We were solely seeking bids for cost comparison from these four different installation companies each representing a different manufacturer. We were not asking for service or maintenance on the existing system. It was already non-operational. We were only gathering bids for equipment and pricing. We did not choose Bays. Subsequently, Bays sent an $80.00 invoice for service which we did not order nor authorize and which, to our knowledge, they did not perform. We argued with them over the invoice and did not pay it. Several days ago we received notice from a debt collector regarding this $80.00 bill from Bays. We have an unblemished credit record with FICO scores well over 800, so we decided to pay the bill rather than risk any type of negative entry on our credit history, even if it was false. In short, our experience with Bays Heating and Cooling has been 100% negative! Not only was their bid for the installation of the new HVAC unit the worst of the four companies but we wound up, in effect, being forced to pay a "ransom" for a bid that the other three companies provided without any charge. This post is the first I have ever done and it is not about the $80.00 - it is, in fact, about the ethics of a company choosing to conduct its business in this manner. However, they weren't able to unclog the sink after an hour of effort and recommended I tear out the wall and start replacing pipes. I called the other McCalister plumbers out of West T and they were able to unclog it within 15 minutes. I don't know enough about plumbing to know what should be "hard" or not, but I was surprised they couldn't fix it and even more surprised after the other company fixed it so quickly.

He has great equipment and left no mess after digging up around her well to remove the old pressure tank and reconnect plumbing and electrical lines. We felt their pricing was reasonable considering all the work they did and the equipment required to remedy the situation.

And I'm still paying for it…read more 100+ hours of my life wasted dealing with legal threats, which began on Day #2 after getting his invoice! He showed up to replace our well pump. I asked him for general pricing information - he was offended. After repeating the request, got him to give me pricing at $200/hour for their time, and $4-5 for pipe, and $1100 for the lower-end pump (for 220' deep well). OK. Then he gave me a bottom quote total price of $3K, and no hiccups on the job, and a total time of 2.5 hrs at our home, and only a 10 mile drive to our house - I was figuring the price would be approximately $3,000 (near the bottom of the quote). Instead, it comes in at $4,000, and he charges me $1465 for the pump instead of $1100 ($365 above the on-site original quote), and the pipe at $4-5 should mean "close to $4.50" - he charges me $5.13 -- above the max limit. Then adds on $83 of Misc Materials - but won't tell me a SINGLE item included in that bundle of mystery. Very offended by his misquoting of prices, I send him an email specifying some of the quote inconsistencies, and ask him to accept 5.5% discount on the price, where the inconsistencies SHOULD have been more like 25% discount. I was compromising MOST of the way. He calls me - yelling at me that I'm ridiculous and should have NEVER asked for pricing!... and that NO ONE ELSE EVER ASKS FOR PRICING AHEAD, except for me! And that I must pay 100% of the invoice, no exception. Now I'm regretting that I've got to deal with this dishonest malicious man for warranty! I want him to pull it out, as I've arranged for a nice company to come in and do the job for less - with more experience and ethics. He gladly priced it ahead at under $3500. 3 days after the pump was installed - Schrader's owner Owen, refers me to his ATTORNEY -- Day 3. 5 days before my 7-day invoice is even due. Before anything is due, or late -- he stops all communications with me, addresses NONE of my concerns -- NOT ONE -- stops customer service (no responses, stonewalled) -- and WILL NOT even tell me the name of this attorney he referred me to. My hands are tied. No one to talk to or deal with. 3 weeks later, I get a Property Lien notice, now demanding $1200+ in attorney fees on top! In short: 1. He misquotes pricing, then gouges me above the quotes on the invoice. 2. I ask for partial discount of 5.5% 3. Yes yells at me with major insults! 4. I ask him to remove his equipment or reduce his price even more (giving up my warranty)... 5. Next day - 2 days after Invoice, 5 days before it's due - he refers me to his Attorney. 6. This starts the process of accruing Attorney Fees! 7. He won't tell me the Attorney's Name 8. Won't address a SINGLE concern. 9. Won't budge even one cent on his price. === Now I've been told they are suing me, to foreclose on our house! Over a 5.5% dispute that he wouldn't even discuss details for. Worst consumer experience ever. Year ruined. Choosing Shrader was my worst choice of the decade. Our neighbor had him do his well too - and he won't even let Owen back on the property -- he can't stand the man.
