This is close to campus and fits a need. I got dumplings filled with a modest amount of tofu and perhaps a vegetable too, with a side of cold noodles and a sesame peanut sauce. The fried dumplings were a bit light on the actual tofu I was hoping for, but the meal delivered a basic satisfaction. My white tea with lychee jellies tasted a bit overbrewed, but the sweet addition worked out well enough that I enjoyed it. The interior has a couple of seats but is quite spartan, and had an overly full trash can as all food was served in takeout containers. So this is not going to be a 5 star everything is perfect review but rather the dumplings are so good that you need to get past the negatives. Unfortunately, the negative is the service. Please know they are so nice but they got my order wrong. I ordered two separate meals and got one meal with the wrong rice but at least we they got the number of Dumplings correct. My son who goes to UVA RAVES about this place so I had high hopes that were dashed with wrong order. Then I tried the unassuming dumplings and dipping sauce. I love dumplings and have eaten them even had Michelin recommended places like Nan Xiang Soup Dumplings. I can confidently and completely say these are the best dumplings. I would get the wrong rice and wrong order so long as I got these dumplings. I can confidently say they are homemade and not some restaurant supply dumplings. I go here every now and then and the experience has always been very pleasant. However, I went in today and made a mistake while ordering and ended up getting the wrong thing (I wanted a matcha tea, asked for a chai on accident). I apologized for the mistake and asked if I could possibly have it remade. I asked politely because I knew it was my bad. However, the man behind the counter stared at me and said, very rudely, "You said you wanted a chai." I apologized again and held the drink back to him, thinking maybe he could save it for himself or someone else. He snatched it from my hand, chucked it into the trashcan with a loud thud, and gave me an ugly look. When he brought the remade drink out, he told me "next time you need to pay more attention, I repeated your order back to you and you said yes." He did all of this in front of both my family and other customers in the store, and I felt humiliated. One customer even walked out, and on our way out he said "I'm not giving them my money." I remained very polite and apologetic the entire time and I was only met with hostility from this man. I do not think it is fair to neither the customers or the business to have someone like that work for them. I definitely will not be going back there if said man is working there. He was extremely impolite and rude, and as someone that has worked in food service, mistakes happen, and you absolutely cannot take it out on customers. It's unprofessional, and I want to repeat that he did all of this IN FRONT OF other customers. Completely ruined my experience. If you're the owner, please consider either speaking to this man about his behavior or firing him. Thank you. And to other customers, if you see a brown, taller, heavyset man with black hair, I advise you to avoid him. Got dumplings is a solid place to get food or boba. I would eat here again 3/5 for meets expectations. The food is good and the prices are very normal, maybe like 10-12 bucks for dumplings and sides. They have a variety of options, such as pork, curry chicken, tofu and shrimp dumplings all of which are good. I like their tofu dumplings a lot if you're meatless. Personally, I find their fried dumplings to be greasier and less crispy than Marco and Lucas and don't like their sauce as much, but the filling is still good. Their sides are okay, the fried rice is good but kinda sad if you're expecting any kind of frills to it. It is white rice with some sauce - they advertise "egg fried rice" but I never see egg in mine. The kimchi seaweed salad and edamame are all good and the peanut noodles are just okay. Marcos has better noodles. Their bubble tea options are great AND they have oat milk as a substitute for free!! You can also adjust the sweetness level - highly recommend bc their drinks are REALLY sweet. They taste average to me, I do like their mango drinks a lot and their Thai tea is solid. Overall average though. Inside is cute, there are a few tables to sit and eat and parking is hard here but there's a garage around the corner and some street parking if it's not too busy of a day. I usually order the pork dumplings, and it is nicely fried and I like the sauce that goes with it, especially because it isn't too sweet. However, the fried rice is pretty bad. Not that it is inedible or anything, but it has no flavor and there is basically nothing in it (it just looks like some soy sauce was put on it). It may as well be plain white rice. Another side I have gotten there is kimchi, which I have no complaints about, but it is hard to get that wrong. Also, I have ordered the ramen here, and it is sub-par as well. I would definitely only come back for the dumplings. The restaurant is pretty small, but I would consider it more of a pick-up place anyways. It does have some seating if you want to eat in there though. I like how they are usually very quick with getting your order ready. This place is so incredible. It is easy to get there, pop in and get what you need. The people running the place are very sweet and they explained a few things to us since we are new in town. The food was amazing. The seaweed salad was on point and some thing that I love so very much. The Thai noodles are served cold, but they had that perfect peanut flavor. We got the sampler dumplings and they were all Perfect. It is definitely a tiny place and if you can get a table, there are only two, it is cool to sit down and eat. However, if you go out to the quad and sit in the grass on a beautiful day and have some food, it is definitely a sight to see. We will definitely be returning here. read more

The dumplings here are awesome. They are fried well and the content inside is flavorful. However, the other menu options outside of their fried dumplings are not very good. Including the sides that come with the dumplings. I usually order the pork dumplings with one side-- either the fried rice or cold peanut noodles depending on what I'm feeling that day-- just to cut down on the heaviness of the dumplings. The fried rice is dry and not cooked very well for fried rice. In my opinion, it at least needs something else in it like more eggs. The cold peanut noodles are plain and would at least benefit from some slices of cucumber. I believe that the location on the corner is better than the food truck at the UVA amphitheater. However, in my opinion the food truck is one of the best options for spending plus dollars if you are a first year student. Overall, I think that the portions are decent but the food is slightly overpriced for what they offer considering that you can get much more diverse and fulfilling meals in the area (not only dumplings) for roughly the same price. It's a quaint little place with a nice view of the hustle and bustle of the downtown/UVa Medical Center. The cashier/service provider is a bit of a challenge to understand as well, perhaps I am to her. But once I received my dumplings and got past the uncertainty of what exactly was inside all of them, they were very good. Even the ones that were a bit of a mystery. She was very short with explanations of the ingredients. Which led me to make the mistake of ordering fried rice. It didn't seem fried at all. I'm in Charlottesville for the weekend, looking for a good Chinese or dumpling spot. Lo and behold, I find Got Dumplings on Yelp. I got delivery and ordered the pork dumplings as well as their cookies and cream (oreo) boba. Big fan of the dumplings! I can see why many UVA students go here for their dumpling fix. There was an ample amount of filling, which was well seasoned and very tasty as well. The wrapper is thin, which creates a nice opportunity for you to taste the meat. The dough is high quality and there are even little crispy bits, too. I loved the dipping sauce they served this with. It was a bit sweet, but went very well with the dumplings. Reasonable price for the portion (although it's probably not enough for a meal to most). Their boba was okay, but nothing really special. I wanted to have a bit of creaminess to this drink, but it's wasn't that creamy. It wasn't very flavorful in general. The boba pearls tasted fine, and they do give you a large container (although there is also quite a bit of ice and it's pretty expensive). All in all, I'd probably pass on the boba. THE BLACK AND WHITE: After a long day of wine tastings, I was craving ramen and dumplings and the bae had something in mind, Got Dumplings. Apparently it started off as a food truck but business was so good it expanded to a brick and mortar store. NICE! We were starving so we got 10 dumplings (5 pork, 5 shrimp/chive), two sides (seaweed salad, peanut noodles), and an original tonkotsu ramen. Service was fast and the dumplings were fresh. Good dumplings, not amazing. The ramen was pretty good, broth had a nice flavor and the noodles were cooked well. Conveniently located on the corner, this is my go to place when I crave potstickers but am too lazy to cook them myself. They are by no means the most amazing potstickers, but they are freshly fried upon order and do hit the spot. I love the chicken potstickers for their curry flavor - which is different from the usual frozen dumpling offerings at supermarkets. The shrimp and chives potstickers are quite tasty as well, though they are much smaller and have a different dumpling skin. The egg fried rice smells great but is 90% just rice - great for those days when you're extra hungry, but otherwise nothing to write home about. Kimchi and seaweed salad are also great sides for balancing out the meaty/oily flavors. Got Dumplings also offers ramen (just bleh) and bubble tea (from powder and too sweet), neither of which I am impressed with. I would stick to the potstickers. read more

The wonton wrapper is super crunchy and delicious while the inside is extremely flavorful, especially with the sauce. The pork is my favorite but the chicken curry dumplings are amazing as well. The shrimp isn't my favorite, but if you like shrimp dumplings, they're probably considered pretty good. We were craving soup and dumplings. We made a wise choice by stopping by here. The parking may be a bit complex but we were able to find a parking space right across from the shop. The space of the restaurant was small but big enough to give everyone a place to sit. The decor was on point. We ordered the 15 dumplings tray with a bowl of ramen. The food came out instantly -- fresh too! We were able to order 3 different kinds of dumplings which consisted of the regular pork dumpling, curry chicken, and shrimp and chives. All of the dumplings were amazing! The texture of the wrap was just right! My favorite had to be the shrimp and chives. The ramen was delicious as well. It was the right amount of food at the right price. We also ordered a slush boba tea and milk tea. The slush boba tea was out of this world! The texture was on point, similar to a smoothie. When I first came to Charlottesville, I threw my money at the Got Dumplings food truck all the time, for any reason. Just got out of class on Tuesday? Pork dumplings with seaweed salad. Aced a midterm? I'll take a Thai tea. Feeling bougie and/or forgot my water bottle on dorm? Just a bottled water, please. The same applied, to a lesser extent, to the physical location on the Corner--I craved boba tea often. As I've branched out more, though, I've found I eat at GD less and less, in either location. It's not because the food is bad. The dumplings, especially the pork dumplings, are good, with some flavor to the meat filling. My go-to side of seaweed salad keeps me satisfied, and the Thai tea (among other specialty drink options) makes any day feel better. I think the issue, for me at least, is this: GD has a very narrow niche, and they fill it well. Not well enough, though, to make me want to eat dumplings any more than I usually would. The dumplings aren't heavenly, the sauce is mediocre, and not all sides are created equal (I find the Asian salad bland and hard to eat with chopsticks). Their advantages in convenience and trendiness don't quite hold up when you see the bigger picture. I'll definitely keep stopping by the food truck for a Thai tea or a midday snack every once in a while, and I'll be happy to do so. But if I'm heading to the Corner, I'll probably look elsewhere unless I'm in the mood for boba. read more

I'm a really big fan of Got Dumplings as a franchise and their food truck is definitely a great way for students to get some good food on Plus Dollars. However, I would not come to the physical restaurant again expecting an amazing meal. I ordered the udon and have had the ramen, and it's really nothing special. Just some noodles in broth, with the typical ramen components of an egg (overboiled), lots of green onions, seaweed, and a few pieces of pork. The broth is really heavy for some reason. I also ordered the kimchi as a side, which was disappointingly soggy and unflavorful. They do give a lot, which is great! I do want to point out that Got Dumpling's Thai Tea is one of the best things to exist on the Corner. It's very sweet but not too sweet, and the flavor never changes. I have come back just for the Thai Tea (with or without bubbles) so many times in the past few years, I may have an addiction. 10/10 would recommend that, but not the food. read more

The only good thing I have to say about this place is that the dumpling are okay! The rest was shameful and utter disappointment. The fried rice is not fried rice at all but just rice with intermittent soy sauce on it, I think I saw one piece of egg in the whole thing. See picture. The ramen is the worst I've ever had. The flavor is lackluster and it has very little ingredients. The chai tea tastes like green tea with cinnamon. The Vietnamese coffee tastes like old coffee that may have been burnt.
