I love a good pedestrian area, and we as consumers are more likely to go in places when we can leisurely stroll. There was a music stage and a small area for performers, and a few areas with kid centered things. I really enjoyed that all the businesses were open at one time. I've been walking through Nulu before and tried to stop in a shop during the middle of the day only to discover its closed. This really welcomed people in but also made some areas a little crowded. Overall I'm looking forward to next year to see how they continue to expand.

Love the Madison Chautaqua Festival One of the best…read moredisplays of original artwork from throughout the surrounding states. Wine gardens and food everywhere lining the streets of Madison and the Ohio River! Of course I go for the art but there is one food vendor in particular that I have to visit and it's Miss Piggy's pork chop sandwiches! Without the best I've ever eaten..and the ribs are great too! It was a really hot summer day so I ate lightly and drank heavily! The wine garden had a delicious Sangria that made the heat tolerable, the more you drank the cooler the day ! If you really want a nice piece of original art this is the place! From stained glass, jewelry or Americana you'll find it here. The festival is great and so are the homes that line the roads of old Madison. Excellent preservation at its best! I never miss this event and I assure you if you go you'll return!

This twice-a-year event that only makes me love my neighborhood more and more!…read more The spring walk takes place the Saturday between Thunder and Derby (or the saturday before Derby, in the case of an Easter-induced longer pre-Derby Festival). The fall walk takes place mid-September, usually the weekend after Labor Day. Since Monnik has taken over the walk, things have changed a little bit. But it is still great! Hickory Street, on either side of Burnett, is closed off. There are two outdoor stages set up and bands play all evening and in to the night. In the event of inclement weather, sometimes the performances can be moved indoors at Monnik and maybe Checks. Beer tents, food trucks, cake walks, pull tabs, good music, good people, good times! The other neighborhood bars get in on the fun too, with bands and food or drink specials at spots like the MerryWeather, Nach Bar, Old Hickory Inn, and others. One of the houses near the center point of the walk area has outdoor backyard karaoke. I love this event, I love my neighborhood, and I love my neighbors!

The streets are closed to traffic , folks bring lawn chairs, there are picnic tables set up, which all makes for a fun, festive atmosphere. Food is available at Checks Cafe and a few other surrounding venues. Parking is on the street but usually available within a block of the venue. They typically have 3 or 4 Blues bands on Friday and that many more on Saturday. The event has been going on for years and the crowd is steady but not overbearing. So get a chair next time, sit in the street, listen to great music, catch up with old friends, have a beer and a brat and enjoy the BLUES. All for free, well music and sitting are free, beer not so much.

It's mostly just a set up of vendor tents, but also had live music, food from some great local restaurants, beer, a rock climbing wall, and some inflatables for kids. It's a free event, so it won't cost you anything to get in. We parked in the promenade lot and didn't have much of an issue. There were some cool vendors to look through, and some that were a bit gimmicky. They had a great variety of food from Waylon's Feed & Firewater, Lou Lou Food & Drink, SnowWhat, Nothing Bundt Cakes, and a bunch more! It's not really something I would spend all day at, but it's still a nice little summer event.

I was only there one day, but you can experience a lot in 10 hours. I had the best time of my life at the festival. It's located in a small town called Bardstown, but those of us Bourbon enthusiasts, we know it as the Bourbon capital of Kentucky. It is your typical festival style setup with white canopy tends lined up with both food, beverage and unique collectibles offered by local artists. They set up carnival food trailers on one end where you can enjoy all your typical carnival foods from burgers to hot dogs, BBQ, fried everything and of course can't forget the sugar confections of the ice cream trucks. I caution you to walk through this area without wanting to indulge in everything they offer. Adjacent to them was the main stage where local musicians entertained the crowds at all hours throughout the four day festival. Just because it says Bourbon in the name doesn't mean that is all that is offered as there were beer tents and may have been some wine options as well, but I did not head over to that area. I believe I even saw an entire field of bouncy houses for the kids. I decided to experience the festival from the VIP loft. Location on the third floor of a building containing bourbon history, I enjoyed the luxuries of their lounge, food at any given time and a private bar that would mix up your favorite bourbon style drinks (included in your ticket costs). The great part is you can spend time in the loft, head back down to the festival, enjoy the other festivities and the distilleries onsite offering specialty drinks using their bourbon (you do have to pay for these drinks and there was a ticket booth where you could purchase drink tickets). After an hour or so, I would head back upstairs and enjoy more food, drinks, relaxation along with the A/C and our own private bathroom. I kept going back and forth for the 10 hour duration of the festival that day. This is a must stop for any Bourbon enthusiast as it provides an opportunity to mingle with locals, out of state visitors, festival volunteers, local distilleries and you get to enjoy drinking bourbon while having food and listening to music. What is there not to love?

**Extremely Disappointed with the Kentucky Bourbon Festival 2026**…read more After spending thousands of dollars to attend the 2026 Kentucky Bourbon Festival, including purchasing VIP packages specifically because they were advertised as providing an elevated and exclusive experience, I have to say that this year's festival was an enormous disappointment\. The biggest issue was the **"exclusive bourbon" experience**\. When someone pays a premium price for a VIP package, there is a reasonable expectation that the bourbon selections will be genuinely special, thoughtfully chosen, and worthy of the price being charged\. Instead, the selections left me asking, *"This is what we paid thousands of dollars for?"* The bourbon offered did not come close to matching the expectations created by the VIP marketing\. What is even more frustrating is the apparent **lack of appreciation for the patrons who are spending serious money to attend this festival**\. VIP customers are not simply buying a ticket--they are investing thousands of dollars in the Kentucky Bourbon Festival, traveling, paying for hotels, transportation, meals, and additional events because they believe the festival will deliver a first\-class bourbon experience\. Those customers should be treated as valued patrons, not as an afterthought\. The festival seems to have lost sight of a very basic principle: **if you charge premium prices, you need to deliver a premium experience\.** Calling something "exclusive" does not automatically make it exclusive\. VIP customers should receive bourbon selections, access, hospitality, organization, and overall treatment that clearly justify the substantial additional cost\. Unfortunately, my experience in 2026 felt much more like paying a premium price for the *promise* of an exceptional experience rather than actually receiving one\. The Kentucky Bourbon Festival has built an incredible reputation and has the opportunity to be one of the premier bourbon events in the country\. But that reputation cannot be sustained by simply raising prices and attaching the word **VIP** to a package\. The people who are willing to spend thousands of dollars to attend deserve substantially better\. **For 2026, I cannot recommend the VIP experience\.** Until the festival demonstrates that it genuinely values its highest\-paying patrons and significantly improves the quality and exclusivity of its bourbon offerings, I will think very carefully before spending that kind of money on this event again\. **Premium price\. Premium promises\. Unfortunately, not a premium experience\.**

On my to-do list for next year: Go to the Boomtown Ball and Festival…read more And just as important: Get there early enough to enjoy the booths. I arrived at about 8 p.m. -- an hour before the headliner was set to take the stage. The sun was still out. But except for a handful of booths, everything else was already closed and torn down. And I had seen so many great shots on social media of makers and local shops that had set up at what is becoming a landmark fest for New Albany. I wish I could have made shopping a part of my Boomtown adventure. Some of the reasons the shopping hours should be extended: * Like I said, it was still sunny. No problems seeing the merch. * This event is only one day (so far). Asking vendors to stay open until the last concert shouldn't be too hard. * The in-between time, leading up to the last band, is a time when a large amount of guests are looking for a diversion -- a win for shopping. But Boomtown is definitely about more than shopping. And from what I saw, it excels in other areas: * The music was fantastic. From what I was told, local band Houndmouth and WFPK worked together to bring in the acts. * The final band was on time, which you don't see a lot. * Because this festival is still gaining steam, we were able to 1) find parking less than a block away and 2) get super close to the stage without having to push our way through a massive crowd. * This is such a great opportunity to explore beautiful downtown New Albany. * The police were so friendly! I'm looking forward to next year and spending all day in New Albany.
