    Glazed cinnamon donut

What a wonderful surprise in small town America! Homer's is two shops in one: Bakery (yum) and deli (double yum). Our first stop was the bakery, where we picked up way too many treats and justified it as breakfast for post-marathon and another two days. That counts, right? Actually, we were there on buy a coffee, get a donut free day - something we didn't know until after we bought an apple fritter, cinnamon roll, glazed cinnamon roll and a turnover, plus two coffees. Sure, give us two more donuts. What could be wrong with that? All of them were delicious - loved the turnover the most. Perfect pastry and sugar crunch. Fine, back we went for real food in the deli. Our turkey clubs came with side salads and we both had instant flashbacks to 50 years of church potlucks. This is not a bad thing. Eat a good church lady pea salad or pasta salad and you'll understand what we're saying. We also ordered a blarnie, because we'd never had one. It's homemade yellow cake, cut into a square, frosted with homemade buttercreme icing, and rolled in ground salted peanuts. It was unique and amazing. Only downside is Homer's is located in Clinton, Iowa - not exactly a place we'll be passing through on a frequent basis. :( When you go, eat a blarnie for us please.

Homers has a great home town feel to it. Saw many people who knew each other having conversation. I Had the Reuben and potato bacon soup and it was really good. I also indulged in some cake and bought some cookies from the bakery. I would come back.

    a birthday cake

I ordered a birthday cake for my husband over the phone. My husband loves frosting!! Sweetheart did NOT let him down! It was absolutely PERFECT!!! He said it was just the right amount. When we come to town Sweetheart is always a stop we have to make. Thank you for never letting us down!

If you haven't tried it, it's a must! Family favorite that is a local staple! Can't find nicer employees anywhere! If you have a sweet tooth, well then you probably have already been here! Great for events or just pop in and grab a bite. I have many food allergies and they have always been very accommodating!

Best doughnuts in town as well as cookies. And the ladies are so nice. I will continue to come back for my breakfast.

My first experience with her? I called to order a smash cake for my baby's first birthday. I sent my budget and a reference photo like any normal parent would (which was the most simple and plain cake that I actually ended up making myself but better) and she laughed -- actually laughed -- and said, "Let me put it like this, you're asking for a BMW cake on a Honda budget." That's what she said to a first time mom and first time customer. I was disgusted. That moment told me everything. She acts like she's doing people a favor by taking their money. The desserts are mediocre, the food is a joke, and her public responses to reviews are even worse...petty, defensive, and dripping with the same arrogance I heard on the phone. Then there's her social media.. full of cringe-worthy videos that make you wonder how someone can be this unaware of their own attitude. And apparently she orders Instacart and doesn't even tip. It's all the same energy: take, brag, and belittle. If she ever treated customers with even a fraction of the respect they deserve, she might actually have a good thing going. But for now, her reputation matches her product.. stale and hard to swallow.

My Cobb salad had the perfect balance of mixed greens with all of the good stuff - chicken, blue cheese,... I usually end up with a pile of leftover lettuce after I pick out the best bits lol. We saw another table order a piece of chocolate cake so we got one to go. We enjoyed it later and it was divinely chocolately without being too sweet. I even liked the frosting which I usually remove because it's too sweet! I will definitely be returning next time I'm in DeWitt!!! Thanks for a great lunch! Wish I had snapped some pictures!

Most was barely warm except chicken was hot if taken from the middle. No French Toast available maybe kids should have asked for few pieces. Possibly using smaller aluminum serving containers would keep things warm. Homemade cinnamon rolls or brownies would have been nice for a dessert rather than just store bought pastries and donuts. We did like the fresh fruit and yogurt for parfait. It will be nice to try the regular menu during the week when we travel by next week.
