It saddens me to make this review but I can no longer support Hong Kong. Their quality has dropped substantially in the last 5 years. I've been eating here for around 15 years and can no longer say they are the best Chinese in cville (look to Asian express or red lantern for this). Back in the day once on a blue moon you'd get some hard dry chicken in an entree and it just would be what it was because 90% of the time the food was fresh hot and good. Now it seems to be the norm to serve dry days old chicken in their entrees that basically sucks the moisture out of your mouth and stabs you while you try to eat it. Seriously so bad. Their dumplings and noodles are still fine but the main dishes with chicken has suffered severe declines in quality and every single time I eat here now it's bad. I am sorry Hong Kong - until you fix the issue with the chicken we can be bothered to waste our money here anymore. read more

I decided to grab dinner here at the last minute because it was a convenient location. My dinner was truly delicious. It was not too greasy, my chicken was cooked perfectly and, most surprisingly, the vegetables were so fresh and varied and absolutely perfectly cooked. There was zucchini, broccoli (chef's kiss excellent) mushroom, baby corn, snow peas, carrots, celery and I might have forgotten one or two. It was the best american-style chinese dinner I can remember. Clean, classically good cooking. The staff was very friendly and efficient too. I would say, as a note to new visitors, the dining area is like a cafe, nice and convenient, but nothing fancy. I highly recommend trying it. A solid Chinese take out place, and in a town where your options are limited, that's something to say. I got mei fun with cha-siu pork, chicken with broccoli (with white sauce), and orange chicken, which are typically my go-tos at any take out restaurant. All of it was pretty delicious - fairly good portions and decent price too. I'd say my favorite was the mei fun, that I've had better chicken w/broccoli (but the white sauce was pretty yums), and the orange chicken- I could take it or leave it. I can easily see myself ordering from them again in the future. My ordering experience on the phone was pretty typical from a chinese restaurant - make sure to clarify your order several times to ensure you are in fact ordering what you want to. read more

I love the food from here and it's always taste great so that's a solid 5 stars but I've ordered from here a lot since my previous review and what knocks them down is the customer service. If one of the daughters is answering the phone or running the counter then great they're friendly. If the mother is she's just neutral. Not friendly except maybe a thank you and not rude but doesn't smile or seem to appreciate you coming to her family's business. This has been an ongoing thing so it like it just started. Went in to order, rather than calling ahead of time, I had a very bad experience. Although, I had ordered many times previously and the food was good, this time was very different. As I was standing there waiting to order, no one came to help me at the counter to take my order. Then I asked the family at the table if they knew where everyone was and it turned out it was the owners and their family eating as I stood there waiting to order. The man got up from the table while grabbing his hat from the floor, ran his fingers through his hair to place his hat on his head and went immediately to start preparing my food order. Yes this is in fact what happened. I then spoke to him and said: "Sir, are you going to wash your hands?" He didn't understand me after a couple of times a woman stepped up, from here meal, and asked me what is wrong. I recently moved to this side of town and discovered this Chinese food place. Actually it was girlfriend that suggested we try their BBQ chicken sticks when we were looking for a quick bite. Since then I have literally gone back for take out once to twice a week now for about 6 months. I'm sure they are sick of me by now. Only once was the meal sub par but I think that's because my expectations were set so high because of the awesome previous experiences. It was only that once so I'm not going to detract stars like some people on here that flip out on restaurants over spilt milk... literally... probably. Here are some of the things I get on a regular basis and love: Spring rolls - more salty than others I've had but that's not a negative comment. I like flavor. Fried Cream Cheese Wontons: my girlfriends favorite. They are crispy with a sweet cheese and crab mix inside. They are amazing just try them. BBQ chicken stick: basically street vendor chicken satay. They are not American BBQ flavored. More like char and teriyaki. MooShu Chicken: a long time staple of Chinese take out. The hoisen sauce was bangin but the chicken strips were lacking any flavor of their own. All combined with julienned veggies and sauce it's still delicious. Finally, sticky white rice. Hard to mess it up but a very important foundation for lots of Asian cuisine. I get a side every time. In conclusion, I've found their service to be prompt, slight language barrier notwithstanding. Ordering from their menu on "Beyond Menu" app I think results in less errors (on their part). All in all, cville has a sea of Chinese take outs and I think these folks really put in effort to make good food. And that's what it's all about. read more

Delivery time is average, but service is great. The guy even came to the front of my dorm - as in, he /actually/ got out of the car to /actually/ deliver the food. Plus for that. Food is decent. The dinner/lunch specials come with good fried rice, as they put roast pork in it. Probably the best fried rice that comes with Chinese food in Charlottesville. I got the Sesame Chicken, which tasted fine. Nothing special. Egg Drop Soup was considerably less saltier than competitors, which I liked a lot. A whole quart for just $1.75! Reading other reviews, its interesting what people will settle for. I just moved to an apartment complex near this restaurant, we wanted something quick and thought why not. We ordered for pick up as we were across town and could pick it up on our way home. The lady who took our order advised the food would be ready in 15 minutes. We got there in 10 minutes and the food was already bagged and ready to go. I thought that strange since she said 15 minutes and it only took us 10 minutes to get there. I like quick service but when it comes to food being cooked properly, I can wait. When we get home and take out the food, my suspicions were verified. The chicken was almost translucent it was so under cooked. And it wasn't just in my chicken low mein, it was also in my son's chicken fried rice and my nieces combination fried rice. We were hungry and we did not feel like going back to complain, so we picked around the chicken and ate the noodles and rice, which was relatively tasteless and the rice was crunchy. I am willing to drive a little father to get my Chinese food. read more

Really? I have received dozens of food deliveries/ mailing packages at my place, why didn't it work for your restaurant solely? As far as Chinese restaurants go in Charlottesville, this is one of the better options. The service is quick and friendly. The food is certainly Americanized Chinese food, but presumably that's what you're looking for if this is your dining choice. This is your basic carry out Chinese place. Six tables, one with Chinese youngster playing a video game, no air conditioning. There are 30 items on the lunch menu, which come with soup (or a can of pop), pork fried rice or white and generous lunch portion. I got hot and sour soup, which neither hot nor sour, but was chock full of veggies. Mom got the cashew chicken, which she said was good. I got chicken curry, and they graciously subbed tofu at my request. I should save curry for a Thai or Indian restaurant, my bad. Curry apparently meant copious amounts of turmeric and nothing else. I doused it with soy sauce and it was edible. This is an ok place if you don't mind zero ambiance and plastic forks. It would be great for take out. read more

I eat lunch and dinner here a couple times a week as I work over at PVCC. Best Chinese food in town in my opinion. Generous portions, and very inexpensive. I like things hot and spicy, and they make it that way if you ask. The dining room is no frills, they seem to do most of their business in takeout and delivery. Purchased the Sesame Chicken and General Tso's chicken and got physically ill for the next 24 hours.

DO NOT ORDER. Took two hours for our meal to arrive after we called twice and were told it would be arriving within minutes. We were on the phone with them when the food finally arrived- obviously they hadn't made the order when we called the first time. After a 15 minute phone call and plenty of yelling on their end, both towards me and between the translator, who apparently didn't even work for them, and the boss, who refused to give out either her name or her actual job title, the restaurant hung up on me, having refused to refund or comp the food even when I told them that we were more than happy for them to take it back. Extremely unhappy with their rude and unprofessional conduct. Would give 0 stars if possible. read more
