I love home decor. I like changing pillow covers/pillows seasonally, sometimes rugs too. Bedding, as well. I have had to rely on stores like HomeGoods for kitchen gadgets, flower pots, garden stuff, sheets, towels, etc, since Tuesday Morning closed their stores. HomeSense has a large selection of furniture, lamps, art, and other accessories, as well as kitchenware. This particular time, I was on a mission. I needed a fabric-covered lidded box in navy and white. The search had so far proved fruitless. Marshall's had one box, in sage green with peach flowers. I went to HomeSense, and they had a blue and white lidded box! They also had gluten-free Italian pasta! I looked at the framed art, because I need a frame (not art) in a particular size for a canvas painting, but there wasn't one in the size that I needed. It's generally less expensive to buy framed art on clearance, keep the frame, and donate the art, than it is to buy an empty frame elsewhere. Strange but true. On a previous visit, I found two battery-operated wall sconces, which were exactly what I needed for my dining room. I also found some pink flamingo things, which were inexpensive and irresistible. I was also looking for one tier curtain, but they only had floral sets. I may have to sew one myself. They did have a huge selection of curtain panels. I spoke with one associate and the cashier, and they were both very pleasant. Prices are generally very reasonable, and they usually have a great selection of almost everything. It's similar to HomeGoods, but has much more furniture and lamps. There were some beautiful leather club chairs, which I may be able to use in the future. Another in the endless sea of suburban discount home goods stores. My wife loves cruising through these places and is able to find useful housewares, furniture and accessories. It's hit or miss and requires multiple visits to find things that fit the bill. As far as I'm concerned, spending time in a store like this is like being consigned to one of Dante's circles of hell. I'm not the target audience, though. If you like cruising and schmoozing and are patient, go for it. They should have a husband's area that serves stiff drinks and shows sports on big screen TVs. read more

Three stars? Heck no. Love this oasis in the desert of the east end for shopping for household items. Next door and part of Homesense is Homegoods and Marshalls. Though it is a step up it succeeds in bringing the east end seasonal, house wares, decor and furniture. Best selection of small or full sized rugs out here also. I went for the first time last night shortly before closing. Everything was well organized and easy to find. They have a color coordination way of organizing that draws the eye in and you can shop more strategically if that makes sense. The store itself is huge and their quantity of items didn't fill the store. Perhaps they are working on restocking. I purchased a few items. Photo frames, a jewelry organizer, candles and a garbage bag organizer. I would visit again if in the area. The workers were all friendly. But I would like to find a location closer to me. read more

I come to this home sense all of the time however my last experience was very unpleasant. I shopped for my items and when I approached the register to checkout I was greeted with "are you okay" for no apparent reason. As I was searching through my wallet for my gift card the cashier Margaret said it was too late to pay with a gift card after only a minute. I was confused as why it was too late as she never asked if I had a gift card or not or how I would be paying. She then said next time you should approach the counter with my gift card in hand and tell the cashier immediately that I'm paying with a gift card. I have never experienced this scenario in a retail store and it was apparent that she had made a mistake and not only that but was deliberately trying to put the mistake on my hands. Margaret was very rude and I don't plan on shopping at this location again. read more

Homesense is new to Riverhead, located right next to Homegoods and Marshall's. I believe they are all affiliated. If you are familiar with Homegoods, Homesense is similar but there are some noticeable differences. The lighting section is huge and most lighting is displayed in pairs. Definitely worth a look if you are in the market for table lamps. A lot of the time at Homegoods I find it hard to find a set. Their rug section is also pretty impressive. They have a large selection which makes it easier to find matching rugs in different sizes, something I've never found in Homegoods. They also sell a lot of furniture. You can buy a complete dining set here. Barstools are displayed in large groups as well, making it easy to find a set. This store is organized a lot more like a Target where everything has a place. If you like the hunt, you will most likely enjoy this store but it should be easier to find what you are looking for. It's a lot more orderly. I really enjoy the book section. It's not large but I have found some treasures. I recently scored 2 interior design books that were selling on Amazon for more than 3x the price. I saved over $100! For the most part this store is too mainstream/trendy for me. I like my home to be a reflection of my personality. I don't like seeing the same items in my friends homes. It will mostly be a resource for books to add to my collection, a stop I'll only make if I have time and am in the area. On a side note, I'm curious to see if both Homegoods and Homesense survive. They do sell a lot of the same stuff and they are right next door to each other. read more

The equivalent of a toy store but for adults! Furniture, home decor, everyday essentials, and eclectic gadets and gizmos! You can spend hours in here. They do a good job keeping everything neat and organzied. The cashiers are very friendly and efficient. The only reason I give 4 stars is because the a/c doesn't seem to be working and everytime I shop in there I'm sweating buckets. read more

Im giving 1 Star because I can't believe this store has not figured out how to arrange delivery for clients. You walk into this amazing store with amazing stuff, you get to the checkout counter, and they say here is a sheet of paper, you call them to figure it out and we are not affiliated at all. I had the delivery person miss a piece and no one would take responsibility even though Home Sense owns the handoff. How can you open a store that sells large furniture pieces and not figure out how to provide your clients a seamless delivery experience. If they figure out delivery I would move my stars to 5 because the store is great and they had amazing pieces at great prices. I hope management does something about this!! read more
