We tried Honor Heights Park, which looked beautiful but was closed for some reason (all entrances blocked off). We decided to give Rotary Park a try and are glad we did. There are several picnic tables, a port-a-potty, a splash pad (wasn't operating since it's winter), and a playground. Our four-year-old and 17-month-old both had fun playing and found plenty to do. At no time have we ever had anything less than a stellar experience. The wranglers are all great. Friendly, talkative and eager to cater to the riders in any way. They even fulfill our request for The Kid to always have the same horse, which is a HUGE plus for her. We've been there so many times we know the names of most of the horses. The rides are just under an hour and are a really nice, restorative experience.

You are supposed to pay for parking, however, the parking pay machine is currently not working. There seems to be only one small nature trail at this park. You can camp here, tent or RV. There are some campsites in the pines and some in a wide open field. There are no playgrounds for children to play at. There is a marina with a place to get food. If you want more activities to do besides boating, you should probably skip this state park and head to Sequoyah State Park a little bit more north.

In winter there are several kinds of gulls, lots of pelicans and cormorants. There are fishing areas above and below the dam as well as areas down the river. Several boat ramps have been closed due to silt and them not wanting to spend money to maintain them. It is getting pretty grown up now, but you can still follow the roads to the side of the river to look for birds or fish. The closed boat ramps are secluded and there is poaching, be careful.
