Good variety in the menu but quality consistency could be better. We ordered pho soup, Thai fried rice and wonton soup. The wonton soup tasted extremely salty and looked dark as if someone put soy sauce in it. This is the first time in my entire life where I tasted bad wonton soup. The won ton itself was great. It was just the salty broth. I make this at home, and it is not that difficult to make. It is supposed to be a simple broth (partly the reason why I ordered it because I wanted something simple). I told them about the saltiness. They tried to make it right by bringing out another soup with a better broth. The pho was just okay but was not as fragrant as expected. I am Vietnamese and make this at home as well. Otherwise, it had everything it was supposed to have. The fried rice was a large portion and tasted better than the other two dishes. Overall, it was a good experience. The service was good. We got seated quickly. The ambiance and decor was vibrant. The bathrooms were clean. I came across this spot for lunch on my way back home. It's pretty small with a handful of tables and an open style kitchen. We were sat promptly as there was only one other table at the time there but once we were sat about 5 more tables came in. Our server brought waters to start and I had a Thai tea, which was good, not too sweet- which I like. I order the dumpling as an app, they're pretty small but you get a good amount and the sauce was really good. In order the red curry and my husband ordered the Thai fried rice. Both were really good. I liked his dish a bit more, it was very savory. The red curry had fresh vegetables in it and still had a nice crunch to it, which I like. Excellent Thai spot in Cville! I had been passing by Chang Thai for a few years now and was excited to pop in for lunch. The restaurant is modern and spacious with both indoor and outdoor seating. I was instantly given a table and began ordering my favorite Thai dishes - Spicy Basil Fried Rice with a Thai Tea. I was also happy to see they had Pho on the menu and got myself a bowl. The fried rice is PHENOMENAL! Truly one of the best I have ever had. It a great portion with lots of flavor and an intense spice. The tea paired perfectly providing a soft sweetness to balance out the meal. As for the Pho, it did the job. I felt it was a little on the blander side, but sriracha can always help with that! Inside was well-furnished with flattering wooden accents and cool light fixtures. They did a good job with the space, making it feel warm&vibrant. My bride ordered the Mango Curry ($18) and really liked the flavor, but commented that it was missing two of the ingredients listed on the menu (no snow peas or cashews). The space was a splendid two-level building, and I received quick service. They offer to make many dishes on their menu vegan (though I wish this was marked more clearly), which is a key issue. I ordered some dumplings which were delicious and were delivered with a little crudite and an impressive chili sauce. My tofu dish was fresh, with a robust portion and what tasted like a higher-quality than average tofu with a rich, nutty flavor. The preparation emphasized garlic and basil and it's always interesting how cuisines from completely different parts of the world echo each other. Was initially going to eat at another restaurant but an acquaintance wanted to come here instead. The restaurant has a moderate size parking lot and offer delivery app ordering so that is a plus. Upon entering we were to told to sit anywhere. The interior is on the older side but clean. For appetizer, I had the wonton soup and for my entree I had the drunken noodles. The wonton broth was lacking in seasoning and for the price of 7.99 that was a bit underwhelming. The drunken noodles had a good taste to it, portion size was good, and the spice level was tolerable. This place could use atleast 1 more staff because the foot traffic here is busy and with only two waiter it took a long time for someone to bring us a check. I have been back here a number of times and tried a few different things and everytime I've been the food has been really solid. The prices are great and the portions are huge. Definitely a contender for the best Thai place in cville. Service can be a little slow/kinda abrasive otherwise I generally enjoy coming here. They are always pretty busy and inside is really cute. Usually able to find seating immediately for less than 5 people. The Bangkok combo is awesome, the ginger perfect is great. My favorite thing on the menu is the pattaya noodle because I love seafood. The portion is great and the flavor on the noddles can't be beat. The lad na, pad see ew, pad Thai, drunken noodle and arkannay noodle are also all good. You can't really go wrong. The papaya salad was too sweet in my opinion, and did not have nearly as much spice as I was hoping for, or that I have tasted in other papaya salads. The Pad Thai was pretty solid, and the drunken noodles were as well. I wouldn't say it is the best pad Thai or drunken noodles, but I would order them again. I thought the sauce was super flavorful for the Ka Pow Crispy Pork Belly, and the texture of the meat was good, but I wished it was crispier. This is a snug little place nestled on Chicken Row, easy enough to overlook, but that would be a mistake! The Panang curry, to me, was unusual, but in a great way. Rather than being just red curry, it was spiked with peanut sauce flavor, nicely spicy. The red curry was aligned with what I typically think of, and was also spot on in both creaminess and heat. The star, for sure, was the drunken noodles- tons of heat and an amazing flavor profile. There were lots of takeout orders going out the door, and the giant rice cooker we could see in the kitchen was up to the task. The restaurant is clean and offers quick and friendly service. You order in a tablet in the front and they bring the food to your table. The flavors are deep, complex, authentic and the presentation and service were excellent. Very nice ambiance and decor. Enjoyed talking with the manager about how each dish is prepared at order and not pre-cooked. Enjoyed seeing the pictures she showed me of their cooking prep and process. The Massaman curry was delicious...thick, full bodied and bursting with flavor. Loved the fried Kanom Jeeb for my appetizer and I will order it again and again. Chef's kiss! We really loved the spring rolls, veggie dumplings, and personally my panang curry was delicious. For many of the dishes you could request a spice level. The pad see eaw seemed a little bland and "cold" when it came out so I'd prefer to eat this at other thai restaurants in Charlottesville. Came here for the first time last night and I can definitely say that I would come back. The overall atmosphere was really lively and the food was amazing. I ended up getting the pad see ew, chicken satay, and a lychee tea. The chicken satay was really good with the sauce, the pad see ew was perfectly flavored and balanced, and the tea was good but really sweet. I ended up adding water to it and it was perfect. The only thing that could really be worked on there is the service. It was really slow. It seemed like only two people were service everyone and we had to flag them down for things. My wife was craving Thai food while dropping of our son at UVA, so we decided to give Chang Thai a try. It just opened a few months ago. The 1st floor dinning room was full, so we were seated upstairs. Our server was excellent. Even though we were the only diners upstairs, she did not forget us. Our order was taken after a few minutes. We were able to choose the level of spiciness. The food was brought out quickly and she made sure we had enough water. We had the Crying Tiger, Drunken Noodles, Kapow Crispy Chicken, and Red Chicken Curry. Everything was delicious. The Drunken Noodles was one of the best we have eaten. Crying Tiger was tasty and similar to traditional Thai beef salad. My some loved the Kapow Crispy Chicken. The portions were generous and had left overs to take home. Pad Thai was flavorful and plentiful, some scallions would have brightened it up though! The pork dish was a little bit too tough for my liking although it was flavorful as well.
