The restaurant gets good marks for its food. I visited with some friends and all of us were impressed at how good our dishes were. I wouldn't say they're *really* authentic, but they're as good or better than anything else I've had at a mom & pop place in the US. Prices are very reasonable and the portions huge. The service was friendly and reasonably quick. Now for the downside: It's a cash-only place, which is super inconvenient these days. On top of that, the ambiance, if you want to call it that, comes across as cheap and dodgy, with hand-lettered signs taped haphazardly to the walls. It's clear they're take-out oriented. Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant The decor is straight out of the 80's. Their specials are on a poster board on the wall behind the register. Most of their business are call in orders which they take on a phone with a cord. I believe it's owned and run by a family. Parents are in the kitchen and their kids are either taking orders or studying at a table. And the second most important thing is they only take cash or check. They do not have a credit card machine. Why is that second most important thing? Because the food is worth the wait, the decor, and the hassle of going to an ATM to get food from here. Enjoy! read more

General tso chicken is so good here! It's sweet and tender, I love that I can use the extra sauce with the rice. I've been going here since I was a kid and it doesn't disappoint. Some things have changed in the food but not enough for me to not still crave it. I have to say that it's one of the things I look forward when I visit Chattanooga. I get a combo and switch the egg roll with an egg drop soup. Make sure if you're trying to get Togo, to do a phone call instead website because there's extra fee for online services. I've been going to this Family owned Chinese take away establishment for almost 20 years. It is hands down the best Chinese food I've ever had. I personally get the Cashew Chicken Combo with fried rice and it is unmatched in incredible taste. As I previously mentioned they are family owned and operated, so they have created an enjoyable experience that you can go in or pick up to go. I have searched for an establishment that is just as friendly, fast, and phenomenally made -- no where in the country is a match. Wanted to get a quick dinner after a 12 hr drive. Tried this place. Food was very good. I had one of the healthy specials. Had the chicken with mixed veggies. It has no sauce or salt just steamed with garlic and rice wine. This was excellent, not bland and tasteless as you would think. Ate the whole quart! Wife really liked her choice also . Chinese take out is kind of a crap shoot at times. When visiting the strip mall Chinese restaurants, they all have basically the same menu, the same layout, and the lots of times even the same name! And yet, it's one of our favorite take out foods because it's just so hard to reproduce good Chinese food at home. We've tried lots, but Hong Kong is the one we keep coming back to again and again. The food is not epic, mind you. It's hard to make garlic chicken or beef and broccoli epic. Rice is rice, as long as it's cooked right. But; we've tried a number of different carryout locations when looking for Chinese food and have found that it is not hard to make them terrible and/or bland. Knowing this, it's important to find a location like this one who can be consistent with how they cook their food and have a recipe that tastes good! I've personally had their chicken in garlic sauce, beef and broccoli, cashew chicken, kung pao chicken, chicken lo mien, as well as hot and sour soup, and wonton soup. All were very good so I expect anything else I venture to try will also be as tasty. They only take cash, so be prepared when you show up. Depending on who's behind the counter you may not get the friendliest greetings either. But, if you can look beyond those minor shortcomings, the food here is predictable, has great flavor, and is our go-to for Chinese carryout in East Brainard when the mood strikes. read more

There are few things in life I enjoy more than finding a restaurant that is consistently good. This is one of those restaurants. They have a small dine in area but I always get it to go. They are straight forward and to the point but always answer any questions I have. I can usually put my order in and then drive the 10 min there from my place and my food is already being bagged. They take cash or check only which I sometimes forget but Publix has an atm outside right in the same parking lot so thats convienant. I have tried other local chinese restaurants but this one specializes in Hunan and Szechuan meals which are my favorites. I also refer all my friends to this one and will probably be back soon! read more

This chinese place is decent, that's what I can say. The employees though are fairly rude. We ordered $50+ worth of food for the whole family and were disappointed when an entire order was not included. We called to let them know we were on the way back to get our missing food and they claimed we hadn't even ordered it. We added up our food prices though and we were charged for it. Food was average Chinese food, but the chicken is the kind that gets stuck in your teeth, and the cashew chicken is probably 60% celery. Probably won't go back :/ read more

They don't take credit cards anymore and the menu on line is old. We were used to getting take out from other places. Ordered the meal for 3. Its a ton of food. You need a box to carry it. Hot and sour soup was good. General Tso chicken good. Broccoli beef was good. Spicy chicken was okay. Needed more heat to be spicy. Egg rolls were fresh. Crab Rangoon were okay. This is definitely the best takeout Chinese restaurant in the area. I always get the sesame or General tso chicken, with shrimp fried rice and crab Rangoons. The portions are plentiful, enough that the average person will have leftovers. The food is great and it's always ready in a timely manner. I have family members that get the boneless spare ribs, Mongolian beef, beef broccoli and lo mein and they all have high praise. So why did I give it four stars and not five? Our 2 family members recommended their egg drop soup to my husband and he said it was absolutely delish and definitely as good as my cousin said it was. I waited to order until I arrived at the restaurant on 12/19 and waited about 35 minutes to get my takeout. But it was worth the wait. If you call ahead you'll get your food faster; there were probably at least 10 call in orders ahead of mine, plus several walk-in orders. I ordered the General Tso's chicken combo and it was all delicious. The fried rice was good and the egg roll was standard. But the chicken was all i'd hoped and more - crispy and saucy, slight heat. This little gem is quietly tucked away in a corner of a small strip of stores near the East Brainerd Publix, but it's always been the best Chinese food in or out of town.
