew who I would call. When Jake showed me he could not fight anymore, I called Dr. Humphries. He came to our home late at night and examined my motionless Jake and confirmed it was truly time. He let me and my husband make an educated decision, we got to spend a lot of time with our furry baby. I was able to feed Jake icechips, I got to tell him one last time how wonderful he was and how loved he was. I thanked him for being my rock and sang him to sleep. Jake went into a peaceful sleep at home on his favorite couch, with his blanket, his head on his pillow, hugging his chewie bone, and with us holding him. I can't tell you how Dr. Humphries made such a painful moment tolerable. Dr.Humphries is a true professional and an angel on earth. I only met this man one time and I will forever be thankful that he took meticulous care of my precious Jake. Dr. Humphries is a very blessed and gifted doctor. Last April, my beautiful German Sheppard, Jade was in the process of passing away. It was 10:30 at night and Dr. Humpheries hadn't ever met me, but the compassion on the other end of the phone was comforting. He told he would get his things together and come to my house, in Colorado Springs. He promptly arrived and greeted my family with compassion. He gently cared for my old girl and gained her trust. (She was a rescue and didn't do well with strangers and especially going to the vet.) He even was there for my other dog who was with all of us saying goodbye. He let us take our time and each of my kids and a couple friends got a chance to say goodbye. When it was time he was so amazing! It is one of the hardest things in the world to say goodbye to a furry family member. He was so gentle, so reassuring and explained everything he was doing. She passed peacefully and with no pain. It was amazing that he came to our HOUSE and let my baby pass in her own surroundings with family and very personalized compassionate care. His years of experience and his dedication to helping animals die with dignity and no pain is an angel sent from God. He was very reasonably priced for his time and the amazing care he provided. The most important was we didn't have to leave our home and cause her more stress and fear. If I could give him 100 stars I would. My dearest friend was dying of a very aggressive cancer, and we made the terrible, but necessary decision to end his suffering. I did not want his last minutes on earth to be terrified in a cold vet's office on a metal table with strange smells and barking dogs. So I looked for in-home euthanasia, and found Dr. Jim Humphries. The minute I spoke to Dr. Humphries on the phone, I could sense his compassion and kindness. Dr. Humphries really understands the pain and grief of losing a pet, and that sympathy is one of the gifts he brings to the entire process. He came quickly when he was needed, and throughout the entire process he was very gentle. Giving the gift of compassion to your beloved friend takes a heavy toll. To hold my cat in my hands, pet him and tell him I love him as he was being put to sleep was the most difficult thing I've ever done in my life. And so I cannot praise Dr. Humphries enough for his service. He helped my poor friend pass in the most gentle way I could have imagined. There were two shots administered, and both were exceedingly gentle. I do not think my kitty felt any discomfort. He was released from pain, and he left this world with his friends telling him they love him and saying goodbye. The entire process was handled with love and dignity. My wife and I were so impressed by Dr. Humphries' spirit and genuine love and compassion. If you need to give your beloved friend the horribly difficult gift of compassion, then I cannot recommend Dr. Humphries enough. Your friend will be in good hands. If I could rate this place a 10 I would, but, they only offer a 5 out of 5 rating. While still painful ,for my husband and I, we wanted to make sure and let Dr Humphries and Patricia know what their kindness and compassion meant to my husband and I. We put off and quite bluntly delayed doing this for our little guy Jake because we couldn't stand the thought of letting him go and him not being present in our home. He has been with us 16 of our 20 married years. From the 1st call and speaking with a wonderful lady named Patricia to Dr. Humphries coming out and speaking with us and making sure that through an exam that Jake was ready to walk that bridge home. What they gave us was a gift of compassion that helped to lessen the pain of loss and gave us extreme comfort in the care and respect given to Jake and to the both of us. It was so incredibly gentle that I didn't notice the exact time that he had gone home. We had not realized how much pain that, Jake had come to live with ,but in talking to the doc he showed us that the greatest love, strength and compassion for someone is to give them the dignity of easing chronic pain and giving him rest so that every day was no longer that constant struggle and fight to get through. We have no doubt that we will see Jake again and he will be one of the 1st complete with a wagging tail to coming running to us when we go home ourselves. Last Saturday, we had to say goodbye to a beloved pet. Our youngest daughter's best and dearest friend. Having suffered for almost 2 years with progressive kidney disease, she just had nothing left to give. We were just about to bring her to our vet for in-patient euthanasia when we came across a much better option; Mobile PetDocs with Dr. James Humphries. He is an experienced veternarian and University professor who provides in-home end of life care. Instead of a cold metal table and a lobby full of well intended, but unwanted spectators, we were able to help her transition while keeping her home... warm and comfortable. When we were ready as a family to let her go (on our timeline), a second and final shot was administered. At no time did I witness any stress or pain from our baby girl. It was with great sadness, that I had to make the hardest decision of my life, but to allow my cat Mercedes the greatest comfort in life to go and not suffering any longer. When I made that call through heavy crying, that Patricia was able to understand what I was trying to say. She was so kind and caring through her soft spoken voice only to say they were booked up for the day, First I want to express prayers to all that were scheduled for that difficult day. She had ask if she could call right back, when she did they recognize the severity of my cat's struggle to breath, and had fit me in between patients. When the difficult time came to say goodbye to our beloved Cookie, we knew we wanted her final moments to be as stress-free as possible. While her vet was amazing, Cookie always had anxiety when we took her into the office so we started looking at in-home services. We searched online and found some vets with good reviews but we knew Dr. Humphries at Home With Dignity would be the best option - the reviews on his website were comforting to us as we appreciated that others had a positive experience with him and when we told our vet who we'd chosen, she spoke highly of him. This was the hardest thing our family has had to do and Dr. Humphries was kind and gentle throughout the whole process. He walked us through the process and he gave us all the time we needed to say goodbye. It was comforting to see her go so peacefully and without any external environmental stress. Dr. Humphries is an absolute blessing during one of the worst challenges we have ever faced with our Sheltie, Aonghus. We thought it was "his time", and because Dr. Humphries was recommended by a friend, we had him come over. After thoroughly examining him, he looked up at us and said, "this is definitely NOT this dog's time." How relieved we were! Dr. Humphries followed up by giving us resources and connecting us to qualified oncologists, and then has had the grace to give us an occasional call to check in on Aonghus. There is no miracle cure for our dog, but someone who touched our emotions, felt our love for this helpless one--all at a time when someone could merely have looked on this episode as a "loss of revenue"--that's what makes Dr. Humphries such a wonderful doctor AND PERSON. Dr. Humphries is just amazing. As many others have said on this site he is Compassionate, Experienced, Professional, Understanding. We had to send our dear 18yr old cat Minnie over the rainbow bridge and for a long time I struggled with the best way to do this. I think it was more me coming to terms with the decision that she was ready to go and not me listening to her that she was ready. When I finally made the decision Dr. Humphries didn't say she should have gone long ago or that I had waited to long. He understood how tough of a decision this was and supported that it was time best for both of us. Dr. and Mrs. Humphries are truly wonderful human beings. This year, we had to say goodbye to our beloved 15 year old Joey and our 14 year old Phoebe, only 5 months apart from one another. We'd raised them since they were little pound puppies and they were our family. Dr. Humphries even gave us advice when we weren't sure if it was time to let them go. After almost 14 years with our beloved Akita, because of her advanced age and rapidly deteriorating quality of life, it was time to say goodbye on May 11, 2016. We did not want to take her out of her familiar surroundings, causing undue stress to both her and our family. Unfortunately, Pueblo has no in-home euthanasia care of this type. Dr. Jim Humphries at Mobile Pet Docs (which will soon be known as Home With Dignity) did not hesitate to travel to us from the Colorado Springs area. We simply cannot say enough good things about this caring and compassionate man. He treated Coco with dignity and grace, consoling us and comforting her in her last moments. Parting with Roxie was difficult. She had a tough beginning but somehow found her way to us. She brought a lot of joy and protection to us. Losing her to cancer was tough even though she gave every ounce of strength to us, but it was time. Nobody ever wants to make the decision we had to make, but it was the right one and the process was as good as it could get. Surrounded by people who loved her in a comfortable environment meant everything to her and to us. Dr. Crane was wonderful and caring. She passed comfortably and in the arms of the ones she loved and protected. If you are debating this as a means of passage, cast the doubts aside as these two guys, Dr. Humphries and Dr. Crane could not have been better. Instead of retire, Dr. Humphries now limits his practice to end of life care. This mostly means what is called "in-home euthanasia". Sadly I had to use him for this in September as my dog was dying from cancer. He could not have been better! He took so much time to help me first on the phone, then here at our home. As you can see from his web site, hundreds of people understand the kind of caring and compassionate man he is. Just go to his site and see what people say. If you are ever faced with this sad and difficult thing, like I was, there is no one better to be there for you. It's been 35 minutes since our Zoe passed. It's been 10 minutes since Dr Hutchinson so very carefully swaddled our baby girl and placed her carefully into a prearranged warm and inviting space into his vehicle to transfer her remains to the aftercare facility. The funeral home in Hawaii didn't give this much respect and care in transporting my mother in law to the funeral home after she passed. These folks do Gods work. Our Zoe was able to die peacefully at home in her own bed without having to be transported to a clinic and being unnecessarily stressed at her end of life. This experience has provided my 10 year old daughter with as much reassurance that death doesn't have to be that scary. I cannot thank Dr Hutchinson and Home with Dignity enough. Our white German shepherd Pearl had cancer in her spleen and we knew the time had come to let her go from our lives. I love our regular vet but I dreaded having to load Pearl in our car to drive to our busy vet's office for this sad task. Dr. Humphries was a godsend to us. He was so kind and compassionate. He explained everything that he was going to do and put our minds at ease that Pearl was not going to suffer. Pearl was not stressed and in turn we were not stressed. Pearl's buddy dog was able to be there to give her some goodbye sniffs. Although it is always sad to put a pet to sleep, Dr. Humphries made the experience less painful because of his care and concern. Dr. Humphries, Had compassion, understanding and took the time to review Blitz's history. Its never easy making the decision but he provided great insight and information for us to make the right decision for our baby girl. Our dog Blitz gave us 12 great years and we are forever grateful for that. She was a special kind of sweet that I have never witnessed before. She fought through a lot of battles and still was ready to please. I thank Dr. Humphries for his kindness to her in her final moments and giving us time with her.
