Over the years the Valley has come and gone as a place of work - once again I find myself picking this area back up and I decided to look for somewhere new to stay within the Marriott brand and found this relatively ( within the last 18 months) new Aloft! I am impressed! Fast, friendly check in! Room was huge, bright and comfortable, loved the black out shades, comfy beds and plenty of room to work out! Large TV with plenty of channel selections, large shower and sink area - all good! As an Ambassador member they left a very generous gift basket loaded with snacks and drinks which was a nice gesture! They have a bar downstairs and small restaurant though I did not try it! Great location, close to shops and restaurants! Will definitely stay here again! read more

UPDATE: 3 days after my review, I received an email from 'Giselle Perez' apologizing for the issues I experienced. Pretty much the standard 'we're sorry we didn't meet your expectations . . .' Then she also indicated she was going to add loyalty points to my account. Okay - good gesture - props for addressing and trying to 'make it right'. Then a few days later a pending credit to my credit card showed up in the amount Inwas charged for the room and I was really impressed . . . But the pending credit disappeared the next day . . . and no loyalty points have been added to my account. I contacted Marriott Bonvoy and was told that points like that post in a few days. So - unfortunately - this property made a bad experience even worse! The initial review: So - positives and negatives. After having WiFi, streaming and plug-in/USB issues at the last 3 Marriott properties we've stayed at, we figured we'd give this place a try since part of their business model is open-concept and technology. The outside of the property was nicely done with different life-sized statues. The inside was very open and looked nice. The staff at check-in were friendly. The room itself was very open concept - not my usual 'type' of room but it was actually good - very modern as well. Plenty of USB and plug-ins which was good. The bed was ok - not great - much softer than we generally like but not too bad. The pillows were heavy and full-sized -- a big plus given the industry trend towards tiny wimpy pillows. The one nightstand had a 'music station' that looked like and old-fashioned radio but which is designed to use your device to play music. Nice - but it took up 90% of the nightstand. The bathroom was fine - no issues at all - plenty of counter space and a shelf underneath. That's where the good parts end. Given the streaming issues we've had at Marriott properties lately we tried the streaming - and - it would not work. It simply would not go into any screen to allow signing in - not for any streaming platform. They sent someone to look at it and said they had to 'escalate' it. So - same story as the other properties, but it was worse here because the streaming and technology is a BIG part of their business model. So - we tried the 'regular' tv. Unfortunately, while the menu showed channels, there was no program guide so you literally had to flip through every channel to see what was on. Again, very disappointing especially given their business model. Then, at 3:47 am, we heard an extremely loud voice - sounded like they were in our room. We kinda freaked out and then we realized there was nobody in the room but it was clearly someone speaking VERY loudly from in our room. After turning on all the lights, we found the hotel's walkie talkie that they left behind the microwave when they were trying to fix the television/streaming. It was cranked up to max volume and someone was talking on it. Neither of us were able to go back to sleep and when we went downstairs to go to our morning meeting we took the walkie talkie to the front desk. Clearly they were confused but no real apology at all. So - once again a Marriott property has some issues. We are thinking it's time to cut ties with Marriott despite our rewards status with them. Place is is not the easiest to get to at all, it's either a game of "Frogger" irl or endless U-turns. Once you get here the property is clean and has a neat little statue garden. A few small ones near the entrance and a couple of large ones that match the theme of the adjacent convention center. Once entering it's the standard Aloft template on the ground floor. If you've to one, you've been to most. Interior is pretty clean as well, lobby and rooms. However the lobby has a heavy perfume. Not sure if this covering something up or if management has a really bad case of head congestion. The biggest issue in the place is the fruit fly situation. I don't think I've ever seen an infestation so bad. It's localized to the lobby, and the bar is just a haze of them. It's at a point where they just need to cancel all reservations for a couple of days and exterminate and clean to stop the issue. As long you stay away from the lobby it's not a bad stay, and though annoying the only bug (well technically fly) problem is one were you like "at least it's not ...." read more

Not suitable for business travelers or people who like privacy. First, there is no where to get work done. The sleeping rooms do not have desks. While tables are available in the communal area in the lobby, it is also the seating area for a bar, and in the evening loud music blares from speakers all around. The hotel does not provide any quiet rooms elsewhere for work. Second, the sleeping room windows lack curtains. The hotel provides one opaque shade. So you can open the shade, which allows people walking on the sidewalk right outside your room a nice view of your bed (and you!) through a picture window. Or you can keep the shade closed and enjoy total darkness. Nothing in between, like a translucent curtain to let in light but keep out prying eyes. Hotel decor is "millenial dorm room" as exemplified by money-saving (for the Marriott Corporation) features such as the above-described absence of curtains, desks, and privacy for ground-floor guests, but also the absence of closets. In the interest of saying something nice, the makeup mirror above the sink is bright and large. read more

I stayed at this property in January 2025. Two days after I checked out, I received an updated statement with a $80.50 additional charge, I called the hotel and they stated that I damaged 6 washcloths with makeup. I later received an email with the breakdown of the charges and the quantity of the washcloths was increased from 6 to now 7. I was at the hotel 4 days and washed my face with the washcloths 4 days. I also used makeup wipes to remove my makeup prior to removing the makeup wipe residue from my face. I was told that they would provide me with pictures of the damaged washcloths only to have to ask for these pictures a minimum of 5 times before receiving the pictures. After leaving several messages with the front desk for the general manager, Jorge R. to call me, he only called me after I called Ruby Red, the property management company to obtain his direct line and email address. I also sent Jorge an email asking for pictures of said washcloths along with my thoughts regarding this situation. Jorge was adamant that I had ruined 7 washcloths and that I would be paying for them. Jorge Revilla double downed on charging me the $80.50 damage fee. Jorge was extremely rude and kept interrupting me not allowing me to speak. If my makeup was an issue staining washcloths, you would think I would have been charged more than this one particular time. I have Lifetime Platinum status with Marriott and I have stayed at Marriott properties 620 nights and never once have I ever been charged a damage fee.I filed a claim with my credit card company, opened a case with Marriott and contacted the Better Business Bureau as this charge was nothing more than a cash grab by this property. Only after contacting Marriott and the BBB did this property refund the $80.50. Read the google reviews, as I'm not the only guest they have attempted to charge for frivolous reasons. After staying at over 100 of Marriott properties, this is the last place I would stay. read more

This place is clean and located in a great location. They have breakfast burritos, coffee and tea each morning downstairs. They have a bar, pool table, chess,backgammon, connect four and other fun games in the lobby. The pool looks clean and the gym looks great! Highly recommend this hotel. Overall this is pretty typical aloft property, relatively new, relatively clean, with a good breakfast. I encountered one small and one large issue during my stay. The small issue was that they didn't have a room ready for me at 3:00. They said they would call me in ten minutes but never did and I had to go over and ask after 30 minutes. No apology. They gave me a "different room" since mine still wasn't ready. This led to my more significant issue. The national guard is staying here for at least a year. Whenever they come off their shift they take the stairs to check in with someone on the second floor. This meant, for me, that starting at 4:30 in the morning, the stairwell door (across the hallway from my room) slammed as they came in. This happened over and over for 30-40 minutes and completely disrupted my sleep. When I asked at the front desk they said they're looking into trying to soften the noise, but didn't apologize. I understand the guardsmen need to do what they need to do and they were otherwise very quiet in the hallways. But I don't understand the complete lack of concern for a guest displayed by the staff here. TLDR stay on the fourth floor and you'll probably be fine. But don't necessarily expect them to have a room ready for you at check in. read more

I stayed at the Aloft in McAllen last week for business. Room was clean and had as much space as I needed. Maria was especially helpful, including offering to have a driver take me to a local restaurant (or pick me up) and to take me to the airport. Great service.
