Honeysuckle Tea House is a very unique place in North Carolina. Like the name implies, you'll find tons of fresh, loose-leaf teas that you can request hot or iced. I loved the little playground outside the tea house, as well as the tea leaf garden right next to it. (According to my friend, Honeysuckle grows their own tea leaves. Amazing, right?!) However, on hot days especially, it sucks that all the seating is outdoors. My friend normally gets the oolong tea, but unfortunately, it seems they've taken it off their menu. So she got some fruity black tea instead. Meanwhile, I got an iced Nourishmint, an herbal blend with a strong mintiness (hence the name). We both liked our teas a lot. There was definitely a big difference between the tea we had at Honeysuckle than traditional, big-name bagged teas like Lipton. If you're a tea fanatic, or if you're just looking for a cute place to relax with a friend, Honeysuckle Tea House is worth your time. read more

My daughter (and best friend) and I love to find a quiet place and read. We also love a good adventure. We were told you could find both at the Honeysuckle Tea House (9-9-17). When we arrived, we were surprised to find an open-air building. Surrounding this building were raised beds containing a myriad of edible flowers and herbs (they use these in & on the recipes they serve). There was a section with several hammocks (a few people were sound to sleep in their shaded hammock). The entire area was perfect for strolling around or just sitting quietly with your computer or book or friend! We each ordered a Tulsi Chai Tea (chai spices with sweet holy basil - the basil came directly from one of the raised beds). The flavor was amazing! We then ordered a Coco Love Boat to split (banana, strawberries, cacao powder, coconut mild, sun butter, topped with granola and rose petals - many items came directly from the raised beds - I watched him pick the flower petals myself). The granola was beyond amazing and the smoothie part was packed with flavor. There was so much flavor that my taste buds almost hurt when I took my first few bites. Cons: Expensive as hell. $8 for a toasted sandwich is ridiculous. It's literally tea and coffee and sandwich meat. It's a pretty tourist trap but there not that many choices, they were out of smoothie supplies, and the lady was pretty snippy about asking questions like we were stupid. This place is so cute! They play live music on the weekends and host many events. I highly suggest following them on instagram to keep up with the various events they host (blueberry picking, yoga, etc.). The mead and tea options are delicious. The smoothies are also incredible. The food truck is honestly meh and overpriced though. The brussel sprouts I got from it had too much vinegar and were mostly burnt. The teas are great iced or hot. It's a pretty sweet spot in a quiet rural setting. You come upon the property and may be a bit curious as to what you're getting into. Low and behold, this beautiful asian style open air hut appears among some lovely flower gardens once you pull in. There's plenty of seating "inside" on the top level that's covered and has outlets for computer work, as well as picnic tables galore outside under strings of lights and more seating in a few covered structures. A good truck is sometimes on premises, there's some playground items, and a stage for what I'd assume would be live music. They have their own orchard/small farm, which one can peruse, which is pretty neat . I tasted a few of their meads (fun! Crisp! Delicious! Not too sweet!) And had a pot of tea. They also have the traditional coffee offerings, smoothies, some light bites like granolas and breads, and a few other things. My date and I followed the cashier's recommendation to get peppermint tea as london-fog-style with oat milk. I'm really glad we did because it was freaking amazing and delicious! The drink was warm, thick, and smooth and not very sweet, which I liked (although my date did add a packet of sugar to her drink). Beautiful land & atmosphere. I loved the hammock area- could've stayed awhile to read and nap. Some room for improvements include more knowledge of hiking trails by staff. That was what drew us to check it out. The hot coffee was no bueno, but I appreciated getting a cold brew instead at no charge. The cold brew was good black. Also had hoped for more of a food selection- they have pastries and smoothie bowls if you're hungry. Smoothie bowls were $10 so I opted for a macaroon, which was delicious. Would I go here again, maybe if it was closer. I live in Durham so it's a little far. If they opened up a similar place in Durham I think I would frequent. Honeysuckle is such a unique space, great for studying, meeting friends, and just enjoying the open air. On site, there's a tea house and meadery, as well as open farms and gardens, a tent of hammocks, and a wooden playground (for children or my friends the adult-children). Most of the seating is open-air under a wooden roof, so you can (and must) enjoy the outdoors on your visit. Food offerings include smoothie bowls (though more on that later), an array of pastries, tea, coffee, and mead. Free Wifi is available, so it's a reasonable study space, as long as you don't mind the semi-outdoors experience. Unfortunately, I had to dock two stars because when I arrived at noon, there was only one option left for the smoothie bowl, and although there appeared to only be one person in line ahead of me, it took almost 20 minutes to receive my order (a smoothie bowl and matcha latte). Perhaps Honeysuckle had a lot more morning traffic that day than usual, but given the drive out there, my friends and I were disappointed in the limited options. For those looking for a peaceful experience away from home and are planning mostly to enjoy the tea/coffee, Honeysuckle is certainly delivers. read more

No joke, I went to both the cafe and bar in Carrbobo and the teahouse in Chapel Hill all in one weekend - December 19th and 20th to be exact - and both places were perfectly wonderful but the teahouse edged the cafe and bar out. The location is a few miles outside of Chapel Hill downtown, and despite getting a lot of light pollution from that... it feels like your just in the middle of nowhere when you stay in the yome on the property. The yome itself is definitely not really built for more than two people (or a third, smaller human or pet) but it was so nice to disconnect from screen entertainment for a night. The staff of the teahouse was welcoming and helpful with recommendations when we came back in to refill the mead jug we got before they close. We tried the Apple Pie mead (it was SO good, just the right amount of sweetness) and When Lemon met Ginger - outside of that I tried the Berry Berry (I think I have that name wrong) and it was BEAUTIFUL. We also tried Balancing the Moon in a large pot (for the third time) and the next morning I tried Sunrise. I had been expecting a black tea for that, but instead was treated to something reminiscent of a zinger from Celestial Seasonings - good childhood memories hit me when i drank it. At least one friend and I plan on coming back - and I would definitely like to try staying in the yome again when it's warmer! read more

I almost hesitate to review this hidden gem, but I think the word is already out! Whoever had this idea is a genius! We just spent the afternoon at this little slice of heaven out in the country. We sat up in the open air covered porch and watched the children below frolicking through the play areas, some playing catch with what seems to be the house dog, while listening to some great music from a live band, drank delicious ice tea and shared a tasty wood fired pizza from a local food truck on site. What else could you ask for on a lovely Sunday afternoon? Nothing more, because there was even a wonderful breeze the entire time. The staff is super nice and friendly and managed to keep up with the continual line of people partaking in the wide variety of food and beverages. Time just slips away here and we didn't want to leave. If I lived closer I'd be a regular, but we will definitely be back, especially as the weather cools down so we can try out a nice pot of hot tea!! read more

I have no idea how to write a review for this. My bestie decided to plan an adventure for us and this was the first stop. We both love tea and tea houses. So when she heard about this, we both had an image of what it'll be like. Well, it was nothing like we though. It's located in a pretty rural area which made us uncomfortable, but thankfully we were there around noon. We went inside the building and there was nobody in there except a couple patrons sitting by the window. We waited at the bar for quite a while and nothing. So we learned there was a downstairs area. Below is a much smaller... spot? We did not see a menu of any sort, but people were making purchases. The tea list is posted on the wall by the register in very small print. We asked about food. The cashier said all we have is what you see. We saw Doritos and some type of brunch snacks. No clue exactly what it was. We wasn't told if we just picked it off the table or if it was made to order, nothing. She also told us there was a food truck. Neither one was open and she was clueless as well about that. We both ordered the same tea (I cannot recall the name), and it was great. It tasted as if it was locally crafted and nothing imported. We sat and hung out a bit. It was like a "now what" moment. They have an area for the kids to play. Plenty of seating from lawn chairs to picnic tables. Even cute shelters with lights hanging from them. I bet it will give a better aesthetic in the evening than what we're currently experiencing. Overall it was alright. We made the best of it by just hanging out and laughing. Us cutting up with our conversation had others around us laughing too. We were not asked to take our volume down a notch or nothing. So I appreciated that we were able to have our girl chat without complaints from the patrons or employees. I'm bump it up a star just for that. The location would probably be what keeps me from coming back. One, it's an hour and a half away. Two, it's in the middle of nowhere. Other than that the tea was amazing. read more

Nice atmosphere to study and relax as well as to socialize They usually have local bakery goods on display. Today, we grabbed Pumpkin spiced croffin (croissant muffin fusion) and smoothies: Mystic mango and the Carolina Blue Sky. The Mystic Mango is sour with minimal sweetness. The Carolina blue sky is great!! They use the blueberries they grow and adds it to their smoothies. Bottom line: such a great vibe at the tea house. Students can study. Kids can play. Honeysuckle Tea House! This spot is awesome. Driving out here, following your GPS, I assure you will start to wonder, "where the heck am I going?!" It's a little bit out of the way, but for good reason. They have a large plot of land with a garden, lots of grass, a playground, a hammock area, and plenty of seating for visitors. The tea house is cute inside,l and the staff was very friendly. At night, this spot is beautiful! Our dogs loved being here and the group had lots of fun playing games and exploring the grounds. Each of us got either smoothies or tea. The prices on the smoothies were a bit high at $9 for perhaps 12 oz. but it was delicious. Will be back! read more

The ambiance at honeysuckle is unmatched. They've added a lot of really nice seating options since I last visited a few years ago. Lots of more shaded options that I really appreciated on a hot sunny day. That being said, I had the blood orange iced tea and it was meh. For a tea house I was very disappointed. It was a beautiful color but tasted like nothing, or if I'm being generous - lightly flavored water. Plus it was 5$ for one cup. If I was rating only the tea it would be 1 Star. But the place itself is so cute, relaxing, and wonderful. I had a locopop that was also very delicious and wish I just got that and skipped the tea. My boyfriend got a pastry that was much prettier than tasty, like the tea. I would absolutely go back, but I would skip the big batch iced tea for sure. read more

I've been wanting to try this unique teahouse for quite some time, so i finally made the 35+ min drive from Apex to do so! I loved the setup of the cafe, totally open and felt like a tree house in the middle of a farm! Their tea list needless to say was long and really inviting. I got matcha because i LOVE matcha so i figured i would start there :) The matcha latte was delicious, super creamy and not too sweet. They have a small food menu which was nice to get some quick bites. I felt like the food and drinks were a bittt overpriced, but if its helping to pay for the general farm and space upkeep i'm ok with it. We sat outside on a bench so it was great for COVID distancing purposes with friends. I loved that they had different and creative seating options and even a small little kids playground! Not worth the drive. Tea is okay. Nothing special. Smoothie bowls are $10 for a small bowl of liquid with some granola and a strawberry on top. Flavor was blah-and the granola tasted like peanuts, which wasn't great with the flavor I ordered. Took at least 20 minutes for the bowl to come out-while I watched other people who ordered after me receive food and drink. The girl who made it said the first one was too liquid-and that's why it took so long. They also completely forgot my drink. Service is awful. The girl serving us was confused about most of the menu offerings, and kept touching her hair and face while getting food and drinks for customers. Neither girl making food had their hair pulled back-big yikes! They had a cute play area for the kids, but otherwise the view and surroundings weren't nearly as nice as advertised. I have had a terrible experience at this business. This is no fault of the wonderful baristas or the mead maker. This business falsely advertises that their tea is made at their farm, which is not true. I have also heard stories that the management treats their employees unethically. This means long shifts with no breaks, disregard for their marginalized identities (race/sexuality) , and verbal harassments. I don't recommend anyone supporting this business. read more

I'd give 0 stars if I could. I was extremely disappointed by my visit to Honeysuckle. I ordered the Carolina Blue Sky smoothie bowl. I waited 20 minutes for this bowl, so I expected it to at least be somewhat decent. When I received my bowl, it was completely overflowing and dripping off the sides. My friend also ordered a bowl, and the staff told him to "eat fast" because it was dripping and melting EVERYWHERE. I brought the dripping bowl back to my table and noticed it was literally a bowl of huge ICE chunks with watered down fruit juice (see pics attached). My friend's bowl also had ice chunks and the taste was awful. We each paid $11 for our bowls, and I gave an additional 20% tip. When I approached the staff working at the front bar, they told me they were "sorry." They offered to remake it but I told them I would rather have a refund, to which they told me I would have to "wait a bit". I threw out my bowl and stood off to the side for a few minutes waiting for them to issue my refund. The staff then went back to talking to each other, laughing, and looking at something on their phones. After waiting to the side for my refund for several minutes, I asked the staff working at the bar if I should get in the back of the line, which stretched out to the parking lot. They told me yes, and "sorry". (See pics attached of the huge line). I waited in the back of the line for about 10 minutes and it never moved. I decided to leave because it was a huge waste of time. I don't understand why I would have to wait even longer to get a refund when it takes 2 seconds. What a fun place to relax, study or spend some time outside! There aren't too many food options (smoothies/bowls, pastries), but there are plenty of things to drink! I loved the hibiscus mint tea, and next time I go I'm going to try the coffee. My favorite pastry was the coconut macaron! I really loved this little hippy paradise. This is such a great place to come and bask in the sun. My gf loves tea, and I am getting into it slowly. The bar-tea-sta was really knowledgeable and helped us choose a great tea. The blueberry tea was really great, reasonably priced, and clearly locally sourced (they grow their own, if I am not mistaken). They have a lot of places for kids to run and play, fire pits, hammocks, and quite a few isolated tables and relaxation nooks. We will definitely be back. read more

The main attraction of the HTH is the beautiful space and seclusion. The tea house overlooks fields where the tea is grown. There is outdoor seating, hammocks, and a playground. The tea house itself is totally open, so they have some blankets to stay warm when it's cooler out. I went on a rainy Friday afternoon, and it was still pretty crowded. The line wasn't that long but moved slowly because the menu items were illegibly written on the display boards, and there only appeared to be two hard copies of the menu. The workers were actually a little short with us, but it seems like that was a fluke because the other reviews say the servers were friendly. By the time we arrived (~3pm) the pastries were gone and there were no food trucks, so I would come earlier if you wanted food! Awesome hipster place with tons of options for Tea. Really unique place with a kids play structure and the store itself put together using old shipping containers. They also have hammocks tucked away for you to take a quick nap and lounge in. If you are feeling sleepy or tired, you can take a walk into the garden where they grow the tea you drink. That is a really cool in itself to see the actual process they grow the tea. In addition to all of this, they have a bonfire pit that is rentable for big groups. One of the most beautiful and peaceful places I've been to in recent history. It's completely open-air (I'm actually really curious to see how they manage in the winter....) and most definitely off the beaten path, literally. I'm in love with every aspect of this place, from the gravelly entrance adorned unapologetically with the giant wooden sign overhead, to the ridiculously awesome garden(s) and super hippie vibe. If I had ever decided to open up a teahouse it would look exactly like this and I think i would never leave. If you're a misanthrope, I think even you could be happy here! The only sad thing about this place is that obviously the wifi isn't the greatest (although likely if you came here you're not itching to stay connected) and the food selection is kind of minimal/not ideal. This star has to do a/ operations. It TANKS the entire experience as you have to wait one hour for a cup of coffee and a frozen bagel to defrost?!?! A tea house of out mainstay teas?!?! No excuse lines out the door. No excuse you have a major university that would do a case study and advise you for FREE!! It is the simplest supply demand/ work flow/ distribution. It's really disheartening as they would make a lot more money to hire more staff, make more money, etc.. seriously somebody needs to have a heart to heart as I know they will do well given the right direction! Honeysuckle is an excellent location to hang out with friends, or get some studying done. The entire place is open-air so it is a wonderful way to enjoy the weather while still being in the shade of the building. The location and vibe of the place is very peaceful and relaxing. However, I think they are still working on their landscaping as there are still lots of large patches of dirt in the back. The food selections were definitely not great. By the time we got there in the early afternoon, some of the muffin choices were already sold out and there were only 1-2 other choices. Their tea selection is decent however and they have the cutest cups! Overall, a bit of a work in progress, but definitely in the right direction! read more

Honeysuckle Tea House is a unique gem just outside of Chapel Hill. It is located in a secluded area with wonderful views of nature. I was surprised to see students and young professionals working on their laptops here, especially since the venue is all outdoors and lacks A/C, but kudos to them if it works. The tea I had was good. I'm not typically a tea drinker but if you are, then this would be a nice stop to make on a day trip. I was hoping I'd be sold on the whole tea phenomenon, but I just need to accept the fact that I'm a coffee drinker and won't be budging for a while. Honeysuckle would've had 5 stars in my book, but I hit a "one with nature" threshold when I saw a bunch of ants crawling all over the honey.
