I went to the one in Winston-Salem. I had a horrible experience. The girl at the front desk has poor customer service skills and don't know how to talk to people. They find any reason to keep your money and it's sad. They claimed someone had smoked in the rental car and NOBODY did. They were looking all the floorboard and anywhere trying to find ashes, and there was not any. The car was dusty when I got it. Then I called and spoke to the manager, Helen, who claimed she went outside and looked but that was a lie because I was sitting in the parking lot watching, while on the phone with her!! This place has horrible customer service. The collections representative Whitney is very rude. She hung the phone up in my face When I was inquiring about a recent payment that I made. I have never seen such horrible customer Service. Yelling at your customer, hanging up the phone. Stay away from this place. They prey on the poor, uneducated and unsophisticated customer. They sold a family member a car which needed a few cosmetic repairs, promising to take care of the issues, only to renege after the sale. They also sold an overpriced extended warranty and a financing option which would effectively double the price of the car. The owner of Hometown Auto does some very nice things, such as breakfasts, lunches and dinners throughout the year. On holidays they even hand out neat gifts to all of their employees, new or old. When sales are up, they'll do "anything" for you. But watch your back! They will continue to smile and be buddy-buddy and serve you with being laid off the next day. It does not matter if you've been there for one year or seven years. They will also find very minimal errors, and hold such over your head as a way of declining you a raise. For example, someone I know worked very hard for them for two years and got into trouble with one write-up for driving fast in their personal car, and this was grounds for dismissal of a raise, mind you this was their first time getting into trouble in two years of employment. Despite the exceptional display of dependability and work ethic from this individual. Meanwhile, an employee who pushed out minimal work sits in the office on his phone and is disrespectful to his coworkers received a promotion and a raise. Another former employee I know was served a letter of termination because she made some errors at the front desk. There was no consultation with her, or effort to help her correct the issues. Their "generous" work for the prison ministry is simply a tax write-off to them. And finally, due to their poor management skills, they wanted their mechanical technicians and detailers to reuse their dirty gloves, a definite violation of OSHA rights on providing PPE. In addition, spills are not properly cleaned, and instructions and rules change based on the day, person, and mood. You will not find honesty, true advancement, or equal treatment in this company.
