Stop reading and head over here! Favorite food of our trip to Chatt. Mom and pop Mongolian grill that offers both the typical build your own bowl OR the option to do a seafood boil. Highly customizable, as you grab a bowl and make your way down the food bar to choose proteins, veggies, seasonings, and then build your own sauce bowl. At the end of the buffet, you hand them your bowls, tell them what starch you want (rice, brown rice, or noodles) and they hand you a number to place at your table. Our drinks and soup were there waiting for us when we got back to our table. So many options to choose from and our table faves were steak, shrimp, chicken, pineapple, broccoli, water chestnuts, zucchini, carrots, and the noodles. Make sure to utilize the seasonings, as we had to add more once we tasted our food. Favorite kid sauce combo was teriyaki, sweet and sour, with sesame sauce. I really liked sesame, teriyaki, Chao favorite, and a touch of Szechuan (which has a touch of garlic and chili pepper) We had discussed driving down to Chatt for the day, specifically to come back to this restaurant, if that tells you how much we enjoyed our meal. Unfortunately we left disappointed the sauces just didn't seem flavorful, the food took a long time to get to us with half almost done before the other half received the food. The staff behind the counter looks miserable and angry. The food itself had little flavor and the rice was mushy by the time we got it. Chao's Mongolian Grill is fine for a standard "choose your own food adventure" sort of restaurant. The food is always in good order, veggies are crispy, and meats are chilled. The sauces offer a decent variety for different tastes, and you can also sprinkle in a variety of other spices. But, what I really love here is the Korean menu. Up until recently, there has been no printed menu. But, now they have a two-page set of Korean offerings that are really solid. The prices are a tad high, but the portions are really big. Don't forget to ask for kimchi, as well, to round out your experience. I enjoy coming back over and over. Some of my favorite meals are the Jap Chae, Jam Bong, and the Ja Jang Myun. read more

Due to Covid, in lieu of walking the ingredient buffet, we were given a piece of paper and had to check off our protein, vegetable and sauce ingredients. The food was prepared pretty quickly and was very tasty! I had noodles with chicken and pork along with veggies and I think teriyaki sauce. My husband chose rice with similar options/sauce combo. Both bowls had a good portion size and we both had leftovers we enjoyed later in the day. So he had to go through the whole buffet line, pick veggies, and pack them into the TINIEST bowl, then wait in line for them to cook it. i understand how Mongolian works I've had it before. For $14 for one meal of all veggies (i think a 2 year old could have eaten all the veggies) and tofu, that's a joke. Also I don't eat oil, and I swear someone added oil to my dish. I haven't had good Mongolian BBQ in a long time. Is this the best I've ever had? No, but it's good. Interestingly enough you are charged by the weight of your bowl. Ok, I get that they don't want people wasting food, but I think it's kind of a weird way to treat your customers. They have lots of choices for proteins and veggies. Typically the Mongolian BBQs I'm used to they take frozen meat and slice it really thin and then put it out on ice. This place just puts out big chunks of meat and while they are on ice, I was a bit leery of getting chicken or seafood. I want to be assured it's safe to eat. I went with good ol' beef. I piled my bowl high with veggies, lots of water chestnuts, onions, carrots, celery, bok choy, cilantro, napa cabbage. You have to pile the bowl up because when it cooks down, it shrinks by half the size. They also have a good selection of different sauces and seasonings. They don't call me the "Condiment Queen" for nothing. I put lots of garlic and light spices on it and used their house sauce. I tasted a couple of the other sauces and really, they all taste pretty much the same. I added a bit of chili to give it the spicy and sweet combo I love. You have a choice of rice, fried rice, noodles or tortillas?? Ok, kinda of an odd choice but I guess it goes with the fajita flavored chicken they offer as well. I went with plain old rice, but really could have done without it. My bowl was good. Just a basic stir-fry meal. Nothing to brag about but solid food. They did also offer up a seafood boil selection. My friend and I decided to try their shrimp boil with the K-Asian sauce. Man - that was fantastic! I would come here just to have that. It was a half-pound of really nice sized shrimp in the spicy cajun yet asiany type sauce. So rich and delicious. Seriously, that's a great meal on it's own. Next time I'll just do that. The service was friendly and attentive. Our server actually was the one to recommend the K-Asian shrimp and she was right on point. The BBQ is just fine, but that shrimp is to die for. read more

I come here fairly regularly for lunch due to it's convenient location to my workplace. On first sight of the exterior I was slightly hesitant to try it out, but other positive reviews encouraged me. The lunch special comes with soup, which is mostly just broth. You fill up your bowl at the front of the restaurant with your selected ingredients in typical Mongolian BBQ fashion. You have an option of white rice, fried rice, and noodles. I've tried both the fried rice and noodles and they are both tasty. The food has tasted fresh and has been cooked very well every time I've gone. I typically try to sit towards the very back of the restaurant, just to avoid leaving with the smell of the food on my hair and clothes since the kitchen is open to the eating area. Lunch time typically is not too busy, I'm always able to sit down, eat, and return to work in under an hour. read more
