    Shrimp in the rice
    Monica W.

Well all the reviews said "the BEST shrimp fried rice" so I wanted to try it. Thursday evening 5:00p I walked in and placed my order. They are very organized and wait time was less than 20 minutes, if that! I ordered a large shrimp fried rice and a pork eggroll. 10 minutes later I was on my way home. $10.50 for large SFR and $1.75 for eggroll. Got home and eggroll was just lukewarm which is odd because I've gotten eggrolls before and get home and they are still hot. But I digress. Shrimp fried rice was just basic and nowhere near the "BEST" I've had. I wanted it to be good but it just was ok, nothing special. I was super glad they had cooked egg and no peas or carrots. Price point was very good but probably won't go back. No real ambiance more of a take-out spot but they run like a well oiled machine. The biggest flex is they have large and plenty of shrimp. I counted maybe 10 shrimp and they were average size shrimp to me.

The philly cheesesteak eggrolls changed my life. Unexpected combo but delicioso. Sesame Chicken hitting too

Okay I was in for an unexpected treat. I've heard a lot about this place for their fried rice, I decided to add the soup just in case it wasn't to my liking and I'm so glad I did. This is the BEST wonton soup I've ever had in life the shrimp fried rice was not that great. It was pretty dry and starchy tasting lacked a lot of flavor and I probably wouldn't order that again, but I will definitely be back for the soup without a doubt. The service was pretty straightforward. Don't expect a warm welcome with a gracious smile more so of What do you want? Place your order, remember your ticket number check your items that they are made correctly before you leave. The ambience of the place is not really welcomed for a dining experience more so grab and go. I will say although I placed my order ahead of time. I did have to wait and people never stopped coming in the entire time I waited. Overlooking the service I would totally come back for the soup to go.

Hong Kong in the haven is the STANDARD! PERIOD! During this quarantine I have been traveling home because I literally have nothing holding me in Nola at the moment. So once I got to Memphis I was in the mood for some great Chinese and the first place I thought was HONG KONG. This restaurant in the historic Whitehaven area in Memphis right up the street from Elvis Presley's house. Literally I've been going here since I was a kid and it's still SLAPS till this day! I honestly don't know what's makes their food so goood but baby when I tell you this probably one of the best Chinese spots that will give your entire life! I decided to get veggie fried and I have only 1 bad thing to say. I forget to tell them no mushrooms I hate them but other then that! That rice was hitting the way it to be! Next time your in Memphis and you want some good Chinese takeout check them out! #foodie #neworleansfood #brunch #fun #travel #traveler #Uptown #foodgasm #foodporn #seafood #foodie #reviews #explore #explorepage #viral #blackfoodblogger #blackfoodie #nolaeats #neworleansfoodie #memphisfoodie #chinese #veggies #901eats #memphiseats #quarantine #eatlocal

    Fried chicken wings

I've only been a few times, a friend and I ate there , she suggested. Ok, not impressed with the 1st visit. But I was rushing, busy day so i charged it to my activity. Went wit my son after getting eye exams, cause we dont live in the area. 1st off, I watched their interactions with customers, not kind or friendly. More like the customers are a nuisance. Tried to overcharge, it wasnt much but just think how many of their customers dont look at their total n question the prices. But most importantly, the quality of the food. My food made me question everything about this establishment. I returned the chicken wings, lost my appetite. Didnt even finish my fried rice. Now, i wonder what the kitchen looks like and if they properly store food, etc.. No, i dont suggest them nor will i return to this establishment.

Chop suey was incredible and I really like their rice too.
    Brian L.

My first time here. Ordered a chop suey and it was incredible. They called it a chow mein and then told me it's the same thing as a chop suey. I'm not sure about that. I'll have to look into it. I don't know a lot about this food so I'm learning. My only criticism is that since it was a wet type of dish, maybe the rice should have been served separately so as not to become soggy. Ah, but it didn't get soggy. Even though this was plain rice, I really liked it. It was cooked well and it was firm. I think this can only come from the intense heat of the wok. You can't get rice this good with a hibachi or a griddle like those Japanese use. And did I mention that my meal came out in like 5 minutes? Great service along with a great meal. I thought it was weird all the signs and arrows and all the instructions telling people where to go. I thought common sense would just tell someone to either sit at a table or go to the counter. Are they really ever that busy where people have to rely on signs to help guide their way?

Stumbled upon this place near my work. Was looking for a decent Chinese restaurant and tried it out. First thing that caught my eye was that they had the traditional Ma Po tofu with minced pork. It was like how my made it. Enough tofu and minced pork with a little spice and topped off with green onions. Second was the $7 Hot and sour soup. I was very intrigued on why it was a little pricey and just had to try it to see. The soup was made to order and comes in only one size. The taste is a little sweeter and not as sour as your other hot and sour soups you find at restaurants. I actually prefer this mandarin style and I think I have found my Favorite hot and sour soup in town. Third dish was the basic chicken fried rice. They add egg, onion and bean sprouts to their fried rice. I love bean sprouts so that was great. The chicken itself lacked flavor but the fried rice in whole had a nice flavor to it that you would expect freshly tossed in a hot wok. I like this place for a quick chinese bite near my work area. It's not the best but it's good.

There were at least another 10 packets of sauce for the two of us. But no forks or napkins.

I haven't had the best of luck with Chinese food in Memphis so I did everything I could to suppress this unwanted craving, however, I just couldn't help myself. Little Petals pops up on Yelp as a possibility. I read the reviews and scrolled through the pictures. After looking at the location, I realized it was only an 8-minute drive from where we were. Why not, right? The restaurant is easy to miss. It sits right on the corner in an old shanty building nestled in the middle of downtown Memphis. The furniture and décor were of a standard Chinese eatery, nothing special; but the employees were warm and welcoming, greeting me with hellos and smiles. I got the black pepper chicken that came with a spring roll. I ordered an extra side of pork egg rolls because that's usually my go to. Everything was fantastic! It gives you the taste of that old school Chinese food you used to have as a kid, but better quality. The chicken was moist, flavorful and peppery. The egg rolls had the perfect amount of crispy crunch---they seemed handmade as well! Pricing is a little higher from when I was a kid, but you still won't break the bank here! As I started to think that great Chinese food was not an option for Memphis, Little Petals showed up at the right time and made me a believer!

So, Little Petals, i.e., Petals of a Peony, Jr.: no one was inside. I assume this to be per usual for 2:30pm on a Tuesday. It follows then, that the service was, um, efficient and bespoke. Ordered the pork eggrolls (very good, the sauce that came with it - oddly the perfect amount was given in a little rectangular container - made these delectable) and the General Peony's Chicken. And this was damned good. Pricey for lunch, but I could have made 2 or 3 meals off of it. A satisfying amount of heat from the szcheuan (sp?) peppers; not overly breaded so as to make it a fried dough dish, but rather to carry the sauce on the chicken; the chicken was a quality cut, nicely sized per bite. A new go-to for lunch downtown.

The inside is eclectic, it's not fancy...though this isn't a bad thing. It's a nice escape from the run-of-the-mill Chinese take-out places (where you can eat inside also), it's not trying to be corporate-flashy. Best I can describe it is authentic to the people who own the joint. And I like it; a couple of fish tanks, some kitsch, the odd neon signs inside (over the bar, on the west wall towards the rear), the unused area to the right of the bar. Somethings work, something's are out of place, but it's a testament to the longevity of the location. So the food: the value is great. The apps were middle-of-the-road (sweet fire shrimp, spicy cucumbers (sans spicy but ponzu), spring rolls. The stand out was the hot and sour soup. Nothing really novel about it, but exactly what I was looking for. As the duck sauce was a bit sweet for the spring rolls to my liking, I found it necessary, and delicious, to dunk the spring rolls in the hot and sour soup. The Scientist had her usual kung-pao chicken. Really good, if not a bit basic (though the slight notch up of heat from the Szechuan peppers was appreciated). I went with the Peking duck. It's the most expensive thing on the menu (as it is everywhere else), but worth it. This is going to feed 2-3 or a big meal there and a healthy portion to take home. The skin crispy, the meat moist. Bones removed, but for the wings and thigh bones...it was appreciated. Served with Chinese pancakes and onions and a delightful hoisin. Highly recommended. The staff was delightful. Efficient (if not a little too efficient; we had two servers ask for our order), attentive, hospitable. We don't really have a go-to for Chinese food.
