The product and intonation are good the roofing crew was excellent. However customer service is a problem. If you have a issue with damage under warranty. I was told 2 times I was scheduled for repairs and took the day off work and no one showed up. When I called in the afternoon a gentleman said I was not on the schedule for the day. So 2 days pay lost because HONEST ABE lied to me. Nobody will ever return calls if anything is changed or they decide to even call back in will update. Customer service is seriously lacking. NOT HONEST! Beware, Honest Abe came to my 80 year old mother's house for a roofing bid. They knew they were the second company out and we needed the bid to turn in to the insurance. My brother was present and needed to leave halfway through. He thanked Hunter for coming out and leaving the bid and that we'd get with the insurance and get back to them. After my brother left, Hunter managed to get a signed contract for 41,000 from my mother. He told her they would be in touch with her insurance company to work out the final amount and the $41,000 was a credit limit check and it wouldn't be that high with the total to be determined. Wrong. It was a contract. It is a small modular home and the previous roofers bid was $12,300. Honest Abe took advantage of a confused elderly lady. Scam. Folks unless you have an obscenely large 6 plus room house, a new metal roof is not going to cost 20k or more. It's not even with all the fancy salesman pitches they throw at you. It's just not. A sales man, not a contractor becomes to your house and runs your credit telling you a new roof is going to cost you what the highest they are told your credit score will qualify you for. We are in the process of purchasing a home and the inspector informed us we needed to have the roof professionally inspected. We called around and everyone was the same price as far as just looking at the roof ($200). We decided to chose Honest Abe to actually come out and inspect it. We informed them we are trying to purchase this home quickly so we don't have to pay extra in rent. They promised within 24 hours we would have a report sent to our Realtor and e-mailed to us. Three days passed and still no one has heard or received anything from them. We had to call them three times on the fourth day to get an answer. Finally later in the afternoon (the third call) they had the estimate finished and offered to send the inspection to our Realtor in the mail (taking a few more days to get to them.) We had to drive to Honest Abe and pick it up since they wouldn't e-mail it to us. The price to replace our roof was $10,000 through Honest Abe. Our bank had three other inspectors come out and estimate the roof. Not one estimate was over $7,000. I'm not saying they are a rip off, I just wasn't pleased with their business. The only reason I gave them 1 star is because there are no, no star ratings.First they came unprepared for the job after the company was told how high the roof was a 2 story Victorian. 2 they were 1 man down this is already bad enough HERE IN GREENE COUNTY INDIANA when the first guy showed up which was the one that was up on the roof he looked at my roof in a strange way like he didn't feel like doing it. The entire time he was there he was rude to me in a condescending way and constantly telling me he was doing me a favor. They took off for a long time when there was a storm coming in and didn't even tell me where they were going or when they would be back so this thing didn't even get started till way later and it started to get a little windy. so they didn't get really started for hours. They advertised putting up a tarp for free for tornado victims which we are and seriously please don't even have them put up a free tarp for you. He knocked another shingle off as well and was rough after drilling in a block of some sort to my peak that they were going to attach their harnesses to which they never used and then when he took it out at end of this fiasco where he never put the tarp up he undrilled the block and was hitting it with a hammer in frustration to get the block out of my roof which I gasped at how rough he was doing it after he put more holes in the roof. oh and the second guy on the ground was too timid to get up on roof at any point what so ever as he asked him to numerous times. The lead guy was constantly changing what they were going to do because he didn't want to do what they promised to do, and it was kaos. He blocked me in my driveway had to ask him to move the truck they had stuff all over completely disorganized from one moment to the next. Completely unprofessional and rude and disrespectful to the point where i had to walk away from him and bite my lip, this of course was completely opposite from the man who came out to do my estimate. He had me wanting to pay them to do the repairs and eventually hire them for an entire roof. They ask on the phone how can I make you smile today and did not handle the situation at all.They did not honor their promises at all and shotty workmen and work. When I have the next roofers come in I will have to have them secure the area where he was rough and was trying to get the block out. Good thing I saw that so I can get that repaired at the same time any tiny bit of silicone they may have gotten in there will not be a long time fix for that new damage.Aweful treatment of customer. Roofer thinks he's Gods gift and you should have no say in what they do to your home.They blame the customer for their failings as well. I took pictures while this was all going on. Please go to someone else its not worth the upset to deal with these amateur's and the bad business ethics I experienced and there was more but this is already too long but you get the picture. Overall the job was done very good. The roof looks amazing. The original estimate was not done correctly. I asked the guy to estimate to re-deck the whole house because I was getting financing and wanted to make sure I received enough money. The guy doing the estimate said I only needed about 20 pieces of decking so that's what I got a loan for. As it turned out I did need all new decking and that increased the estimate by $2500 after I received the loan. The bank had to go back and completely redo the loan. This created a lot of confusion with other issues also and all i got was a "we're sorry" from Honest Abe. I'm sure it was not done intentionally and am VERY happy with the roof and workmanship. read more

I do not recommend Honest Abe to anyone. Run from their salesmen because it goes downhill from there. The actual employees that do the labor side of it aren't the issue. It's the office staff. All in it for the money and even though they guarantee their work, they actually don't. They will give you the runaround every time you call. They won't listen and won't communicate to the laborers what they're supposed to be fixing if they actually send 1 person out. They will place blame on the customer. I will type up all the issues and post them. 3 years ago we signed the paper work for a new roof. We still are having issues almost 3 years later. I've been nice, I've been beyond patient and I've warned that my bitch button will be pushed. I was not kidding about a lawyer when I called 3 months ago and it will happen. Parts flying off the house because they were rigged, leaking gutters on seamless gutters, miscommunication multiple times, new liner on the carport starting pulling away from the house within a month of it being on, they removed downspouts and had all the water running to the flat roof of the porch up front and the flat roof on the back of the house, they didn't connect new downspouts correctly to where they clog easily and spray out at the connection at the top causing algae to grow leading to mortar issues and wood damage, the damaged wood under the carport was caused from the brilliant idea of removing one of the drains, not once since the roof has been on have they come to clean out the gutters and so on. I'm so tired of this. We spent around $50,000 on a sh*tshow. It's an awful feeling being let down by this company after we trusted them to fix our roof and not mess with the historic integrity of our historic home. The only issue that's been resolved is I demanded they put the downspouts back on the house and to cut one back that they over extended from the house to the driveway (fix for them letting it drain onto the column itself and not the ground) so we're no longer tripping over it. My wife and I bought our current house in 2007. The inspector had said and it was clearly visible that our roof would need to be replaced down the road. I had been looking at metal roofs for some time. There was a house just a block from us that had a beautiful metal roof that I was especially attracted to. I spotted the owner of the house out in his yard one day and asked him who had done the work. He said Honest Abe Roofing had. I talked to him at length and he seemed quite pleased with the results. So I had in mind then I would probably call Honest Abe Roofing first. I did a few patch works on our roof the next few years but problems were mounting faster than I could keep up. 2011 was one of the wettest springs in record and the problems the roof had were magnified by the shear amount of rain we had. When during dinner one night water began to drip off our light fixture I told my wife, "We will either need to call a roofing company or the fire department when the rain sets an electrical fire." I called Honest Abe Roofing the next day. As the rain showed no signs of letting up we were really under the gun to get something done and quickly. Therefore Honest Abe was the only one we called. Much like your furnace going out in freezing temperatures you really don't have the luxury of time to gather bids and talk to customers of competing companies. We had to move on this. Mike Frey from Honest Abe came over on a week night and showed us work they had in their galleries. He was quite personable and easy to talk to. I had some very specific things I wanted in a metal roof and he and his team were accommodating throughout the process. I wanted the entire roof stripped down to the base sheathing. I wanted 19/32nd. plywood on the flat and screwed into the existing trusses. Any wood that was deemed dry rotted needed to be replaced. Each of these things were done. As it turned out the roof was so warped in areas that they had to put down a 2X4 grid work before attaching the metal. They kept to the original bid price even though this was certainly an upgrade from the original plan. They also tore down all the old guttering and replaced with new guttering and down spouts. Several soffit panels and fascia needed replaced as well which they did. Once we got our financing in order which took about a week it seemed like it took them no time to get started. I had told Mike that I thought the existing roof had about 3 or 4 layers of shingles on it. As it turned out I counted 6 or 7 different types of shingles in there scrap piles and the roof even had cedar shakes underneath the shingles. The team that showed up to clear the roof did all the work in about a day and half if memory serves me. It was an incredible amount of debris that they took off the roof. They kept close tabs on the weather and had about a 4 day window of opportunity to get the new roof put on. As it turned out they put the new roof on in about 3 days and the 4th day just did a few odds and ends. Not even a full day. The last two days it looked as if it was going to start pouring down any minute. But alas it never did. I think from the time we called Honest Abe to the time we had a new roof was less than a month. My wife and I have been very pleased with our new roof. I always listen for rain entering the attic but have never heard any. Nor have had any signs of this on closer inspection. Sometimes Gemma my wife will come inside and tell me it's raining so hard out. Really? I can't even hear the rain in most cases on the roof. Unless we get a torrential down pour you really have to listen for the rain hitting the roof. I suppose it's quiet because everything is so well pinned down. It's been 4yrs now and we are still pleased with our roof. I wanted to give Honest Abe Roofing 5 stars for a job well done and fast. But my wife thought they were on the high side so she wanted to give them 3.5 stars. I thought they were high too but since we didn't get any other bids then we don't have absolute proof of that. I have talked to quite a few home owners that have had similar roofs built for much less. But we are still quite pleased with our roof. Hopefully on our next big project we won't be behind the eight ball and will get multiple bids and talk to customers of competing companies. I called the local office and wanted the contractor to look at my rental home in Clinton, IN. , for a new roof. I got 3 estimated prices, which one included taking out the chimney, they were more than the price I paid for the home I live in to replace the roof. I called the rep., back and she eventually told me to contact her co worker, Mike. Mike called me and suggested I have my insurance adjuster to meet him at the property and he could point out some damages that he had overlooked. They did so, and I was given more money for the damage that they agreed upon. I called Mike to ask when I could come in and discuss the final money amount and was given a time, when I went to the appointment, Mike had moved back to Texas and the paper work was lacking. The rep., I spoke with made no sense, so I asked to speak with his supervisor. The supervisor basically told me Mike did me a favor in getting me more money and their company couldn't do the job for that price and they basically don't work for insurance payments and I suggested that Mike said I could make payments on the remainder and the supervisor said they don't want to do that as they never receive their payments. All my husband wanted was someone to come over and give am estimate on our roof. 2 hours later, the guy finally left. We didn't have time for a sales pitch, but that is what we got. He was very very pushy. Kept asking why my husband wouldn't sign the contract he had to offer. The guy was wanting to charge us $24,000 for a new roof. The rep kept asking if there were any other companies that we might go with instead of Honest Abe. He kept putting down any other roofing company. My husband stood his ground and told the rep he would think about it and to give him a couple of days. A couple of days later the rep called and said he had made a mistake and the price was now $19,0000 for a new roof. That still is way too high for a roof. My husband told the rep that we would be going with a another roofing company. The rep wanted know to which one. My husband told him. And the rep immediately put that other roofing company down. My husband apologized for wasting the rep's time and the rep replied sarcastically, "Yeah, right," and hung up on him. Do not go with this company. We had severe roof damage from a storm. Our house is an old Victorian, very tall and steep. We had several companies refuse to do our roof. Honest Abe not only agreed to do the roof, but did so quickly and efficiently. Our roof looks nice! They had the whole roof torn off and replaced in three days (even working through some snow). Tom was the one who came to our house initially and Wade was our project manager. We did have some expensive landscaping lights damaged. They promised to replace them so hopefully they follow through with that as well. (Thus the four star vs. a five star rating) read more

He took a look and came up with three different options for me, one of which I agreed to. He gave me a written estimate and said that they could get it done the following week. I never heard back. I wanted to give them a little time. Finally, I called their office. They had no record of any written estimate and would have to get back to me. The secretary called me back and said she would get with the owner. A few more weeks passed. I contacted the owner myself, and he said he remembered me but did not have the paperwork. I sent him a copy of my written estimate. Never heard back from anyone at Honest Abe. I would have been fine with them not taking the job. If they did not want to do it, they should just say so. Honest abe sent a representative who looked at it and admitted that the work wasn't done correctly and promised to get back with me. since then I've heard nothing from them despite my repeated calls to them.
