Nice shop just around the corner from Ithaca Commons. They have a wide selection of fabrics and yarn. I saw a nice selection of Rowan, Brown Sheep, Cascade, Berroco, Isager, etc. The owner was very helpful and I found quite a few things I liked. We were on our way out of town and she was kind enough to give us a local map and give us directions to a local park. Great experience! Definitely will stop again next time I'm in town. read more

This little store is tucked in near The Commons. They carry a large variety of yarn. They also have fabric, knitting books & more. I think one can easily spend a lot of money in here. I picked out three skeins of yarn and went slightly over my $50 gift card. A lot of time goes into making yarn though, so it is understandable. read more

I would be hard-pressed to give ANY yarn shop less than a stellar review because, well, it's YARN, people! I doubt many people just stumble in with no idea what to expect - you get The Flock! The people who know about the tactile loveliness and the riot of color that is yarn shop! Seriously, I first visited several years ago. I live about an hour away from Ithaca, but whenever I'm around, Homespun is on the itinerary. I was newly widowed, in need of comfort, and yarn is good for your soul. It's a darling little shop, and there were mittens made from bulky yarn, very rustic, in the display window. What could be more soothing than mittens? I went in. The rest is hazy, due to time passing and the spell that comes over me in any yarn shop - I wake up in my driveway with my credit card in my hand and a trunk full of yarn... weird, huh? I do recall that I purchased some bulky red wool and dpn's the size of firewood, and it turned out that I already had the pattern in a book at home. I remember fondling some oilcloth with a retro floral print that I dug, and I'm quite sure I purchased more than just mitten wool - nice selection at prices you would expect to pay for quality yarns. Cozy atmosphere, helpful proprietor, just what I needed at just the right time - we should all hang mittens in our windows all winter! The world would be a better place! read more

Very nice store, classics with a mix of more interesting yarns you don't see everywhere. Harrisville Highland yarn, for example, and some nice alpaca that's to die for. I don't sew, so I can't review the fabric, but I really enjoy shopping there. Be warned, though, they don't take credit cards, it's cash or check only. read more

Great store for knitting yarn, patterns, needles, etc. Plus very beautiful fabrics for sewing, all in a not very big store in the heart of downtown Ithaca. Because it has such high quality products they are of the price you would expect. The owner is always helpful and will order things if they don't have it in stock. I try to stop by at least once a year, even though I am only in town during the summer. read more

I took a project which I really didn't like to a convention in Ithaca, so I was very happy to discover that there is a LYS there! YEA! It wasn't the fanciest yarn shop ever display wise, but she had a nice, high quality selection, and it was all well organized. She wasn't pushy at all--which I loved--so if you need help you may red to ask; don't be shy, she is quite pleasant. I found some lovely Malabrigo super wash in two colors--one looks like thunderstorms and one looks like fresh leaves, (and yet another set of #8 Knitter's Pride circulars)--perfect for an Ithaca Summer something or another.... It is half fabric store and half yarn. As I later discovered another fabric store, I kind of wonder why she doesn't focus more on the yarn, and maybe a cozy couch etc instead, but maybe she really loves to sew, and she certainly met my needs! If you are a knitter (or Crocheter! She even had a funny svn that said "Crochet friendly yarn shop") you should stop in. read more
