We went to the new location of honest Abe's donuts, and I have to say we were not impressed. They had the donuts where you couldn't actually see them. The menu was much smaller, and the place is really dark and dank. my husband was going to get some chicken salad that was in the little refrigerator when you walked in the door and it had been expired for like three days. This restaurant has everything. It sells donuts but it is also is an ice cream shop. It is also a deli that sells bar b q sandwiches and hot tamales. So, it is not just a donut shop. I think it is more of a deli. It also has salads, po-boys, pork ribs, BBq sandwiches, hot tamales, chicken salads and a specialty pimento cheese. Some of the sides available are: baked beans, Cole slaw, potato salad, potato chips. Hours: they are open Monday thru Saturday from 6am to 8pm. On Sundays from 6am to 5pm. They also have WiFi which is good for their customers. What your charges at check out! She tried to over charge me at least 3 times. A dozen donuts clearly states on the wall they are $6.59. However, $12 popped up on register. I said something and then $10 came up. I said hey, it says $6.59 and with tax it should be around $7 to $8. She finally charged me the correct amount and I left. read more

I was there at 10:30 and they still had a good selection of donuts. They have large and small if specialty donuts. My husbands large apple fritter must have weighed a pound, it was moist and good. My small cinnamon roll was moist and delicious. They had some delicious looking donuts, cookies, filled donuts and twists. They have sausage roll type things. They have coffee machines, but we were too late for coffee. They have individual bottle and containers of juice and milk. There were 6 flavors of ice cream. I saw on the menu they have salads and sandwiches. I saw reviews that say they have tamales, I will have to make a tamale trip in the near future. They had a new flat screen cash register. The two people at the register totally ignored us and were in the way of the lady who was trying to helped us. Snubbing customers is not a great idea. read more

Well that was fast and pleasant! As soon as I walked in I was greeted and shown how to order. My order was made very quickly, and right before my eyes, despite the fact that their drive-through was pretty full. Both women working behind the counter were super nice, and we laughed together as I was wrung up. The whole process took less than a few minutes, which was nice because I left a place just before this after waiting almost twenty minutes for no one to help me. My donut was awesome and the chicken salad po boy is great! Fantastic deal with chips and a drink coming to $8! read more

Stumbled upon this place on our way to visit Robert Johnson's gravesite. What a find! It's still COVID-times in MS, so they were serving through the drive through and a window in the door. First time visit after moving to the area. More of a deli or stop and pop (things into your mouth) than a donut shop. Tamales were priced well and although I found them lacking the heat in spices my fiance enjoyed them. Also tried the bavarian creme filled donuts and was blown away. I don't have much of a sweet tooth but I definitely will stop by again to try their original glazed and apple fritters which looked gargantuan and tasty. Definitely recommend if you're in town. Go here for the tamales! We were in town and looking for hot tamales. A waitress at a local restaurant recommended Honest Abe's Donuts for hot tamales.....I gave her a sideways look-she swore by it...and we were not disappointed. Got a half a dozen warmed up in the microwave. We devoured them in minutes. Great flavor and not too spicy. Donuts are probably good and best in the morning. Might be back for those! read more

This place is amazing. My husband and I have a child that goes to MVSU. On our visit we found this jewel. At first we were laughing because a donut shop selling tamales?? They are amazing!!!! The spices from the juice and the the flavor inside OMG!! Now that's just the tamale's. The doughnuts are overwhelming!!!! The dough is moist with flavor all through it!!! Great little spot. We stopped in for donuts and coffee. The staff were friendly and they brewed us a fresh pot of coffee. It was a Sunday morning so they mentioned the churches clean them out pretty quickly - but there will still plenty of options. I had a caramel glazed donut for the first time and it was tasty, not too overly sweet. read more

We love hot tamales and those at Honest Abe's are the best! We buy them frozen with juice and take them back home--formerly to Fairhope, AL and now to Madison, MS--to cook and eat later. Their donuts are also excellent. We usually buy and eat some donuts and donut holes while we are picking up our frozen tamales. Note: You need to call and order your frozen hot tamales at least a day in advance. read more
