Over my last few visits, the quality hasn't felt as consistent as it used to be. One thing I still find strange is that despite the name "Foot Reflexology," my feet are never actually massaged during a full-body session. I used to really look forward to coming here, but now I mostly stop in only when I really need a massage.

The masseuse was nice but there was absolutely no technique or pressure. He was just rubbing my calves in oil up and down with no pressure whatsoever. I asked for more pressure and he said he understood. But he continued to just rub my legs and feet. Instead of a massage it felt like I was just getting stroked. Left the experience unsatisfied. Told the receptionist and she was kind enough to offer a $5 credit. Didn't take it because I won't be going back.

The gentleman at the front desk is running that place better than most people I've seen run a massage therapy business. He even takes text messages up into a certain part of the evening after the business is closed to try to fit you in and knows what his opens are within 5 to 10 minutes of you texting them. I would love to gate keep this place to myself but I know that they don't need my endorsement for the great things that happen here. Though I won't gate keep the location I will gate keep my therapist (for now) However if I know you personally message me and I'll tell you who she is.. Overall the only place I'll be going to in 2026 unless something changes.

Unfortunately, the experience at checkout completely changed how I felt leaving. When I booked over the phone, I specifically stated that I would be using a gift certificate. Nothing was disclosed at that time about an additional charge. After my massage, I was told I owed an extra $10 because of the age of my gift certificate. I questioned the charge, and ultimately I was not charged the additional $10, but only after I pushed back and questioned why I owed anything at all. The certificate was purchased in December 2024 and states "4x massages," not a dollar amount to be applied toward massages. Hands of Joy has also not increased its massage prices since the certificate was purchased. What concerned me even more was that after I questioned the charge, additional wording was handwritten onto my gift certificate that had not been there when it was originally purchased or given to me. I will be attaching a photo of the certificate for transparency. Terms added after a gift certificate has already been purchased are obviously not terms the purchaser could have agreed to at the time of purchase. I am away for school for months at a time, so naturally it can take me longer to use a multi-massage gift certificate. Being made to feel as though that was somehow an issue, especially over a gift that had already been paid for, took me from feeling completely relaxed to feeling frustrated and belittled. My biggest concern is for customers who may simply pay an unexpected charge without questioning it. California has specific protections surrounding purchased gift certificates, including restrictions on expiration dates and service fees. I would encourage anyone using an older gift certificate anywhere to understand its original terms and ask questions before paying an unexpected additional fee. Karen and the massage itself were wonderful, and I genuinely wish that had been the entirety of my experience. Unfortunately, the way the gift certificate was handled at checkout, and having wording added to it afterward, left a disappointing impression.

When you fist walk in the place is very dim, making you want to be relaxed as soon as you walk in the door, it's nice and quiet and smells calming.
