I saw the response from Homeguard in Novato, CA, and one thing I am not nor ever will be is "confused". 1. I have never spoken to or dealt with the woman who responded on their behalf. She is only speaking with the assumption of what she heard from her co-workers. She is missing context. 2. As a CUSTOMER, I shouldn't have to ask for something to be resolved four and five times to no avail. The fact that my concerns passed through at least 3 - 4 levels of management and THEN and ONLY THEN was I offered the chance to have them come back out again and resolve the issue speaks volumes to how this company conducts business. Even the QC Inspector that returned said, "UGHH! Why did they do it THAT way?!", when I showed him pics of the repaired work. I'd be a fool to let them get back on my roof a third time and leave without fixing the issues. 3. If you are a potential customer, please pay attention to the majority of the other positive Yelp reviews. They have absolutely nothing to do with actual repair work; but instead heavily deal with realtors or homesellers participating in the initial inspections to sell a home. Inspection and repair are two separate aspects in their operation. 4. If a business you pay money to has to escalate any concerns outside the parameter of "conducting good customer service" to multiple people at multiple times during a project, then the structure of that business is being mishandled and they are wasting time. Homeguard did not meet our needs and did not seek to resolve anything in a professional or timely manner. The very first person should have handled this and moved on. 5. I immediately got second opinions via online pictures of the work they performed and other roofers were actually going to charge me to repair the repairs. Imagine that! 6. I will continue to periodically give bad reviews of this company, through word of mouth, at conferences, in school, online, in forums, and anywhere else this topic comes up for me. They're available for our clients for questions and are very customer service oriented. They will discuss questions at no extra charge. They will also come back to inspect spaces that were unavailable. Our rep, Angela Burrows, always goes above and beyond to help with any issues or to help us get appointments quickly when we need them by a certain day. She's a great problem, solver and always aims to be of assistance. We've used Homeguard for several years now. Their reports are fairly easy to read with corresponding photos. Beware of this company. I bought a house in Healdsburg in June and used HomeGuard to do the home inspection. They found some deterioration of the exterior wood siding in two places and in a post by the front door, and gave us a quote of $2,145 to repair all of it. We asked and the sellers agreed to pay for these repairs in full. When the repair person arrived, he discovered that the problem is much more extensive than the inspector identified and left - presumably because the quote was not enough to cover his costs - after doing more damage to the wood siding and post. HomeGuard then sent a different inspector out when I wasn't present who said that it was all damage that HomeGuard couldn't see even though the siding is all external and accessible, it's at the front door, and the repair person identified the problem in 5 minutes. Because I trusted that they (1) are competent and experienced, and (2) had an incentive to give me a comprehensive repair quote, I completed the home purchase believing that I had done what a reasonable home buyer should do before making a very large investment. Now I'm stuck with thousands of dollars in repairs that I expected HomeGuard to identify. If they failed to find something at the front door, then what does it mean about the crawl space? To make a bad situation worse, they scheduled, rescheduled and missed three different appointments to meet me in person to discuss a satisfactory resolution. I'm now so wary of the company and its lack of integrity that I don't want them to do the repair which of course they haven't offered. read more

We did an inspection of our house prior to selling it. They came did an inspection, gave us price of 805$, after I called them to pay the bill they charged me with 200$ more stating that their employee doesn't know the price. I then spoke with Angelique Martinez kinda manager, OMG SHE IS THE WORST EMPLOYEE IN THIS COMPANY! After explaining the whole situation, she clearly said " let's not speak back and forth, I'm just gonna sent your bill to a collection company" . She didn't even try to resolve the problem. Maybe she has personal issues, but you don't treat your customers that way. Very rude and unprofessional stuff. Angelique, you need more training girl. Update: 02/27/2020. I called them yesterday one more time, because their manager never called me back after I left a voicemail. Spoke with lady, she told me that they will give me a discount and I ended up paying 959$ instead of 1069$. But I'm not gonna change the rate because of Angelique Martinez. In February 2019 moved into a new home where Home Guard had performed an inspection the previous year. Eight days after I moved into my new home I discovered it was infested with a huge mound of termites inside the home. A giant nest was in the kitchen and the insects had spread to all areas of the first floor. Needless to say, this was a huge shock to me. I don't now how such a gigantic infestation could have been ignored by the previous tenants and their real estate agent. So far I am out a bundle to money for treatment and new floor. Prior to purchasing our property, HomeGuard came three times - once for an initial assessment, once to service the house based off the recommendations from the initial assessment, and once again after the repairs were made for a final assessment. After their final visit, HomeGuard gave us the all clear. Less than two months after their inspection, we experienced heavy rains and a leak in our roof. After calling an inspector, we were told the entire roof needed to replaced, which will cost us well over $5,000. I have no idea how HomeGuard managed to charge us over $400 to make home repairs and tell us that our roof would be good for another 5 to 6 years! What a lie. I hired Homeguard to do a roof, termite and home inspection so I could get a head's up on repairs needed. The initial experience with scheduling for the roof and termite guys was super easy. Both showed up on time. The roof man was here for a very short time and that was that. He did not go up on the roof but used a drone instead. Super nice guy, gave a great explanation and showed me photos of my roof. Short, sweet and done in what seemed like 15 minutes or so. The termite guy was another story. Bad attitude, seemed to really hate his job, did not show me any photos and gave NO explanation or anything. He refused to look in my attic as he said it wasn't safe. I recently had planks put down in my attic to ensure safety and paid a reputable company to do it. He did not use a tarp when going into the crawl space, brought up dirt and did nothing to clean up. He left a mess for us to clean after. This guy was just not nice and I still HAVE NOT received his written report. After a few calls to the company to check on my upcoming appointment for my basic home inspection, I was told there was no record of the appointment! I know we made one because it's part of the job, but the guy on the phone was adamant and didn't even know I already had 2 of their guys out. After talking to his supervisor, I was able to get a next day appointment, as rebooking for the following/ month was not an option. ALL was forgiven after Dean and Dave showed up today to inspect my home. These two guys should be teaching professionalism, manners and customer service to everyone in the industry! They were Stellar. They arrived on time with positive attitudes and smiles under their masks! They were so polite, I felt totally safe having them poke around in my attic (which they had no problem entering!), crawling in the minimal crawl space under the house, looking under sinks and doing a very thorough job. Once they were done cleaning up, Dean sat with me and showed me all the excellent and detailed photos to carefully explain everything. He was so kind, really explained things well and really gave me more than I expected in information and knowledge about my house. I cannot praise him enough! Thank you Dean and Dave for being excellent at what you do and offering THE BEST customer service. I highly recommend these two for your home inspection! read more

Recently purchased a home where Homeguard had done the pest inspection and had identified some minor repairs to fix fungus damaged wood. While I initially had some issues with the subcontractors who first stopped by (weren't communicating with me), Homeguard went above and beyond to make things right. I got great customer support from both the inspector as well as managers at the office. Had new subcontractors out the next day who did a great job. If I had been working directly with the subcontractor, I probably would have been screwed here. I was ready to put a home on the market and the seller was not sure if he wanted a new 2 car garage door or leave the rotted old one. We called around and the bids were between $1000 and $1200 so the seller decided not to get a new door. I recently had one installed on my home and it was $1,000 for materials and labor. After escrow opened the buyer ordered inspections through Homeguard. Homeguards bid was $2400 on the pest report for a new 2 car garage door. There prices are waaaaaay to high to fix something.... I called the manager about this and he said ohhh. ( Basically they got caught inflating there pricing) Since they got caught they did lower that bid to $1700 but still $500 to $700 more than it should have been. I purchased a home this past April (2020) where HomeGuard had done the home "inspection". When June arrived and it started getting a lot hotter, I started using the central AC - which promptly overloaded the main electrical panel and caused the entire house to power-cycle every 5 minutes, resulting in a $4000 repair. Nothing even approaching this was mentioned on the report for this home "inspection", even though they _claimed_ to have inspected the electrical system. Seriously - stay away from this company. Being a first time home buyer, I was already overwhelmed with the whole process. Thank goodness for Homeguard because they helped me out so much. My Esgrow period was shortened due to what the seller wanted in order for them to accept my offer so all the deadlines if my contingencies were pushed up. I am so glad that I called them to help me out with the inspection. They were able to accommodate me as soon as possible including a free roof inspection since I ordered a property and termite inspection. Moving towards the inspection day, they were able to inspect everything on the same day and at the same time. The termite inspector showed up early and began inspecting the outside right away before my realtor showed up. The property inspector came by a little later but was able to complete a thorough inspection. We didn't need to be there for the roof inspection! Which was great. After each inspector finished, they would go over generally what was found and provided some suggestions on how to fix things. Another awesome thing was that their reports are sent to you the same day! They are starting this customer satisfaction program which is great. Definitely give them a call for an inspection.
