We pulled in, parked, and entered the store. It's always a treat to go in as the store is well stocked, well lit and always clean. The young man that helped us at the counter was courteous and informed us of the soups that were available that day. Borscht I think might be a staple here, and the other offering was Mulligatawny, which we have made at home. Our soup and sandwiches ordered with the choice of back, or side bacon, we went to the bistro area to await our lunch. Prior to stepping away however our bacon was cut fresh from the side. Who does that? Needless to say our sandwiches and soup were delicious, and from the looks of it we weren't the only ones that have discovered this gem. Another redo while in Kelowna or Vernon? You betcha, and we can't wait!

Thanks to her trip, we received a 'sampling' of tasty treats -- liverwurst, weisswurst, and European wieners. The gifted offering was directed primarily to her Mom -- definitely the one who knows, and is able to really savour the distinctive flavours of these kinds of meats. And she sure did. I managed to target the weisswurst, and ensured we enjoyed a meal together with this sausage. It is a sausage favourite of mine, and I really enjoyed their product - creamy in texture, and rather 'lighter' in flavour. I could enjoy that sausage often, and in so many ways. At this time, that included one taste of sweet & savory, open-faced sandwiches -- made with slices of weisswurst sausage on cinnamon rolls -- tried before the sausage was gone. It looks like their cold cuts are more than just German ones (European in general) and actually, I found that they are missing a lot of the favorites I grew up eating from Germany. Maybe it was the day I was there? It was a Saturday in the later part of the morning so they may have already been out. There's a bakery next door that also has a lot of great European rolls/breads and even desserts but also mixed in are North American treats as well so as much as this probably started out as an authentic German bakery and deli, it's now turned into a heavily German influenced bakery and deli. Still, for Kelowna, it's a good find for German products. Like many German delis, prices on packaged goods are obviously high as they are imports but where else are you going to find these products anyhow? The place is busy, kept clean, and the staff was helpful. A bit of confusion with the numbering system when we were there, but it happens.
