You know what, first impressions the Hong Kongnese owners seem like as*holes with that Ronny Chieng "Give me your money and f*ck off vibes.." but hey, you know what, they get a pass.. I totally understand....when you in a neighborhood and you once gave a damn about dining in, then COVID hits, and everything is worn down, carpets need revamping, wallpaper needs proper care, customers *some* are difficult to deal with, as a owner, you say, "f*ckit, if they want our food, they come stand in line and do take out." And so it was at that moment, having driven my rig into the WhiteHaven Plaza, making sure I didn't piss off the patrolling security and walking into this forgotten time capsule that I realized....what is this place ....social security and family help services....a dimly lit lamp of an Asian Pawn Shop owner taking orders at a window with a warm spot light on him, with green hues around...a ton of black people....hear me out, this is culture shock.. I've lived in South Dallas before, I've been around black folk...but to be the only Asian customer in line, and for the entirety of the 1 hours to 2 hours there not seeing any white people....that's a first! Well...come to think of it, living in Los Angeles over the decades...never really venture out to Compton or Crenshaw back in the days to have Chinese food, so if this many Black People all line up and spend their hard earned monies on Hong Kong Restaurant.....must be some DAMN good Chinese food. AND YES!!!!!! After placing my order and getting everything packed in a paper bag, I dug everything out went right in and I said, "Hong Kong Uncle and Auntie....you guys have EVERY RIGHT to be A**holes....Keep serving the community!!!" Food was Grade A in a Grade F environment. The Hong Kong Original Chicken Wings...you know what it reminded me of? You can't really find these in LA...it's like Foil Wrapped Chicken marinaded in Teriyaki, White Pepper, MSG, and Cinnamon, then fried. So much goodness, so much flavor, and having not had anything remotely close to foil wrap chicken since...2017 when I was working in a remote kitchen in bum f*ck nowhere RockSprings Wyoming....this was a piece of heaven! The Hot & Sour Soup...靠！！！ 真他媽好喝！！ Sorry translation, "so f*cking good!!!" I wanted to light a cigarette up indoors (because this place gives off indoor smoking permitted vibes) and just slowly savor the hot and sour soup packed with so much ingredients, not overwhelmed with bamboo shoots, with decent amounts of mushrooms but not those woodear shroom, this is American Hot & Sour Soup 2.0, the evolved form that fits non-Chinese people palates, and I downed an entire Large Container of it, not a drop wasted! And then I move onto the holy grails....Hong Kong Restaurant House Fried Rice and Kung Pao Chicken! Since I'm a traveling blue collared tourist, and don't really get to experience the dining scene in a town like Memphis unless I'm at a nearby Logistics Hub experiencing some down time and I get to explore town....having not tried any other Chinese restaurant and this being the only other fried rice I've tried between the states of Oklahoma, Arkansas and Tennessee....... Hong Kong's House Fried Rice is singlehandedly probably the best Fried Rice I've had since my days back in 2018s working up in Greeley Colorado with a Guangzhou Super Chef and up in Monterey California with another old timer Chinese Chef when they used to make staff meals and you thoroughly enjoyed the fried rice, every overnight grain, coated with msg, soy sauce, scallions. Onions, garlic, thrown into a Wok with High Bursting Flames, charring each grain, giving each grain that solidarity, smoking flavor....ya, this is the type of fried rice you can only experience with true OG Chinese Chefs, or at the very least, the owners need to know the elements that goes into making genuine Cantonese soy sauce fried rice. Absolute chef's kiss. Here in a worn down Chinese restaurant, with owners that really just DGAF, but they kept the soul of the food intact, they look toward retirement, maybe look towards getting out of there, but because they make Good food, and they love money more, and people just keep lining up for takeout here making Panda Express look amateur....I'm gonna say it...Uncle and Auntie are the most low key millionaires...... As for the Kung Pao Chicken, a tad bit too much gravy, but I finished it all in two sittings. Americanized Kung Pao Chicken, way better than Pandas. So to all the tourists on Yelp Questioning this place. This is probably the equivalent of Elvis Presley's Historical Landmark Mansion couple blocks down but for Chinese food in the state of Tennessee..just go..be enlightened. read more

Awful and overpriced. Not a single thing on the menu seemed to have the same price as they charged. They have laminated menus with sharpie all over them with significantly higher prices. I ordered the pepper steak. I think they forgot to put in peppers and steak. It was just sauce and onions! The inside of the restaurant is just as bad as the food. Very uninviting and definitely not a place I'd want to bring a date or eat in. After having the food no more takeout either. The only positive things I can say is the overpriced eggroll was good and the bottle of Coke Zero. I wouldn't send my worst enemy here. I took a couple bites and tossed it. Well all the reviews said "the BEST shrimp fried rice" so I wanted to try it. Thursday evening 5:00p I walked in and placed my order. They are very organized and wait time was less than 20 minutes, if that! I ordered a large shrimp fried rice and a pork eggroll. 10 minutes later I was on my way home. $10.50 for large SFR and $1.75 for eggroll. Got home and eggroll was just lukewarm which is odd because I've gotten eggrolls before and get home and they are still hot. But I digress. Shrimp fried rice was just basic and nowhere near the "BEST" I've had. I wanted it to be good but it just was ok, nothing special. I was super glad they had cooked egg and no peas or carrots. Price point was very good but probably won't go back. No real ambiance more of a take-out spot but they run like a well oiled machine. The biggest flex is they have large and plenty of shrimp. On 05/29/2025, I ordered a lg. Mongolian Beef, with fried rice, and an order of chicken on the stick. My order weekly comes to about $38.00. I have notice a price increase on their menu items, so it's not to say, they haven't gone up. Mongolian Beef last year was $13.95, now it's $18.95, and the quantity has gotten smaller. They gave me a box of onions and hardly not beef. The chicken on the stick has gotten smaller also. So I got very small potions of beef in my order and higher prices. Now, for customer service, The elderly cashier is very short to customers that have questions about what they are buying. I don't have a problem with her conversation or response to me because i'm known there. So I will sum it up here, sm. potions, higher prices !! I used to spend approx. $150.00 a month there, but not any more. That's a lot of money for onions !!! Sorry, very disappointed. read more

Okay I was in for an unexpected treat. I've heard a lot about this place for their fried rice, I decided to add the soup just in case it wasn't to my liking and I'm so glad I did. This is the BEST wonton soup I've ever had in life the shrimp fried rice was not that great. It was pretty dry and starchy tasting lacked a lot of flavor and I probably wouldn't order that again, but I will definitely be back for the soup without a doubt. The service was pretty straightforward. Don't expect a warm welcome with a gracious smile more so of What do you want? Place your order, remember your ticket number check your items that they are made correctly before you leave. The ambience of the place is not really welcomed for a dining experience more so grab and go. I will say although I placed my order ahead of time. Went wit my son after getting eye exams, cause we dont live in the area. 1st off, I watched their interactions with customers, not kind or friendly. More like the customers are a nuisance. My first time here. Ordered a chop suey and it was incredible. They called it a chow mein and then told me it's the same thing as a chop suey. I'm not sure about that. I'll have to look into it. I don't know a lot about this food so I'm learning. My only criticism is that since it was a wet type of dish, maybe the rice should have been served separately so as not to become soggy. Ah, but it didn't get soggy. Even though this was plain rice, I really liked it. It was cooked well and it was firm. I think this can only come from the intense heat of the wok. You can't get rice this good with a hibachi or a griddle like those Japanese use. And did I mention that my meal came out in like 5 minutes? Great service along with a great meal. Stumbled upon this place near my work. Was looking for a decent Chinese restaurant and tried it out. First thing that caught my eye was that they had the traditional Ma Po tofu with minced pork. It was like how my made it. Enough tofu and minced pork with a little spice and topped off with green onions. Second was the $7 Hot and sour soup. I was very intrigued on why it was a little pricey and just had to try it to see. The soup was made to order and comes in only one size. The taste is a little sweeter and not as sour as your other hot and sour soups you find at restaurants. I actually prefer this mandarin style and I think I have found my Favorite hot and sour soup in town. Third dish was the basic chicken fried rice. They add egg, onion and bean sprouts to their fried rice. I love bean sprouts so that was great. The chicken itself lacked flavor but the fried rice in whole had a nice flavor to it that you would expect freshly tossed in a hot wok. I like this place for a quick chinese bite near my work area. The food is usually pretty good. However, the last couple of times that I ate food from here, I noticed that started to feel nauseous. This was reason #1 that I stopped going. I grew up in this neighborhood so I know that the people in this area are the reason the restaurant has done so well. With that being said, customer service could be better. Some of the employees (not sure if they're owners or what) are just rude. They act like you're an inconvenience just by ordering your food. I could tell because the texture was different. On the phone I was told "don't buy it anymore. And I was the only one to call and complain." Just because people don't call doesn't mean they're satisfied with the meal. But at this point you're being really cheap and charging the same price. I was also told they use bean powder in the egg foo yong. Which I noticed the food was very slippery and hunks of a gummy substance. I guess that was the bean powder turning into a dumpling. Arrive: Short tempered owner not interested in being helpful - I get that he's wrangling a steady stream of people and indecisiveness - but no need to be so gruff. Hurriedly places my order. But No hot tea....At a Chinese restaurant- Ok. Whatever. Prepared quickly I'll give them that. Food was inexpensive, mostly fresh and hot - once I finally found some cutlery from the front desk of the hotel to eat it with- since they gave me nothing. It was decent food. While visiting my parents my husband and I were in the mood for Chinese and I remembered my parents taking me here as a young child. Outside, granted the area is sketchy and Inside, the restaurant is set up completely different from when I remember. When you walk in you go to the counter at the end of the room, grab a menu, order your meal, make the purchase and wait for you're number to be called. The staff has their system down pat and our large order for 4 people was delivered without any error at a very affordable price. Stopped by here because it was close by. Service was good: quick and courteous staff. Ma Po Tofu was just as expected with finely sliced rectangular tofu with minced pork and green onions. It was slightly spicy but that was expected. On point and good. The hot & sour soup was expensive for a bowl but must have been made to order. It's a different style leaning heavier on the sweet side. Thick and hearty but not enough sour to my liking. The chicken fried rice was decent. Bean sprouts are added so it's not the usual style fried rice. The soy sauce from the rice made up for the flavor, but the chicken was bland. This is the BEST Chinese food in Memphis! I will drive 30 minutes across town and pass several Chinese restaurants to come here to satisfy my Chinese food craving... Not a fancy restaurant, so no need to dress fancy, LOL. They give good portions, and it's best to eat half and take the rest home (For your figure's sake. LOL.) My favorite dishes here are the Egg Foo Young ( I always get shrimp), and the Lo Mein (any kind) and Shrimp fried rice are the BOMB. I order my shrimp fried rice spicy... That's the Korean in me. I've had the Beef Brocolli which is wonderful... I always get the Chinese fried chicken wings... Egg rolls are ok... Everything that I've tried here is very good. I get the same things because I'm the kind of person that likes what they like, but I will try other items if I'm in that new adventurous type of mood. I have been eating here for years. Today I went in and ordered the orange chicken dinner combination and after eating a few bites I instantly felt sick to the stomach. The quality and taste of the food has went downhill. The last few times I've went the food has been horrible.
