I'm a student and I need to get my brakes fixed on my car. I tried calling and nobody answered the phone. The message said to text instead so I texted and set everything up two days in advance. I dropped my car off. I took $40 in Lyfts to and from school, and after 5 1/2 hours, nobody even looked at the car. When I got there to pick it up, nobody was even in the office. Nobody cared that I was wandering around looking for my car. Nothing was done except I spent $40 in lifts when I didn't need to. What a waste. read more

I dropped my car off which had a battery issue of some kind (it wasn't the actual battery which was new). I dropped it off on Saturday and they had it ready Tuesday (I wasn't in a rush this didn't seem like too long to me). When I came to get the car they told me they fixed battery cables at no charge. Hard to find people like this nowadays. And makes me think they will be fair when charging for more involved repairs. Will definitely be back! read more

With my recent car inspection overdue by a day I frantically was looking for a reliable place to get it in and inspected as soon as possible. I have heard of Homer's quite a lot from a friend and how reliable they are. So I took a chance, called them near closing of the day and they were able to squeeze me in first thing in the morning. I decided to wait for my car to be done and it took less than a hour to have it in, inspected and back out. Didn't try to 'find' something wrong with it to pinch some more money out of me. I've taken my car here twice now. The first time was a muffler problem which they fixed while I waited (~1 hour). The second time was because my car was making weird noises after getting new springs back at home. Being a college student who's on her own for the first time with car maintenance, I felt very well taken care of here. They checked the concerns I had talked to the guys about and when I went to pick up the car, they didn't charge anything. I've been going to Homer's for my repair and inspection needs for the past four years with excellent service every time. I recently drained my car battery and after getting a jump I brought it in to Homer's to get it recharged, after only calling them not that much earlier about it. Not only was done within a couple hours, they double checked my related systems to make sure it wasn't another issue and then they didn't even charge me for it, even after I insisted. My car had been lying idle for about 3 months. Came to Homer's for a check up before shipping it out to the west coast. Got the engine oil change flushed and tires rotated as well. This was my first time at Homer's. I typically go to Walter's, but I was on a tight schedule and Homer's was able to accommodate me. I was really impressed by the fact that they uncovered an issue which had been there for a long time but no one had discovered it - worned out wheel bearings. My car always used to make a loud sound while driving and was a bit shaky while braking at high speeds. Neither Walter's nor the authorized mitsubishi dealer were able to figure it out. While Homer's pointed this out, I wasn't able to get it fixed because they didn't have the parts and it wouldn't arrive in time for me to ship it out. I shall update this review based on whether the problems get fixed upon replacing the wheel bearings. read more

Came here again for a scheduled oil change. Arrived promptly at 9:00 am and informed the gentleman working that I was going to wait for it to be complete, so I could take my car to work. He made my car a priority, and I was out of the door by 9:20 am. I was so impressed with their kindness, and how genuine they are. Although I hope to not return again soon (who wants their car worked on?!), I will absolutely think of Homer's when I need something else done with my car. read more

I have taken my old Maxima (10 years old) to Homer's for years (inspections, brake repairs, exhaust work.) I really trust that I am not going to be ripped off (as I have been at car dealerships.) Very honest, straightforward. One bad experience (with tires) but they have more than made up for that with all the free repairs. Yes, sometimes stuff was just fixed. Examples: 1) first time I took my car there for an inspection. I had this annoying rattle (probably the heat shield.) Like magic, gone. 2) my power seat was not working. I didn't even mention this or ask about having it fixed. My car was there for another reason. When I picked up my car, the seat worked. 3) Another time: the fuel door to my gas tank was busted, wouldn't close properly and jammed. Now I can close the lid. Okay, it doesn't pop-out like new but it does the job. No reason I should be given this type of service (like a family member, a little old lady, a priest, or a Steeler.) I am just some dude who knows nothing about cars. One thing: you need to be patient when picking up your car. Sometimes, no one is the office and you have to wait. So, if you expect concierge service with a valet, then go elsewhere. This is Greenfield. read more

Very nice to me. Took me right away. Looked at my brakes and told me nothing was wrong with them! Great news. Waiting area is minimalist, decor uh not modern. No coffee. There's a basic coffee shop a few doors up. On a nice day you can walk to Squirrel Hill to someplace fun while you wait for your car. I am very happy with Homer's. My husband and I just moved to the area and needed to get our PA inspection and emissions done as well as a general tune-up. I turned to Yelp, and Homer's was the closest place with good reviews. They got me in four days after I called (not bad for everything I needed). It turned out the car was in worse shape than I thought, but they were very honest about everything and still got it all done within the day - much appreciated, since it's our only car. I also appreciated that (as a lady there by myself) I was treated like anyone else, since I've experienced patronizing attitudes from auto shops, car dealerships, etc in the past. Bob even offered to send someone to pick me up when he learned I'm pregnant and would be walking back to get the car, but it was only half a mile. :) All of this is good service, but not way above and beyond what I'd expect from a respectable business. But! The next day, I noticed that some body damage (front bumper was detached and hanging a couple inches off the passenger side) had been repaired! They neither said a word nor charged me. They are nice and seem honest, but consider two things: 1) their prices are quite high 2) They used reconditioned parts when replacing my starter, and didnt tell me or give me a choice. 1 year later, the parts they used broke and I had to have another shop do the same job. read more

Homers was able to get me in for my state inspection pretty quickly and only cost $65! They said that MOST repairs and inspections that go into the shop are done the same day - so no rental needed! Turns out that I needed work on my brakes (which I had been suspecting) and they did the repair. From what I know, they gave me a pretty good price. JR was really informative and patient. After he gave me the quote for two rotors and four brake pads, I called around to other places to see how they were. HOWEVER, I accidentally dialed them again asking for a quote and it was super embarrassing because he recognized it was me! He was really nice about it though. Short story, they have great reviews, did good work, and were more affordable than the other places. I really appreciated that they didn't try to force me to replace all four rotors like Baum's Blvd Mechanic tried to do. In the end, it cost a little more than the quote though, so that star isn't there :/ read more

I've been going to Homer's for car repairs and inspections since 2009 after a friend recommended them. I moved away for a couple of years and never found another service station close to this place, so by the time I moved back recently, my car was a hot mess. Just before taking my car back to Homer's recently, I made the mistake of taking it two other places within walking distance to my home. I don't think either of them even drove it because neither got it right. I had to take it back three times for one place to get it right and caught the owner in a lie. That never happens at Homer's. JR and his crew are professionals who care about their customers. JR won't overcharge you. He won't try to sell you something you don't need. He doesn't act like women are stupid and know nothing about cars. He won't make fun of how filthy your car is. ;) (Mine was pretty bad.) When I took my car in, it was for inspection. It didn't pass. Needed new tires, which I really couldn't afford, but JR gave me a list of four or so options at different price points. I also asked him to look at the repairs the other shop had done because I was about to head out on a 5,000 mile road trip to take my kid to college. They checked the car out and made sure it was ready for the trip. When I returned, I took the car back to get the tires rotated and an oil change, and JR did something very nice for me because he knew I was sad about my kid being so far away. Priceless, right? Others have commented on how wonderful JR and his guys are, so my story is just another that proves that. I won't ever take my car anywhere else. The little diner down the street mentioned by other reviewers is a great place to hang out and have breakfast while you wait. There's also a bus stop at the corner. But hanging out in the office, talking to JR (between phone calls) ain't a bad way to spend some time, either. I'd do it more often if my car weren't fixed, now. :) read more

I see people complaining about the coffee at repair shops, or whining about the decor in the waiting area. Good Lord. None of this matters. It's great if the mechanics are nice, but let's be fair, they're busy. Do you want your car done on time, or do you want them to schmooze and bring you a croissant? What matters is technical ability, and fairness. An honest mechanic is hard to find, and it can take years of searching to find one. It can be a super-expensive search as well. This is a reputable shop that charges fair prices, and gets the work done right the first time. What more do you want? Fast, cheap, done right- I was taught you get to pick two. I'm a bad car owner. I forget to get it inspected until it's expired every year. Twice now I've driven my brakes down to the rotors. I forget to change my snow tires out until the heat on the roads starts to melt them down. And despite all this, JR and his crew at Homer's have been patiently nursing my car back to health for six years now. They're family-owned, proud of being part of the greenfield community, and they've always been able to repair my car either same day or next day. And trust me, it's a 12-year-old car, it always needs something. The prices have always been fair, and way lower than what I paid elsewhere for the same work before moving to Greenfield. Once, my parents came to visit from Cincinnati and their car kept giving them a low tire pressure light, so we brought it to Homer's and they found a nail, removed it, and repaired the tire. He recognized me and said "she gives me enough money" and didn't charge us for it. Another time, when I was sitting waiting for my car, an older woman brought her car in to get the pressure in her tires checked. It's something I wouldn't think to do, but for someone less limber than me I imagine checking tire pressures at the gas station is not-so-trivial. He did it, topped up her tires, and she tried valiantly to pay him but he wouldn't let her. Homer's has me as a customer for life. read more

Truly AWESOME service. Discovered my tire had a bad leak. Called Homer's to see if this is something they could help me with. Mechanic said to bring it in anytime and they would take care of it. I arrived to the shop maybe 30 minutes later. They had my car in a bay within 10 minutes despite how busy they were. The leak ended up coming from the valve stem gut. They tightened it for me and had me back on the road with NO CHARGE since it was a quick fix!! That's good business. The guys were polite and professional. I will be back for future maintenance and other car needs. Highly recommend using them for any car troubles. read more

I chose this place because it had good reviews but I left very disappointed on both occasions. The service inside is very slow and you can be left in the waiting room for almost 20 minutes! The services are very overpriced, a tire rotation and oil change cost me over 90$ when the other shops I have since gone to charge about 40$ for the same service. They also refilled my AC and I asked them to check for leaks but apparently they did not as it all leaked out within two days leaving me with a hefty bill. read more
