Because we do not live in the area, we had to do a significant amount of research, ask detailed questions, and place a great deal of trust in the person we chose. May appeared professional, was knowledgeable about her services, and clearly cares about animals. Based on our early interactions, she seemed capable and experienced. However, communication became a major concern. Email responses were very slow, and important details were not provided until the last minute. The most concerning issue occurred one week before the wedding, when we finally received an invoice that included unexpected charges. While we were initially quoted $75 per hour, the invoice included over $200 in additional "consultation" fees. There was no formal consultation--only a few email exchanges (approximately 3-4 emails) requesting basic information about services and timelines, many of which went unanswered. Due to the lack of timely communication and the surprise fees so close to our wedding date, we ultimately felt uncomfortable moving forward and canceled our plans. May did an amazing job with my two cats! I haven't been in New Orleans long and had to go back to CA for a trip and was very anxious leaving my babies. May watched my cats for 4 days and took excellent care of them. She helped ease my anxiety before I left and made sure my cats were well cared for while I was away. She kept things tidy, handled their complicated feeding needs, interacted with my cats kindly, sent me updates, and even cleaned up when one of my kitties did a scarf and barf. Homeward Bound (May, the owner) took care of my cat, Lola, while I was out of the country over 4th of July, and I could not be happier with their service. I got an email update (I didn't have international texting) with photos of Lola every day saying how she was doing and what they did during her Homeward Bound visit that day. I especially appreciated that the same person who would be visiting Lola actually came to my house to meet me and Lola weeks before I left town. I was able to show her where everything is located, how Lola likes to play, etc. It was worth every penny to have peace of mind while on vacation. I'm new to town and wanted to find someone to watch my cat while I was out of town. I was referred to Homeward Bound and was very pleased with our initial meet and greet before we left- there's a high level of professionalism which set my mind at ease as I was preparing to go out of town, I had one less thing to worry about. While I was gone, I got text & picture updates from each visit with a summary of how my cat was doing. I knew when I was coming home there would be no "surprises", the mail was brought in and she even brought our trash can in from the curb. She also keeps a copy of our key in case we get locked out- more peace of mind for someone traveling! Overall, a wonderful business to deal with when going out of town. If you are in need of a petsitter, you MUST call May at Homeward Bound Services! I just moved to the New Orleans area from Massachusetts and was in need of a petsitter. I had an amazing dog walker/sitter in Massachusetts and had incredibly high expectations for what I was looking for. May was exactly what I was hoping to find, and then some. I am very particular about who watches my "babies" and have a gut instinct (some may call it neurosis) about who I trust with them. May is one of the few people who I implicitly trust with my pets and don't feel as if I have to check in to ensure they are being taken care of. She is reliable, timely, affordable, and very flexible. She also sends tons of pictures and updates of your animals in your absence. Sometimes I think my pets have more fun with her than they do with me! My dog is also quite quirky- he is petrified of thunderstorms and has anxiety (which he is medicated for daily), and May puts up with his unique personality. One of my biggest fears when moving to Louisiana was not finding someone great to take care of my pets while at work or away. I genuinely do not know what I would do if I did not find May (she was referred to me), or if I were to lose her.
