Julie had several pre-baby sessions with us, providing valuable insight on the birthing process and what to expect. My wife and her also put a birth plan together and worked side by side during her labor to follow it as much as possible. During my wife's labor, Julie was very nurturing and continuously ensured my wife remained calm and relaxed as possible. The fact that made this experience for me was the reassurance Julie provided me immediately following the birth of or child, during some minor complications my wife had, that everything was going to be ok. She is very sweet and I have referred her to friends. She has over 8 years of experience and doula-ed over 50 births (and that was at the time I interviewed her!) so more now! It was so important to me to have a well-seasoned and experienced doula. Also, her rates are very reasonable. She held my hand during labor and my fondest memory was her feeding me muffins and juice minutes before I had a no-epidural natural hypno-birth with my child at the Irvine Hoag hospital suite. This class was very helpful in exposing us to a non-fear based birthing that's entirely different from what's typically broadcasted on television and movies. We learned how birth is physiological, how to be fully present in your birth, how to prepare well and take control come the day of your labor and delivery, how to work with your contractions, maternal instinctual movements and positions with your body during L/D, prepped my husband in how to be there for me during pregnancy/L/D, informed medical decisions, diet, anatomy, and so much more. A wealth of information, but also felt like such a safe and encouraging space. I believe this class helped prep us to have the birth space we wanted, which was also filled with peace, power, beauty, love, support, and knowledge. Also, Lea Burke at the Long Beach location was very sweet, encouraging, educated, worked with us when I got put on bedrest by the second class, and even maintained communication with us post class and post birth. Would recommend to others!
