Was pretty satisfied with my stay at Home2 Suites McAllen over winter break. Played in the chess tournament happening in a nearby conference center and Home Suites perfectly met our accommodation needs.

Cozy living space with bedroom privacy.

Home2Hilton gives such a warm inviting feel as if you are at home. We stayed two nights and loved it!. The staff is very friendly and professional but I was mostly impressed with the safety standards they have. They have saniter stations set out and the hot breakfast is set in either portion containers or made for you by order. The breakfast personal also ensured we had a full breakfast even though we showed up 1 minute before breakfast was closed. That's true service. I was also able to try the gym and was given complimentary headphones to listen to my jam since I forgot to pack mine! For convention guests. This place is located within distance to Mcallen Convention Center. Loved This place !!

I'm actually impressed on how clean and nice this hotel is. I've stayed at a couple around the area and they weren't so nice. The rooms are huge and have a small kitchen and living room with a pull out bed. The restrooms are roomy too. Service is great. The only thing that I did not like was the breakfast but other than that everything is great! Will be coming back to this hotel. The stay was great!

Excellent in terms of location, customer service, and comfort. I could not have asked for anything more. Located adjacent to one of my favorite hotels in all of McAllen (The Cambria) and across the street from the Rio Grande Valley airport, this Home 2 Suites is remarkably quiet (considering its close proximity to the airport + interstate) and conveniently located to restaurants & additional shopping locales. I greatly appreciated one of the front desk agents recommending the Grubb Hub application due to me arriving at the hotel with an appetite (I didn't want to leave the room that night due to fatigue). The room was up to expectations- clean, spacious, and without the paper-thin walls that echo every little sound or bed vibration. The property itself is private in a way that it feels as if it is surrounded by trees & foliage on all sides (with exception to The Cambria, of course). Plenty of parking around the entire building as well. Certainly one of McAllen's best hotel properties. Will certainly return when down in The Valley once again.

I am impressed! Fast, friendly check in! Room was huge, bright and comfortable, loved the black out shades, comfy beds and plenty of room to work out! Large TV with plenty of channel selections, large shower and sink area - all good! As an Ambassador member they left a very generous gift basket loaded with snacks and drinks which was a nice gesture! They have a bar downstairs and small restaurant though I did not try it! Great location, close to shops and restaurants! Will definitely stay here again!

UPDATE: 3 days after my review, I received an email from 'Giselle Perez' apologizing for the…read moreissues I experienced. Pretty much the standard 'we're sorry we didn't meet your expectations . . .' Then she also indicated she was going to add loyalty points to my account. Okay - good gesture - props for addressing and trying to 'make it right'. Then a few days later a pending credit to my credit card showed up in the amount Inwas charged for the room and I was really impressed . . . But the pending credit disappeared the next day . . . and no loyalty points have been added to my account. I contacted Marriott Bonvoy and was told that points like that post in a few days. So - unfortunately - this property made a bad experience even worse! The initial review: So - positives and negatives. After having WiFi, streaming and plug-in/USB issues at the last 3 Marriott properties we've stayed at, we figured we'd give this place a try since part of their business model is open-concept and technology. The outside of the property was nicely done with different life-sized statues. The inside was very open and looked nice. The staff at check-in were friendly. The room itself was very open concept - not my usual 'type' of room but it was actually good - very modern as well. Plenty of USB and plug-ins which was good. The bed was ok - not great - much softer than we generally like but not too bad. The pillows were heavy and full-sized -- a big plus given the industry trend towards tiny wimpy pillows. The one nightstand had a 'music station' that looked like and old-fashioned radio but which is designed to use your device to play music. Nice - but it took up 90% of the nightstand. The bathroom was fine - no issues at all - plenty of counter space and a shelf underneath. That's where the good parts end. Given the streaming issues we've had at Marriott properties lately we tried the streaming - and - it would not work. It simply would not go into any screen to allow signing in - not for any streaming platform. They sent someone to look at it and said they had to 'escalate' it. So - same story as the other properties, but it was worse here because the streaming and technology is a BIG part of their business model. So - we tried the 'regular' tv. Unfortunately, while the menu showed channels, there was no program guide so you literally had to flip through every channel to see what was on. Again, very disappointing especially given their business model. Then, at 3:47 am, we heard an extremely loud voice - sounded like they were in our room. We kinda freaked out and then we realized there was nobody in the room but it was clearly someone speaking VERY loudly from in our room. After turning on all the lights, we found the hotel's walkie talkie that they left behind the microwave when they were trying to fix the television/streaming. It was cranked up to max volume and someone was talking on it. Neither of us were able to go back to sleep and when we went downstairs to go to our morning meeting we took the walkie talkie to the front desk. Clearly they were confused but no real apology at all. So - once again a Marriott property has some issues. We are thinking it's time to cut ties with Marriott despite our rewards status with them. Something has really, really changed at Marriott properties the past year.

I had an extremely disappointing experience at Embassy Suites by Hilton McAllen Convention Center,…read moreand I would strongly advise others to avoid this location. Upon check-in, it was immediately clear that the room had not been properly cleaned. The bathroom was in poor condition, and to make matters worse, the shower drain was clogged, making it unpleasant and inconvenient to use. Later during our stay, after attending the evening reception, my family and I attempted to enjoy the pool and hot tub--one of the main amenities advertised. Unfortunately, both the pool and hot tub had vomit in them, making them completely unusable. This was not only disgusting but unacceptable for a hotel charging over $200 per night. What made the situation even worse was the complete lack of customer service and follow-up. I attempted multiple times to reach management, leaving my name and number with the front desk, but received no response for over two weeks. When I finally spoke with the manager, Edward Hernandez, the situation was handled very poorly. He stated that nothing could be done unless I had photo evidence of the vomit in the pool--an unreasonable expectation--and offered no compensation, refund, or even loyalty points. For the price paid, this experience was completely unacceptable. The hotel is poorly maintained, and the customer service is even worse. I have stayed at many Embassy Suites locations across the U.S., and this was by far the worst experience I've ever had. DO NOT STAY HERE. AVOID THIS DIRTY, POORLY KEPT HOTEL AT ALL COSTS.

(We got there Friday afternoon) His customer service wasn't the best but anyway moving on to the room we get to the room and turn on the AC (yes I know you need to give it time for the room to get cold) but after a couple of minutes of turning it on there was a lot of HEAT coming from the actual ac unit and smelled like something was burning! Me having 3 kids did not want them to smell that burning smell so i called William at the front desk and he told me he was going to switch me rooms. I turned off the ac and went downstairs. William then switched me to another room Right Next Door to the room that smelt like burn. 2. The new room was very poorly kept. The chair was broken. The ac was broken. There were black marks on the walls. After constantly fiddling with the ac it worked but at this point my kids were tired and ready to take a nap. So we stayed there. 3. Saturday; BOTH elevators were broken!!! This was just the icing on the cake for me. The elevator on the left was broken when we got there but the one on the right broke apparently Saturday and everytime we had to go to our room we had to go to the third floor with 3 kids. One is an infant so of course we had to go up the stairs carrying her! Keep in mind it's sooo hot outside and there NO AC IN THE STAIRWELL!!! 4. Finally, Sunday I was ready to leave this hotel! When checking out I showed all pictures to Marcelino (new front desk) (his attitude was much more empathetic and sweet) I always take pictures of things that were broken/wrong with the room the day I go to it. And he had no words for why the room was so poorly kept. Yes bed was comfy, location was the only good thing about this hotel but tbh I rather drive all over town to get to the mall or anything than to stay here again. Our room came attended by a gecko that hid in the air conditioning unit but the gecko did not bother us, nor did we bother it. And to my surprise, the TV is smart capable so you can watch Netflix and other apps. The gym is small, basically the size of my room. There's 3-4 treads, a scale, and free weights. There are no vending machines on the floors even though there are placards on the halls directing you to one. If you want a snack or soft drink there's a snack shop in the lobby. There's also a restaurant on site that's only open for breakfast and dinner. My only real issue with the hotel is that they have a serious problem with their keycards becoming deactivated. I had to go back to the front desk twice throughout my stay because my key stopped working. It's a known issue, the staff themselves had trouble reprogramming my key and said it's a very old system and the keys are sensitive. Aside from that, it's a solid choice for the area.

Whether its the exterior floral arrangements, or the interior furnishings within the dining area + front desk, this Hampton Inn gives you an almost-instant relaxing sensation. The room? I may be one of the lucky ones. I felt that I had one of the best rooms (if not the best) in the house with a well-designed suite. The desk bureau area stationed within the middle of the room served a dual purpose by also housing the flat screen television on a swivel that faced the bed. With a top floor, you can see a lot of the City of Mission, as well as nearby McAllen. Breakfast was decent. Don't have tremendously high expectations. This isn't an Embassy Suites-type of breakfast! Breakfast here is fairly basic with your eggs, waffles, toast, sausages, juices, etc. The coffee is actually fairly good (try the Robust flavor if you want stronger). Yet if you are a coffee snob like I am, walk your butt on over to the Starbucks within the Super Target next door. A regular Starbucks is also about a mile away as well. The front desk staff was absolutely wonderful, relaxed, and highly knowledgeable of where to go in town. Greatly appreciated the insight on the current construction along areas of Expressway 83 that caused traffic (yes, there is traffic in the Rio Grand Valley).
