While I was already disappointed in this unexpected cost doubling, the icing on the cake was that I wasn't asked if I wanted to proceed with the repair. I was just informed that the cost had jumped, that the repair was complete, and that I now needed to pay up. This suggested to me that the original assessment of the damage had not been as thorough as it could have been. While a quote is an estimate, not a certainty, it's not good practice for businesses that run on quotes to let customers pay twice what they were originally expecting. In this situation, for instance, I would have appreciated a discount on the unexpected new part. That might have eaten into their profit margin, but it would have guaranteed that I would become a return customer, whereas now, I am not so sure.

I think they were mad because I didn't want to get the work done and was trying to save money, but they ended up sabotaging my hood latch, disconnecting the release cable from the hood latch mechanism, making it impossible to pop the hood. I ended up having to remove the grill and the latch mechanism completely to solve it myself.
