I stayed in the car, dialed the number, made some confirmations, and waited for the staff to bring it out. I waited about 10 minutes. The employee who helped me load the trunk was friendly and helpful. Our car was PACKED as we were traveling to a cottage with all of our stuff for 5 days. He was nice enough to tie the bags for me so the items didn't go everywhere. We went back to the bakery to pick up a cake for our friends birthday. There was no one at the counter until an employee came out of the freezer. We asked him to write 'happy birthday Allie' on a cake we chose and he said 'I'll try'. Which should have been a red flag right off the bat. The photo attached to this review will speak for itself with how this went..... With wanting to just get out of the store and not make a big deal, we packed up the cake and took it home. It's a hilarious photo and I laugh every time I look at it LOL. It makes for a great story but I feel other people may have been very upset if they took this home for someones birthday.

Bala Freshmart has the look and feel of a big chain grocery store, but has the distinction of…read moreactually being one-of-a-kind. It's an independent supermarket, the only one of its kind in Bala. When you need ketchup, Clamato, or paper towels, BF is it. Its only competition comes from Don's Bakery, The Cottage Butcher, and the produce stands around town. While BF is much smaller than chain supermarkets, its stock is quite comparable. They don't carry *as much* here, but the variety is there, and much of the produce comes from local farms or greater Ontario which means greater freshness and flavor. Also, they carry the generic Canadian brand "no name (sans nom)", in its distinct black-and-yellow packaging. And while this isn't unique to the Bala Freshmart, seeing the no name brand always tickles me. Prices can be high, and there's now a $0.05 plastic bag fee if you don't bring your own. But BF is the only grocery going in Bala, and rather than resting on those laurels, they've opted to step-up their game and provide excellent quality and service. Good on you, BF.

I asked my friend (we both work at a camp we do lice checks on staff and campers every week) to look at my hair and all she found was dandruff. She yelled at my friend telling her she couldn't do that in her salon. And she yelled at me and said that if I knew I had lice, I shouldn't have come to her salon. The lady cutting my hair rushed through it, it was all uneven and they didn't even bother to blow dry it. I have never been treated so horribly during a hair cut. Would not recommend this salon...
