Not that there is anything wrong with Hard Rock Cafe, except why would someone not eat locally? If you want a T-shirt, buy the local one. But I digress. I've since been to a few Hard Rock establishments, including the grand opening of the one on the New Jersey Boardwalk (It was the first time I met Donald Trump, and he arranged for Better Than Ezra to play for about 50 of us members of the working press.) I've also been to one in Mexico -- for a drink. And now in Italy -- for a drink. These restaurants are pretty much all the same, with kitschy rock memorabilia on the walls and plenty of opportunities to buy the T-shirt. They've always been clean, and the staff has always been friendly. In this case, we were seated, and our server flirted his way to our table. I certainly understand that, but not on my time. The beer was a Flea IPA, and it was just OK. Not that hoppy. I suppose ordering a beer named for the dude in the Red Hot Chili Peppers made me feel a little nostalgic though, despite that I've paid less for swill at Major League ballparks.

I couldn't countenance going here surrounded by good food. I'm not totally opposed to it it's a fall back. A Big Mac meal here was about 8 euro according to the menu board. I usually go to Mc Donald's overseas to use their toilets and WiFi although in Egypt I did have the food quite often as by Egyptian standards their food is haute cuisine. Yes Egypt is that grimly bad. Anyway this Mc D was packed and buzzing, mostly with young people, and this was low season; there wasn't a seat to be had with people standing outside waiting to get in to order. I'd not want to be here high season. So I joined the queue for the restroom. Thankfully, it wasn't a long queue but it wasn't a fast queue either then a staffer came in and opened a locked loo - it was obvious they had limited the number of available loos (dear knows why) and must have seen the queue growing and made an executive decision to open another. When he opened the loo something happened I'd never experienced before, and it jarred me somewhat. The staffer stopped the next in line for the loo in the queue and pointed over to me, gesturing me to go in, for which I was grateful. Wow, it also instantly dawned on me that I was at least twice as old as everyone else queuing and it was obvious- was I the cause of the opening of an otherwise locked loo? I was being offered the courtesy that age used to bring from the young automatically but so rarely now - a seat on public transport, being allowed to go ahead as a priority as happened here, patience and tolerance. I'd thought the era of good manners and kindness long dead and this gesture only served mostly to reinforce it - now when you get old you become invisible to the young. Thank you for this kindness Mc D Venice.

Not only is it convenient, plenty of seats that didn't charge you for the privilege of sitting down. But the prices are typical for McDonalds and not hiked up. The food is fast and the menu is bigger than what you would find in the US. Plant based options are available along with the regular menu. But like the rest of Europe, it was slightly smaller. During the summer, there are special items, in this case a beach towel for 5 euros if you buy a meal. Considering the coastal region, this is definitely something worth getting. This restaurant was clean and well kept and the staff has some English skills. Definitely a must if you want a meal at a reasonable price.

We were staying at Palazzo Veneziano (highly recommend) and wanted good food in a reasonable walk. To be fair we walk 5 or 7 miles during the day so our feet deserved a break. Bakaro was terrific! Ordered a bottle of Sicilian wine, the mussels, tuna tartare and it was good. Mussels were next level. Tuna was good but needed a bit of acid. Next up was pasta. Spinach and ricotta ravioli I and the carbonara both were al dente and amazing. Husband finished with sea bass en croute and it was really good. Ended with limoncello and some espresso drinks. Bread throughout the dinner was amazing. They had olive oil and balsamic in the table So we made a little dip.

For instance, he offered to grate pepper for them and he was kind of just like " let them figure it out whatever". Despite that, the fish lasagna here is amazing. I've never had fish lasagna before and instead of using cheese it's like a crawfish bisque With fresh pasta and chunks of fish. This was really good. Also, the trio appetizer had a braised octopus in polenta, and that was also delicious. Overall, everything was executed really well, especially the clams linguine and tiramisu. The ambience was very warm and inviting.

When my husband and I had just gotten back from a day trip to Bologna, we realized we were hungry for a late dinner. Ai Mercanti popped on my mind. I figured that reservations were required, but I took a chance and called the restaurant to see if they could accommodate us for a 9:30pm dinner. They told us to come right on down. Score! This restaurant was a hidden gem. Not only was it off the beaten path, but the food and service were excellent. We had an amazing experience. The servers were the nicest, and they were highly attentive. I overheard multiple waiters speak French fluently, so I thought it was impressive that they were tri-lingual with English, Italian, and French. This was one of the few places in Italy where I felt that the service team actually read the room. They knew when we were ready for the next course or when we wanted to finish dinner, so the pacing of each meal was impeccable and there was no dilly dallying around for the check. Each dish was a banger, and the portions were right-sized. I didn't feel overstuffed after a first, second, and dessert for once. We had the following: - Octopus with agretti (saltwort), grilled new potatoes, parsley oil and amaranth. I loved the simplicity of the flavors. - "Apparently" crispy egg, potato foam, Cantabrian anchovy. This is what a warm hug tastes like. GET THIS. - Cod in a lightly spiced coconut milk, lemongrass and coriander soup. Since Venice was a merchant hub for trading spices, I felt like I tasted more ethnic variety. For example, this was the first "Asian"-inspired dish I had in Italy. The cod was very tender, and the lemongrass coriander soup was a flavor party in my mouth. - Lamb chops, spring onion, curry sauce. The meat was tender. - Panna cotta, merengue, dulce de leche, salty peanuts ice cream. Each bite was a harmony of flavors and worked very well together. The panna cotta had a nice creamy texture. - Crème brûlèe. A beautiful, traditional classic dessert. They do this right.

Their menu is conceptually captivating and their food lives up to that standard, which is a pleasant sight. (Oyster: A) - Very fresh oyster, served with an mignonette sauce that adds a contrastive garlicky acidity that really flares up the palette! (Octopus Salad: A) - Lot's going on in this salad, but the guac packs an intense flavor bomb pairs well with the delicate seasonal produce and tender octopus. (Pigeon: C) - Dish looks apart and sounds conceptually interesting, but I don't think the ingredients work well together; given that the pigeon is boney and hard to eat, adding a thick barley gravy simply makes it harder to eat. I was hoping that the flavors could help highlight the beauty of the pigeon rather than dominate it in the case of the kumquat.
