Aside from the precarious journey getting there at the crack of dawn by bus(*), my 7:50am interview…read morewith Officer Timothy Carlson went smooth and straightforward. When you arrive, just sit down until someone comes out of the office and ask who's next. What really helped me find the place was someone's photo of Pillar #24, which helped to guide me to the escalators upstairs to the US Customs & Border Protection office. (*) The only bus that goes to the airport is the W-Line, which used to be the #20. The route has changed and the only stop at the airport is in front of the LEI stands. You catch the bus going back at the same place. Walk towards the airport. There's a sidewalk up to a point, then you have to carefully walk on a piece of land by a fence until you get to the roads that run by the Arrivals. Take a good look to your right to make sure there are no vehicles coming and walk across the road to the pedestrian walkway. Press the button and cross when the Walk signal lights up. The Pillar there is #29, so walk right to #24 and take the escalators up and go right. Whew.

The Global Entry process went very smoothly for us. Probably the only stressful part was getting to…read morethe Enrollment Center on time for the interview. Not knowing where it was, unsure of parking, and how hectic the airport can be made me anxious. This is how it went for us, including a timeline which turned out to be much less than what I read online: 1. Fill out application online. 2. After 1 day, we were notified we received condional approval and to schedule the in-person interview. They had available times as early as a couple days later. In order to get the times we wanted, our appointments were six days later. 3. On the day of the interview, ideally, you should go to the Terminal 2 Parking and park on the first floor, Ewa-side. Then you can just walk across to the main building. Once you get to the main building, take the elevator to Floor 2. Exit the elevator and head Ewa, walking between the airline check-in and roadway. After a 5-10 minute walk, depending on where you crossed over from the parking lot, you should see the sign below. 4. The interview only takes about 5 minutes. 5. About 2 hours after the interview, we received an email saying we received final approval. The whole process took only 8 days!!! It could have been even less if we took the first available interview time.

If you're naturally paranoid of cops like I am, these guys will freak you the hell out!…read more No one told me about how cops in Hawaii can use their own personal vehicles. Wow, that was a surprise. Normal looking family car one minute, then the next minute the guy lights me up. What the hell? You can't tell where the dang cops are until they're all up in your business. Not cool. And no one told me how the cops in the actual marked cruisers drive around with their blue lights on. Like, all the time. I guess some police departments do this as a safety policy. But I had never heard of that before visiting Hawaii. Every time a cop got behind me with his lights on I thought I was being pulled over, so I'd immediately start looking for somewhere to hide my stash. OK, so I didn't really have any stash to hide, but having a cop with his lights on behind me reminded me of back in the day when I did. So, see officer, no disrespect intended. I'm just writing this little review so mainlanders that come after me will know the score. I went to station with hopes of trading work patches but unfortunately got left outside the door with an incredibly rude "No, we dont do that". Ive been to numerous departments worldwide and all of them graciously take me in as a work professional. Believe me when I say, THE HONOLULU POLICE DEPARTMENT IS SO UNWELCOMING, and RUDE. It looks they rather work on they tan then help tourists and or fellow LEO with a request. Happy to I won't be visiting that or another station in Hawaii ever again because they'll be just the same. Tourists, if you need help ask the LOCALS not the police. Thank you for nothing Honolulu Poice Department.
