Glad to see a place with pretty exceptional entrees has taken over this location...everything else here before was standard 'I feel like Asian food for (meal)', and then I'd settle for this spot (as the Wang's on Main long ago closed doors and became a Dollar General - Memphis being Memphis) leaving underwhelmed and over spent. So, Little Petals, i.e., Petals of a Peony, Jr.: no one was inside. I assume this to be per usual for 2:30pm on a Tuesday. It follows then, that the service was, um, efficient and bespoke. Ordered the pork eggrolls (very good, the sauce that came with it - oddly the perfect amount was given in a little rectangular container - made these delectable) and the General Peony's Chicken. And this was damned good. Pricey for lunch, but I could have made 2 or 3 meals off of it. A satisfying amount of heat from the szcheuan (sp?) peppers; not overly breaded so as to make it a fried dough dish, but rather to carry the sauce on the chicken; the chicken was a quality cut, nicely sized per bite. I love a good Chinese restaurant and I was excited to try this place since it's on the Michelin guide. To be correct as my husband would point out this is not the specific Michelin recognized restaurant but a sister restaurant. The same items are sold here yet this is a fast casual version with a drive thru. I have never been to the original restaurant so I could not compare but I thought overall it was pretty good. The price for a bento box was really reasonable I believe it was about $10. For that price you get a protein, a base, an egg roll or spring roll, and a drink. The portions were very decent! I wish they had other drink options available other than soft drinks. Technically you can get a bottled tea but it's an up charge. If I lived in the area I could def see me wanting fast food and getting this. It's definitely better quality than food court Chinese food. read more

Called this evening and placed an order to be picked up immediately after placing the order the rain came down and we called right back to cancel the order and instead the guy told me we could have it delivered to our hotel ... so an hour later they are now closed still no food ... they charged my card for food totaling over $65 ... not cheap by any means .... And no food!! We called them but to no avail so we have had to order from somewhere else and pay for more food ... they don't open again until Monday ... so that means no refund or any kind of resolution until Monday... this is a very poor way to do business.... So yummy, but not consistent. We have ordered several times now. The first time, the general peony's chicken and spicy dumplings were not spicy at all. We suggested that meal to our friends because they don't like spice. When they got it, it was super spicy. I've moved my order to the sizzling chicken, and it is fantastic. Little Petals hits the spot with better than average Chinese favorites. The space at this location is laid out well, with bright decor and good seating. The portions are generous in the bento boxes. I chose their version of General Tso's chicken. It was good with nice spice, but a little dense. One or two of the batter pieces had no chicken inside. The rice and spring roll were perfect. Service is friendly, and there were repeat customers around recommending what they love. That's always a good sign. read more

Memphis might be on to something! After a 6.5 hour drive from Dallas, we get to Memphis and I am longing for Chinese food. I haven't had the best of luck with Chinese food in Memphis so I did everything I could to suppress this unwanted craving, however, I just couldn't help myself. Little Petals pops up on Yelp as a possibility. I read the reviews and scrolled through the pictures. After looking at the location, I realized it was only an 8-minute drive from where we were. Why not, right? The restaurant is easy to miss. It sits right on the corner in an old shanty building nestled in the middle of downtown Memphis. The furniture and décor were of a standard Chinese eatery, nothing special; but the employees were warm and welcoming, greeting me with hellos and smiles. I got the black pepper chicken that came with a spring roll. I ordered an extra side of pork egg rolls because that's usually my go to. Everything was fantastic! It gives you the taste of that old school Chinese food you used to have as a kid, but better quality. The chicken was moist, flavorful and peppery. The egg rolls had the perfect amount of crispy crunch---they seemed handmade as well! Pricing is a little higher from when I was a kid, but you still won't break the bank here! As I started to think that great Chinese food was not an option for Memphis, Little Petals showed up at the right time and made me a believer! read more

Cute, clean and delicious Chinese food. The food came out very quickly and it was very tasty and portions were generous. We had spicy crispy chicken, hot and sour soup (large) and cucumber salad. Plenty for 2 people. Cucumbers were a nice contrast with the spicy chicken. I kind of wished the chicken had sauce on it to give something for the rice to soak up, but the flavor was great. Have eaten there at least once a week since they opened and have not been disappointed. The cumin beef is spectacular. Also like the breakfast eggs-and-tomato stir fry. The beef and wild pepper is good also - three kinds of pepper: Bell pepper, hot chili peppers, and Szechuan pepper. read more

I ordered the Bento box to go. I got the fried rice with the peony chicken. I was impressed when I first picked the box up with how heavy it was. They give a lot of food so it's great value for $10. I've been to the other location so I wasn't worried about whether the food would taste good as Petals of a Peony has always made delicious food. And the food was delicious as expected. Petals does a good job of making food to-order. My order was piping hot and fresh. They're quick too. My order was ready in less than ten minutes. I've lived in downtown Memphis for three years and was always disappointed with the lack of quick and tasty food options that were reasonably priced. Glad to see that they've opened a downtown location. This will be my go to for quick bites or if I don't have food at home. Parking isn't too bad on the weekend if you're looking to dine in. Elevated Chinese takeout! Stopped in here on a work trip and I will be returning every time I visit. I got the Bento Box with General Peony's Chicken and Lo Mein. I got an extra side of rice for $1.50 so I could make this last me for 2 meals and it was plentyyyyy of food. I was so surprised with how much food you got for the price! And the quality of both the chicken and the flavor of the noodles were great for $10. The service at the register was super sweet, I ordered an extra side last minute and he repacked it for me and stapled it all back together for my walk back to hotel, it was such a nice gesture. There are no vegetables included except for some chopped onion. Most restaurants add carrots, bean sprouts, mushrooms, and broccoli with the Shrimp. I got the Dandan noodles, spicy crunchy chicken, and egg drop soup. The spicy chicken was okay, but the smaller pieces were tough and overcooked. I was really unsatisfied with how salty the egg drop soup was, but it was manageable with the wonton crisps. The biggest disappointment for me was the Dandan noodles. When I opened the package, they smelt like they were spoiled. The noodles were soggy and thick, as if it had been sitting around for a couple days. And when I tasted it, it was so salty! The noodles themselves were pretty salty but the meat made it basically inedible. It was especially disappointing because the Dandan noodles are one of my favorites dishes at the original petals and I wanted to give this location a try as well. read more

Food is good but the guy in the front has crap service. First time i came here, half an hour before close he tells me theyre closed. Then an old lady comes out and says theyre open, but only gave me three choices. Okay cool, food is still good and fresh. Today i go in and want half rice and half greens with protein to reduce carb intake, and hes like no i cant do. To me it just seems like hes lazy and doenst want to even try to accomodate. Omg , my boyfriend recommended this place when he came in town , and it was sooo amazing. He had the general tso chicken while I had the lomein and we shared the chicken dumplings. The only thing I didn't like was the chicken in the lomein which was a bit chewy and soft. read more

The staff here are friendly, helpful and courteous. Andrew went above and beyond taking care of me as I had arrived with injuries I had incurred from a fall on the sidewalk prior to my arrival at the restaurant.
