My students and I got to the following educational and fun activities: use a taser on a dummy, sat in the squad cars and SUV, talked on the radios in the cars, turned on the siren for all of Waipahu to hear, did a mock target practice in the dark with flashing lights, and played out scenarios of when to shoot with a gun with rubber bullets at a suspect who may or may not be going for their gun, and toured the rest of their facilities. The police officers there were very welcoming and informative. My students really enjoyed talking to them and participating in hands-on activities with the officers. This is definitely a great place to take students on a field trip.

There is lot's of street parking available and a small parking lot area in the back that can hold 8-10 cars. The place is like a giant garage with steel gate doors that slide down from the roof on both ends. If the weather is windy, you'll have a cool breeze pass through. If not, it can get a little warm. There's an area where you can have a live band or DJ set up some equipment. I would say it's more of a low-key environment, so you can dress casually. It's a great place to have a party or some other special occasion.

Some lady answered the phone and tried to help me out. I described my wallet and told her my phone number. She called me like 2 or 3 times to let me know if my wallet was in lost and found. I was very thankful to her for trying to find my wallet. Eventually, I found my wallet nearby my apartment. The point is that the lady tried very hard to find my wallet and I am very thankful for that.

My house got broken into, of course it really was my fault since I forgot to close the garage. But…read morestill I shouldn't have to be afraid in my house, so I called the police to make a report and I The 911 operator was awesome she calmed me down and sent someone right away. The police officer that came to my house was awesome. Not only did he listen to everything I said and wrote it down, he helped me pick up the stuff that had been scattered around and he even helped me stack the rubbermaid containers that had been taken down. Being a former military police officer I didn't expect them to take prints b/c of the type of containers, since they have a rough surface wouldn't print. But, he noticed one of my containers was smooth, he said I think I can get prints off of this one. Unfortunately he didn't have the stuff he needed to take the prints so he called for another officer to come out. He stood there with me and calmed my nerves quite a bit, told me that I wasn't stupid and it happens. Just from now on make sure I close the garage. He also talked to me a lot about where to go in Hawaii to have fun with my children since we haven't been on the island very long. After printing the container, he packed up and told me that if I needed anything not to hesitate to call them back and also if I noticed anything else was missing to just call and tell them. I really appreciated how much better I felt knowing that the two officers whose names I can't remember right now are patroling my neighborhood. They took the time to actually make me feel like they cared and gave me some great tips on things to look out for in the area as well as where I will want to live once my lease is up. This week I received in the mail a follow up letter from the Detective that has been assigned my case. I'm not expecting that they will find the jerks that took my stuff based on the prints they took of the container. However, as criminals always do, they'll screw up and I am confident that the officers in this area will catch the bastards!! A SPECIAL THANKS THE THE WAIANAE BRANCH OF THE HPD for making me feel welcome here and safer than I felt that awful morning, your job is often thankless so you should know that there are people out here who appreciate what you do everyday.

Kalihi-Palama Public Library is a gem of a community resource nestled in the hustle and bustle of…read morethe Kalihi-Palama area. Unlike some other public library branches I've never experienced a lack of parking. Of course , the main branch due to it's midtown location has no public parking but that's what urbanization brings. The library itself has all the typical modern resources one would expect in this age if technology which enables patrons to gain equal access despite its location and physical facilities which although over 60 years old provides all the amenities of a state-wide library system. While other really newly built and upgraded branches have the luxury of large spaces, carpeting, spread out study areas, and "cool" ambience, Kalihi-Palama's staffing "quality": friendly, approachable, and willing to go the extra mile. This staffing "quality" extends to the custodial services, security, and part-time student helpers who restock the books. The donated book sales shelves are bright and well-organized and the same is true of the free magazine display. The new book selection is second to none and the online interlibrary book reservation option for new and current selections is available via the in-house computers and home digital instruments. Beyond books, one can borrow a ukulele, and get personal computer, smart phone tutorial assistance by appointment. What's not to like? One couldn't ask for more! I
